These glasses did not fit very well. They immediately slid off my face. Once I adjusted the ear pieces, they sat a little crooked on my nose and there was too much space at the top of the frame that would allow light in. The side pieces also seemed flimsy. The lenses, however, seemed to be very good quality.

Incredible sunglasses!
July 29, 2011

I have been searching for a dark pair of sunglasses for the last few months. I looked long and hard through many different brands, but ultimately came to the conclusion that Julbo is the only company that takes Category 4 glasses seriously. I initially tried on the Julbo Explorers, but with a wide head, they did not fit. The Micropores have a much more flexible temple piece allowing for a better fit for wider heads. The ends of the temple pieces are extremely flexible allowing you to customize them to your desired fit and can lock the sunglasses onto your head well. If you are used to having peripheral vision while wearing sunglasses, these will take a while to get used to, but after a few days of use the side shields will disappear. The side shields block almost all peripheral light although you will notice a few small points of light if you look to the side (not to the point of being distracting or annoying). I was surprised that these have a slight brown tint to them, as I do not recall seeing any details about a tint. It makes greens stand out very well and seems to help in harsh sunlight. As with the side shields it may seem odd at first, but then you no longer notice it. A colleague has a 30-year-old pair of Julbo glacier glasses, which made me confident that the mineral lenses will stand the abuse that I will put them through in the coming years (hopefully decades). I just got back from hiking above timberline in New Mexico in July and I am completely hooked on these sunglasses.

These sunglasses looked great on the website. They are much better than I expected. Very much exceed my expectations. They will be a part of my mandatory gear for any outings, expecially on bright and windy days.

Micropore Arc 4+
February 16, 2011

I used these in Colorado in bright sun and found them to be very adequate. They are constructed well and have enough adjustablility in the nose piece to fit any nose on the planet. I recommend going to an optical shop to have them adjust both sides of the nose piece for width as well as angle. While you are there ask them to adjust the temple hinges to your liking via the screw in the hinge. I liked the light blockage on the sides and bottom. There is some light allowed from the top but no more than other glasses of this genre. It can be minimized by adjusting the nose pieces for a slightly higher position on the nose, i.e. further up the bridge of your nose. I would highly recommend this product for quality and price.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, comfortable, highly adjustable

Performs as expected
December 30, 2010

I have only been out snowshoeing 4x with the X8's and I have yet had a super sunny day to fully test them. So far there is no signs of any deterioration. I am hopeful that with careful treatment and using the case that came with them will make for an extended lifetime. I do not use them as everyday sunglasses. I have a medium to large cranium and they fit perfectly and do what they should - reduce the light massively. The bendable frames are great. I am taking them into BWCA in February and will put them to the test there. I cant give excellent overall ratings only because the durability is as yet unknown. (and because my girlfriend says I look like a creepy villain from Raiders of the lost ark ha-ha)

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

Best Investment Ever
November 12, 2010

I have tried several cat.4 glasses before, and nothing compares to my new Alti Arc from Julbo. I like the idea of flexible frame at the ear area which holds it securely. The leather is nice touch and yet functional.

Perfect for a Winter Outdoors
November 05, 2010

I love my outdoor Winter activities. Skiing/ice fishing/snowshoeing etc... These sunglasses are ideal for these type of sports. No peripheral light, no squinting and no headaches. The lenses are high quality and the flexible temple arms and adjustable ear hooks are great for someone like me (large cranium). They are also well vented so no fogged lenses. They are a little heavy at first, but not hard to get used to.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, great fit

Great product!

These sun glasses are just what I was looking for. I will be wearing them on my attempt to summit Mt. Ranier this summer.

The best
June 04, 2010

This brand is not really well known about the U.S.......but they are the best! Hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, sailing--you just can't beat 'em. Get the one's with the least amount of light penetration and side shields. Hunt down a US dealer to try 'em. Great!

Great Sun Protection
December 23, 2009

These Glasses have great protection from UV rays and have nice leather side shields that help protect your peripheral vision. They come with a nice fitted case and have excellent adjustability.

versatile, comfortable sun protection
October 27, 2009

These glasses fit so well I forgot they were on. Super protection from the brightest glare. I wore them on a recent climb to the top of Mt. St. Helens, and they were as good on the boulder field as the glacier. Clarity is awesome.

Great lenses big frame
September 03, 2009

I fly RC in a huge field and as far as the sun goes, these lenses block it. They seem to filter blue, so greens and yellows look real bright. The frames are big however and driving with them takes some getting used to, but for me they are perfect.

sweet hiking specs
July 20, 2009

great glasses good uv protection also nice fitting

I would recomond to a friend. High quality.
July 10, 2009

The glasses are very comfortable and dark. Exceptional clarity and stay on well after getting adjusted. Good for day to day in high light conditions but shadows are to dark to see into well. These glasses are for high light conditions. In the summer in Texas, I am using them most days. Fashion wise, they are old school. You either love the style or hate it. They are a bit heavy because they are glass and take time to fit correctly.

Performance Matches the Promises
May 16, 2009

After extensive research in preparation for my first Mt. Rainier attempt, I settled on the Micropore X8 glasses. Though the trip is still a few months away, they lived up to the reviews the moment I took them out of the case, put them on my face and took in the outside world. Excellent reduction of brightness with equally excellent retention of detail and clarity.

