Icebreaker Eclipse Hood - Men's

i really wanted to like this more. i like the styling and of course love that it's wool. since i wear almost exclusively wool -even underwear, i own lots of icebreaker and ibex apparel. generally, i prefer ibex wool -softer, less itch- and i prefer icebreaker style. also own quite a few smartwool socks too. not a fan of smartwool style, so, only own a couple to tops. back to eclipse hood. at 6'4" and 205lbs (40" chest, 36" sleeves), i purchased the large for longer sleeves. i found the sleeves too short -prefer 2" longer. the chest fits too big. i wish the arm hole was higher -thus smaller- for a more snug fit around the chest. one of the cuffs arrived with a seam split and so i exchanged it. also, don't care for the raised seams along the arms and sides of this hood. everything that bothers me about his hood is what ibex gets right in their indie hoodie. ibex's indie hoodie has flat seams, longer sleeves, softer wool, slimmer through the body and a higher arm hole. for a fit slim person, the ibex hood flatters more. so, what do i like about this hood? the look. i like the unique "pewter space dye" pattern/color. for comparison, the ibex hood is more sporty and this icebreaker one is more casual -better for social settings. i do wear it. i could love it more. it does leave me with some doubts about icebreaker's quality and compromise on construction -b/c of the choice of raised stitching. would i recommend this hood? probably if you find on sale -25%+ off. not at full price. finally, altrec made the purchase smooth and, importantly, allowed for a super easy exchange process. as always, cs rep was super patient, accommodating and courteous. you guys hire great people.

I'm a Smartwool person myself but I decided to give this to pa try. I'm usually a size M but ordered an L because that's the size Altrec had in stock, thinking was that a large would be just a little less tight fitting. The is cofortable tyhrough the arms and chest but the waist is far more...large than expected. I'll be returning this item. On another note the material is not as soft as other merino products but the construction is solid.
