Description

Do we need to go over the benefits of merino wool and the Men's Icebreaker Oasis Crewe again? Simply put, merino wool feels better, warms better, breaths better, and perhaps most importantly, smells better than most synthetics. Wool contains lanolin, a natural antibacterial agent which battles odor causing bacteria before it can get a toehold in your clothing. The slightly higher neck of the Oasis Crewe helps hold in precious heat, while raglan sleeves and underarm gussets make for easy, unrestricted movement. Flatlock stitching has also been moved forward on the side seams to eliminate underarm friction during activities like running, and there's a subtle embroidered logo on the left chest. Part of Icebreaker's Bodyfit Active Base Layer collection, you'll appreciate the body hugging fit and superb performance of the Oasis Crewe for men from Icebreaker.

Men's Icebreaker shirts
February 06, 2011

This is my fourth Icebreaker product . During the past two years I've purchased; 2 short sleeve shirts, a long sleeve hoodie, and now this body fit crew. The high quality, un wooly comfort and how well these shirts maintain their appearance after repeated washing justifies, for me, spending the $$. A note on sizing. This is the first Icebreaker shirt ordered based on the sizing chart. My other shirts are size large. My size of-5'9'' height ,40"chest, and 33" waist, just fits the medium size recommendation. The body fit is a definite body fit . Consider ordering the next size up if you are on the sizing cusp or you intend to bulk up.

The only shirt I wear during an Ultra
May 28, 2012

Icebreaker makes awesome products. I started wearing their stuff about a year ago. It is pricey, but if you shop around you can usually pick items up on sale. These are the only shirts that don't give me any chafing problems. They are extremely comfortable during long runs. You simply cannot go wrong with them. I also use them as a base-layer during cooler days when I need a light jacket. I have also started wearing these shirts as a base-layer for my work attire. They keep me comfortable in the office. The fit and sizing is spot on for me. I wear an extra large shirt and find their XL fits me perfect. cheers

stay warm and comfortable
December 16, 2011

This is the second time that I have purchased this product. The first time i bought it to wear for a 10 day hiking trip. It is very comfortable, no itching, no uncomfortable seams, and it did not smell even after the 10 day trip. I now use this product and the leggings for ski trips as well. Got the second set even though the first set is showing no signs of wear, just wanted a backup set. The 200 weight is pretty warm and I considered getting the 150 for my second set but the 200 is a good compromise and works well with layers.

My favorite base layer
March 15, 2013

I can wear this for a few days while hunting and walk away smelling like a rose. I also wear this as a baselayer when skiing and have gotten some complements during apres. My favorite part is the durability, I still have my first shirt from 3 years ago and it looks new. It doesn't pill and the seams never give. Understand this is a tight fit, it will hug your body. I normally wear a medium when it comes to Patagonia and Arteryx but wear a large for this item. I am 6 ft tall and 180, athletic build.

Great shirt, but pricey
July 03, 2011

I love this shirt! I'm 5-11/150lbs and the medium is loose enough for me to be comfortable wearing it as an outer layer when it is not too cold. It is a bit looser than other base layers (I like the looseness, but others may not). Note that the sleeves are quite long, and may be annoying for people with shorter arms. This shirt is very comfortable, though like many other reviewers have said, running it through the wash a couple times really helps with the scratchiness. After 2-3 washes, it feels soft as cotton. Warmth is only average but moisture wicking is great, as you would expect from wool. Overall a good buy, IF you're in need of a performance base layer. It's certainly expensive for a shirt, but worth it if you need it.

The feel is great, it is thin but densely woven. Pulling it out of the box I was amazed by the weight of the shirt. I am 5'8 165 lbs. The large fits me perfectly.

Excellent base layer
March 11, 2011

I own several Icebreaker products and find them to be excellent for outdoor activities. The wool packs small and regulates body temperature very well, without having the odor problems that synthetics can have. The Oasis 200 can be worn by itself for hiking in 50-60F degree weather, or layered for hiking in colder weather. Wool does a much better job of keeping me at just the right temperature when I'm doing anything aerobic compared to synthetics.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost

I use icebreaker clothing when I hunt and for recreation. I find the fit to perfict, I'm 5'-10" 155lbs with long arms. When I wear it hunting I use it for a base layer, under a wool wind/shear sweater. I think that they are pricey, but you can catch a sale which makes them worth it. The quality is hard to beat, with smartwool running close. Would like to see more colors. I will continue to buy icebreaker products and would reccommend them to others.

