Java on the trail
March 11, 2011
Love this product. I'm out on the trail with my Scout troop for 2 to 3 days at a time. This product stores easily in my pack with fuel bottles. I'm 6' tall and just over 200 lbs. I always pack extra equipment just incase one of my scouts forgot somehting. Because of that I've never had room for coffee before now. I love my coffee in the morning and to have it on the trail with me is a new life saver in my book. I love the themal mug. Can make a good hot cup of coffee and carry it on the trail with no problem.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueJetboil Flash/Java

The nailed it with the name. It boils fast! I've used while snowshoe hiking in Western New York and worked flawless in the cold weather. It was nice to have some fresh pressed coffee on the trail. The insulated mug/pot is a very, nice feature. I also used it for mixing up a batch of ramen. With the 100gm fuel canister everything packs up in the mug/pot.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useWell designed/sturdy and lightweight stove

Love my new Jetboil! It's both an earthquake emergency kit + camping stove. Boils water in mins! In a crisis, I could reconstitute meals from R.E.I./Army Surplus. I don't think I'll be interested in the complete cooking kit. Heats water quickly & makes enough for two cups of coffee, but you then have to boil xtra water for the oatmeal. :( It's compact/travels well & will be something I'm excited to use again when backpacking! The new dial on the the Jetboil flash makes it really easy to control the heat. Can't comment on how long the fuel lasts, I'll have to experiment w/ that on a longer trip!

Great stove. I mostly just want meals like oatmeal and coffee in the am and coffee and meals I can pour hot water into at night. this is the perfect stove if you are not a trail gourmet. So glad I got it.
Almost Perfect!

I bought the JetBoil Flash Java kit. Great product. Very compact for what you get. It is very sturdy and well built. It included the pot, neopreen cozy, burner, stand for fuel, coffee press, coffee, and lid. It does boil water (2c) in about 2 minutes in my house at about 800ft and 68F. The coffee press works perfectly. The coffee is better than my home coffee maker. It is hotter and more rich in flavor. In fact, it so good I am on my 3 cup in an hour and would explain the length of this review. I got it in blue. I wanted carbon, but they were out of it. I was worried that the blue would be too bright (neon), but it is darker than expected and looks good. My only wishes would be for it to be lighter, but by no means is it heavy. And, for it to be a bit shorter from the bottom of the fuel cell to the bottom of the pot. If you are "on the fence" about purchasing the jet boil - buy it - would will not be disappointed. Make sure you get the Java kit over the regular flash. It is the same price and you get the $20 coffee press and some coffee.
Is there anything better?

The Jetboil Flash is light weight, durable, and compact. Boils water in about 2 minutes just like they claim. The 1L cup that it comes with is plenty big.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useFits the Bill!

I bought the Jetboil Flash Java kit for motorcycle camping so the compact size was a big plus. I liked that it is only one piece for stove, pot, fuel and the coffe press. The unit seems durable and fast to set up. I did not want a stove that used liquid fuels and I have found the fuel sold at many stores.
Initial problem fixed promptly by Jetboil

Purchased this item based on glowing reviews in Backpacker magazine. Took it backpacking and it would produce only a very low flame - it took about 12 minutes to boil a pot of water. When I got back from my trip I contacted Jetboil customer service, sent the burner unit in to them for warranty repair and they fixed and returned it very promptly. The Jetboil representative (Lisa Eaton) was very friendly and responsive to get my problem fixed immediately. When I received the stove back from Jetboil it fired right up. Despite the initial problem, I'm overall very pleased with this stove kit. It's very convenient to have the stove, base, and fuel can all fit in the pot for storage. The fold-out base is very stable and while not ultralite, the entire system has a very reasonable weight.