Julbo Sunglasses for all Seasons
April 10, 2009

I own three pairs of Julbo sunglasses (various models and styles)and use them year round. I purchased the Micropore Sunglasses (w/ Alti Arc X8 Lenses/ Grey) because I wanted a pair of metal frame glasses with moldable temples. I use them for skiing and snowshoeing in the winter and cycling and kayaking in the summer. This pair of Julbos has great lenses, sturdy construction and OK design. I am not a winter mountaineer so I dropped the side shields.

Great Sunglases
April 09, 2009

I use these skiing during spring conditions -- they are great for the bright sunlight and occas shade. They seem to be well made (this is my first pair) and are very comfortable. I like the endless warranty!

Great Sunglasses

I have a pair of this sunglasses, and I like this glass very much. It can protect my eyes when there is strong sunshine, wind and sand. I think above is its value. Really a nice product!

Good reason for long flex temples
March 18, 2009

I've had 3 pair of these over about 6 years. Julbos have an endless warranty, and they honor it. I've purchased from 3 different dealers and if I needed replacement parts they were responsive and hassle-free. The long flexible temples are meant to wrap completely around the top, back, and bottoms of your ears. Once you form-fit them properly, they are so snug and tight that you'll forget you have them on until you're sitting in your tent at night and wonder, "Why in the hell is it so dark in here?" There is soft, rubbery wrap around the flex part that doesn't pinch behind the ears if you have tight winter headgear on. Honestly, once you get these glasses properly fit, they will function like they are designed to. I agree with the other reviewers, great lenses, the side shields are well vented to prevent fogging yet keep out blowing snow.

Perfect shades
February 20, 2009

I bought mine two weeks ago, the first impressions are very positive - they work perfectly on the slope, can be used instead of skiing goggles and are also suitable for everyday 'downtown' situations. The discoloration is not very intense. However, one thing I have to resolve is prescription inserts - I understand Julbo does not support them for this particular model, I have to go visit my optician to figure a way around it.

Great product but didn't work for me!
November 16, 2008

The lenses are amazing! Unfortunately the glasses are very large and very heavy, when I lean forward their weight makes them fall off of my face.

Staved off 3 days of bright conditions/no resulting headaches
October 08, 2008

The Micropore Sunglasses (w/ Alti Arc X8 Lenses) are perfect for bright/mountaineering adventures. Ive successfully used them on Mt. Rainer. The protection was good enough to stave off 3 days of bright conditions with no resulting headaches. Cant beat them for the price/protection!

Great lenses, temples too long
August 23, 2008

The oval (not round) lenses are great. Minimal coloration: (some mountain glasses give an orange hue, or simply flatten all colors-dark grey.) They are also not as "dark" as you might fear. If the sun is up, you can drive with them. The size is similar to a medium width pilot's sunglass; the square-ish style like Randolph or American Optical. This lens size fits me fine. My issue is the temple length; much too long in the metal stem, which makes the flexwire end even longer. The metal temple stems are real thin and flat. Great to save weight, but give a cheap feeling because they flex so much. The bridge gizmo is sort of cheesy, but isn't the ugly "big zit" attention getter I thought it might be. The rubber nose bridge grips great, but will be a wear replacement item. When I wear sunglasses, I want to protect my eyes. These do that very well, without looking like welding goggles. They let a good amount of light through, but the mirror coating (inner and outer) plus the medium tint do an excellent job. I have many other sunglasses; Cebe Cecchinel, Randolph, Serengeti, Ray Ban, Persol, Bolle. The Micropores score very high (except for the temples.) I'd buy them again, or recommend them for medium-large faces, and people with ears at the back of their head! ;)

Eye Protection Accomplished...Other Adjustments Would Be Nice
April 20, 2008

These Julbo glacier glasses provide excellent protection against harmful sunrays. To make a good product great I would recommend spending a little more time in redesigning the protective case as it is ill-suited for quick and secure closing, storing, and opening. I would recommend redesigning the leather protective coverings as they permit lots of sunlight to come coursing through the top part and past the wearer's brow. Julbro might have the next size up for guys who have eyes and cheekbones that are tightly confined to the present eyeglass construction parametres. All in all, still worht the price, that is, if you value your eyesight.

Perfect glasses
April 10, 2008

Wasn't too sure about these when I first got them, but after a lot of use they are perfect. At the beach, deep sea fishing, hiking, anything and everything. They do say that they should NOT be used for driving, and I agree, but without the side shields, and during a bright mid afternoon, they work great. You will notice the darkness later in the evening. That just means I can't wear them as much as I'd like to. But for everything else I do, they are the perfect glasses, look super cool, and the shields work wonders when your out long and don't want things sneaking around the sides. Great shades. On a side note, these are the first pair of glasses I've ever bought and was a firm believer in not using them, so these have definitely won me over.

Really Nice Glasses
February 27, 2008

These fit perfect with a bit of adjusting , they keep the wind and sun out. Would by them again if i ever lost them. 3 weeks now and no complaints at all. Great glasses

great glasses
July 14, 2007

great glasses! they last about a year of daily wear at work. The weak link is the soft nose pieces that wear through. I work in the sun often on concrete slabs which reflect a lot of sunlight.

you get what you want, when you want it. You can't
February 14, 2005

They have a huge selection and they ship on time. But more amazing: if you have questions they respond quickly.