baselayer or alone
May 10, 2011

Love this shirt. Excellent value for someone who loves merino. I have some of the more expensive styles in the Icebreaker line as well, but find that the Oasis pretty much gives me the same functionality, although less styling than the GT series. I have about 10 icebreaker shirts in various styles both short and long sleeve. I use most of them for active wear in high endurance running or cycling. I used to use synthetics and completely abandoned them because of their short lifespan (too stinky). I can't remember the last time I wore something other than merino for training. As far as fit, this shirt is on the snug side. I like a next to skin fit to take advantage of the wool's 'tech' properties. In general, I have not found better fitting clothing for active wear than in Icebreaker. I'm 5'9" and 150lbs and usually go with medium, but for the Oasis crew, a size L gives me a little more room and still fits next to the skin. Sleeves and torso will run a little long in Icebreakers (good for my body measurements). (Large in the GT series is slightly too big for me.) Pay attention to fit description in Icebreaker, as some styles are meant to be more form fitting. As for weather conditions: For cycling at about 15-20mph for 2 hours, this shirt alone works well for me in the 45 to 75 degree temperature range. Any colder and I put another layer on top. Any warmer and I go with short sleeve. Color stays amazingly vivid on wool (wash after wash) so the brighter colors work great for visibility. I wash these shirts in a machine at warm/cold with liquid woolite and they come out smelling great. Always hang dry unless you want to shrink it. I can get 2-3 uses in-between by just rinsing with water. Icebreakers are very durable at the 200 weight (150 is a little more prone to wear and tear).

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value

icebreaker 200 weight
January 15, 2011

I was debating between another IBex woolie long sleeve baselayer, vs this one. I have experience with ibex, but never had an icebreaker baselayer (although I have an icebreaker 320 weight zip top which is great, b/c it's so warm and not itchy). I gave this a try b/c when comparing similar weight products from Ibex and Icebreaker, it is consistently icebreaker that makes their clothing softer on the skin. This 200 weight fabric feels more like a dri-fit shirt than wool. The Ibex, on the other hand, is more scratchy, but does improve with washing even once. But even after washing it, the ibex still is a coarser material. The one thing that other people might consider is that nearly all the Ibex clothes are made in the USA (ironically, the one ibex baselayer i was describing above was not). Whereas ICebreakers are all made in China from New Zealand sourced wool. After reading icebreaker's website, it seems that at least their workers are treated well. So in the end I chose this product based on comfort, in spite of my desire to be patriotic. Hope this helps!

Pros: Build quality, very fine wool

Best Base Layer
February 08, 2011

Like every other Icebreaker piece I have purchased, it is outstanding. A great base layer during this colder-than-normal winter we're having here in Ohio. I've worn it under a single outer layer of spun polypro and it's been more than warm enough in temps down in the teens, even in brisk winds. It insulates well even when I've worked up a good sweat. And it's absolutely true what they say about merino wool - it simply does not carry the odors I've found in synthetic base layers. I'm 5-10 and 175 with longer than average arms, and the XL fits me perfectly in both the body and sleeve. I'm absolutely hooked on merino wool and especially Icebreaker. Top quality in every way.

Nice base layer
April 02, 2012

This shirt is a real nice base layer. It fit's a little tight. I got an XL and I normally wear L shirts, but the XL fit pretty tight. I don't mind though as it's supposed to fit under a bunch of other stuff so the tight fit is better for layering while backpacking and hiking. It's not uncomfortable tight tho, just a very athletic fit.

Pros: Performance, Ease of use

Love Icebreaker
October 09, 2011

I bought this shirt for my dad because he is often cold and he likes wool but often wears a cotton t-shirt underneath to keep the wool clean and because of itch. (Two problems you don't have with icebreaker! It's very soft and easily washed) I choose this shirt because I have many icebreaker shirts myself and particularly love the "bodyfit200" line both for wearing as a baselayer or for wearing on it's own. He's very happy as well! He normally wears a large in "regular" clothes but he found this large a bit too tight in the arms/shoulders. The extra large did fit well so maybe think about going a size up depending on how fitted you want the shirt.

Using this as a base layer for running and it's very comfortable. I got a medium and at 5"10 155 it fits well - not too tight but not hanging. Seems to be a quality product as well.
