Jetboil Personal Cooking System

Redefining outdoor cooking with a super heat efficient, integrated configuration, the Jetboil® Personal Cooking System (PCS) offers a simple, fast, efficient solution to cooking in the outdoors. Consider it a travel mug and campstove melded into one. The set-up goes like this: pull it out of your backpack (it stores as one unit inside the cooking cup), attach the fuel canister to the burner, snap the burner to the cooking cup, and press the piezo igniter for quick lighting. It's that simple. And it's fast too. The boil time for two cups of water is just two minutes. This translates to less fuel consumption, meaning less weight carried in the pack. The Jetboil® PCS relies on a series of innovative features to produce such fast boil times. First, the burner is housed in a wind-protective shroud. Next, snugly attached immediately above, the FluxRing™ heat exchanger and cooking cup assembly gathers nearly 80% of the available heat, doubling the heat efficiency of standard backpack stoves. Additionally, the neoprene cozy sleeve holds in the heat around the cooking cup, giving it another nudge over the competition. The cooking cup works just like a travel mug. The snap-on lid offers a drink-through spout and drip-free pouring while the neoprene cozy eliminates the need for metal pot grabbers and is comfortable to hold while eating. The Jetboil® PCS stormed onto the camping gear scene in 2004 when Backpacker magazine pinned one of their prestigious Editor's Choice Awards on it. They recognized the innovation and performance found in this camping stove, just like the continuously growing group of fans who rave about it. The cooking cup that comes standard with the Jetboil® Personal Cooking System works best for feeding 1-2 people. Consider purchasing a Jetboil® Companion Cup for each additional person or for group situations consider converting your stove with the purchase of a Jetboil® 1.5 Liter Cooking Pot and Jetboil® Pot Support and Stability Kit.

Boils Water
It does what it claims, and it does that very well. It boils water. Which, in the case of backpacking means, it cooks your meals. Its a great tool and Ive thoroughly enjoyed using it on the trail. Boils water in an instant and allows for quick and easy coffee and tea making! (I love the coffee press that is available for this) Only downside is its a little low on the versatility scale for those who like to have back-country pancakes and things of that sort. But overall, a GREAT product.

AMZING PACK-ABILTY
This stove is amazing, and I love how everything fits into the JB, and the accessories are excellent design... There only flaw is the ignition system seems to break. It has gone out twice on my buddy but I have not had any issues yet....

Fuctionality, and Reliability
I first got a JetBoil 4 years ago, and I was skeptical, however after repeated use and attempts to exclude it from my packing list for trips, it always found a place. It was hard replacing the whisperlite... but for ultralight trips where ounces matter and fuel efficiency is paramount, the JetBoil has its place. In cold weather, the canister doesn't work exceptionally well, but there are a few tricks one can employ to get it to be more efficient. I also recommend buying the base stabilizer with it so you don't spill your hard earned Ramen. Overall I like the reliability and functionality. Practical short trekking stove
Really fast boiling water. I agree with Keoni, the stove is intended for dehydrated foods mainly. I tested the stove on the AT for 5 days and it worked flawlessly. The only issue I encountered was burning rice because it heats so fast. Previously Prepared food easily burns if heated other than low heat and you need to stir continuely. "Great for coffee and hot chocolate.

Great; some limitations
This stove works great for heating water, so stick to dehydrated food matter. Experimented last summer with its cook-ability with mostly fresh food. You burn lots of fuel!!! The Jetboil is for fast and light trips and for that coffee fix on backcountry ski outings.Backcountry gourmets should stick to the MSR whisperlite or Whisperlite Intl. I highly recommend Jetboil add ons like: base support and expresso maker. One last tip- take care not to break the piezo igniter as they break easily (backup lighter should be standard issue)

A great advance in backcountry cooking.
I used to use a Whisperlite and pots/pans when backcountry camping. Not only was it bulkier and heavier, the heat transfer was less than optimal. With JetBoil and a couple of freeze-dried meals, you lessen the bulk and weight, and save time cooking. It's fun to use and quick enough so that you can boil water for coffee, then boil some more for oatmeal before your coffee is cool enough to drink. My only complaint is that the first unit I got had a bad igniter that broke. The second one worked perfectly in the backcountry. No more dishpan hands. (Another benefit to using freeze-dried is the lack of dishes to wash after meals.)

Water boiling fast
This is the best stove on the market for boiling water(and hot water is all you need for backpacking food anyway). It is the fastest and very compact. A must buy for any backpacker.

Boils water really fast - Excellent
It's expensive, but worth the price tag. It's really convenient to have it around when camping or during road trips. Once you use it, you'll never want to travel without it.

convenient and easy
I used the jet boil GC for 4 days @ Mt Whitney with two teenage kids and it was easy to use, clean and carry. Downside was the piezo broke midway through the hike ---not to worry though, just use a lighter and keep cooking! Seems to be a weak component. Something to consider is that aside from the lack of the (convenience) of auto-ignition, the unit as a whole is worth carrying.

Great function
The Jetboil system works great. Super fast to bring 1-4 cups to a full boil. I love how compact the whole system is. However on our first outing with this unit, the piezo electric ignitor broke off. Thus requiring matches for the remainder of the week. This is the Achilles heel of this unit. I 'll be looking for a replacement burner unit or at the least, a new ignitor assembly, that is if they make them.
