Katadyn Mini
July 12, 2011
Havn't used it yet, but plan to on a Zion and bryce canyon trip in Aug. Was impressed with the size.Needed to be small enough to fit in my camelback mule. We mostly hike 14-20 mile round trips and have run out of water before. This looks to be ideal for a mountain steam fillup. I'll give a full review when we return!!!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great valueMarch 07, 2011
the katadyn mini ceramic water filter is a great choice for those traveling solo or with a sense to weight. i recently used it on a trek and it lived up to the katadyn reputation. small, functional and ease of use was definitely the name of the game.

Although a little slower than the microfilter alternatives, this is a high quality water filter. For the additional weight and size reduction, the slightly slower flow due to the filter being ceramic is worth it in my opinion. In the event that it becomes clogged, the ceramic is also much easier to clean in the backcountry than a microfilter and also lasts much longer. In general the filter feels very well built. My only complaint (hence the 4 stars) is that the inlet tube is very hard to fit back into the bottom of the unit once you are done using it. Overall, though, a great filter for 1 or 2 person use.
Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, weight/size, Cons: somewhat slow
