Great coat. Runs Large ...
December 19, 2011

I bought this jacket for my wife. She's usually somewhere between a US size 2 and a US size 4. She's got a number of other Icebreaker items, all in size Small. So logically I ordered a small. I ended up returning it, and swapping for an X Small. At 5'4'' and about 125 lbs, the small version swamped her. The sleeves were about 2-3 inches too long, there was an extra 6-9 inches excess around the waist. Read the Icebreaker sizing guide in detail and measure carefully before selecting size. If you get it wrong, then you'll have a lot of spare material and 'bat-wings'. Otherwise, my wife loves the X Small. She likes the way it hangs and fits her. It's a tailored cut, seems to keep the wind and rain out, but doubtful it's anything than water resistant. Altrec were great about organizing the return. Just waiting for the refund now on the Small ...

Classy Look
December 14, 2011

I bought this jacket (black) in summer. It's only recently that I have been wearing it almost everyday. It's great versatile jacket—whether with jeans or a classy woolen skirt, I look very smart. Whenever I wear it, I get a lot of great comments from friends and colleagues. I'm 5 ft 6 inches and weighs about 128-132 pounds and I bought a medium. At first, I thought it's too big but that's when I tried it on in summer with only a T-shirt. Now the fit is really good and I can wear 2-3 layers beneath. I'm comfortable usually with an Icebreaker 200 and my awesome Icebreaker Black Powder 380. To eliminate the wind chill, I'd wear another layer or drape a shawl around. And it goes really well with my icebreaker woolen scarf. A great investment and a must if you're looking for a versatile medium-length jacket that looks classy, last you several winters, and still looks good.

Great jacket, fits like a tent
May 31, 2011

I had read that this jacket runs a little small, and I usually sit between a small and a medium, but I am often FIRMLY in the medium camp with Icebreaker. However, I looked like I was wearing a tent - it was gigantic on me. But still a totally beautiful coat.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever

Great Jacket!
April 18, 2011

So far, I love my jacket. I just recently purchased it so have not tried it out in colder weather. I am not sure how warm it will be in the winter. But for early spring in the Rockies, it is working great. And I love the look. The only negative so far is that the zipper is sometimes difficult to use, you need to get everything lined up exactly.

Not as great the second time around
March 23, 2011

Am a huge FAN of icebreaker and own a lot of their other pieces. Already own this Mayfair icebreaker coat in Black and have worn it through most of the winter. When I saw the grey version available on sale, decided I would love the 2nd color. Am still contemplating whether or not to keep this 2nd one. Arrived very wrinkled due to shipping packaging (folded over within the shipping packet) so am leaving it to hang for awhile and "uncrinkle". Nevertheless, I will agree with the "bat-wing" comment made by another reviewer regarding the arm cut to this one, perhaps exagerated more in the lighter color vs. the black. Ordered this one in the same size M in which I own the black one, but this version seems to overall have too much fabric in the wrong places when it should be more fitted. Perhaps I will try the size S on exchange first but will admit to modest disappointment with my second version of this terrific coat.

Pros: Build quality, Great value
Cons: Bad design

sad
March 18, 2011

I was really expecting to love this coat. Sadly, the fit is bizarre. It looks nice from the front, but as another reviewer noted, it is weird under the arms. When you raise your arms --- flying squirrel. When you turn around, the real problem --- hunch back. The quality of the coat seems solid, but the fit is truly bizarre. For the record, I'm a true medium.

not the same
March 16, 2011

I bought the mayfair in java several years ago. I LOVED the coat's fit and surprising warmth. I always received compliments on it. So...I thought I might get another in a different color. I tried both a large (too loose on top, fit great on bottom) and then a medium (too tight around chest, o.k. on bottom). The new mayfair has shoulder pads, which contributed to the poor fit up top. This coat must be worn fitted; it just looks wrong if it is even a little loose. Material is thicker and nicer in the newer version but the poor fit for my build trumps all. I am 5'10 and 160 pounds. Not much chest but broad shoulders. The coat fits my long arms great! And the length for someone tall with a long torso is great as well. Just too tight around the top. If you have the right build, this is a terrific coat. I'd spend the money without a shrug if this coat fit like the last version.

Wonderful classy coat.

This coat not only looks great, it feels wonderful and is warm, too. A few years ago I'd only heard people talking about how great Icebreaker stuff is...Finally I got some Icebreaker stuff and all of their stuff is indeed totally awesome. This coat is no exception, it is wonderful.

This is the perfect coat and i LOVE wearing this in our cold chicago winters. i bought a size S, i'm 5'3, 125 lbs, and it fits great. super lightweight and yet very warm. very fashionable, slight A-line... i put it on and i feel put together but most importantly I am protected against the elements.

This is my third winter using this coat and it still looks good as new. These are short Texas winters, and I can tell it'll hold up for years to come and will always be stylish. I still frequently get complements on it. I'm 5'7", 35" bust, with fairly long legs; I take a medium in Icebreaker tops and dresses (I'm obsessed) and this fits TTS with room for moderate layering underneath. It's perfect 3-season coat for Texas and it packs fairly compactly for travel, but when the temp dips below the upper 30s or there's a hard, cold wind, I wear something warmer. The only construction flaw I've encountered (which Icebreaker has hopefully fixed by now) is that the narrow plastic coating along the fabric holding in the zipper began almost immediately to peel and flake near the teeth. This doesn't impact the warmth or appearance at all since the storm flap buttons over the zipper, but it did surprise me.

I regret to inform you...
November 22, 2010

I had very high hopes for this coat, but feel the Mayfair's overall design did not quite come through. I am a sz small (5'8" 120- 34in) in Icebreaker shirts, but bought a medium to assure being able to wear (if needed) layers of clothing under this coat. It fit me fine across the shoulders and in the arms (not too tight upon bending at the elbow), but was weirdly large elsewhere, and seemed very "A line." The underarm cut is too low and I felt like I had a slightly webbed look when my arms were outstretched. The padded shoulders also seemed conspicuous. I think if I downsized to a small it COULD work, but at full price- I'd be concerned about losing shoulder/arm fit, so it's being returned. Other than this- the great quality, durability, and manufacturing evident in all aspects, as is typical of Icebreaker garments. I really wish it had worked out.
