If you don't want the look of a sport sandal but you crave the traction and improved support, slip into Keen's elegantly detailed San Mateo Sandal this summer. The leather lining and embossed henna-inspired detailing add a refined touch, but the ergonomically shaped metatomical footbed on the San Mateo Sandal is perfect for those summer trips when you find yourself on your feet for hours at a time. Beneath the footbed is a cushioned compression molded EVA midsole that minimizes the shocks of repeated foot strike and a non-marking carbon rubber sole that's perfect for varied walking surfaces. Fit Tip: Sandal will fit to size. I typically wear a 7.5 in other brands and in this Keen sandal I also wear a 7.5 perfectly. Ample room in the toe box area, but width is standard.

I ordered these sandals because I injured my left foot and lost my big toenail. (Not attractive while it is growing back!) These sandals are perfect. Comfortable as my flip-flops, but hide the "ugly" toe!

After reading the reviews, I ordered 1/2 size smaller than my normal size, and the fit was great. I purchased the sandals for a vacation; and from the first wearing, the sandals were comfortable and did not need any breaking-in period.

These are very comfortable and run true to size with plenty of toe room, in my opinion. The only thing that bothered me is that the other side of the sandal is kinda awkward looking (you can find other views elsewhere) but you can't beat Altrec's pricing, customer service, and FAST shipping... For that I give an A+

I just took my new San Mateo sandals on vacation, and did a lot of walking. I love my Keens and have several, but this was the first pair of leather sandals with a leather footbed. I really loved walking in them, and they are even more comfortable than my Newports, which I thought would be impossible. I am now encouraging my husband to order a pair of men's leather Keens, he already loves his Keen sandals and hiking boots.

I love these sandals. They're my second pair. I bought the first pair last year in the same color, but who cares when the shoes are this good. Last year, I had a flat tire. I was wearing these sandals and walked about three miles in gravel to get to a phone. My feet were perfectly happy (even if I wasn't). Great shoes!

I had 3, now 5 pairs of Keen sandals and love them. I have a hard time finding sandals for my situation. I had an accident as a teen with a lawnmower (it' not as bad as it sounds, I'm just self conscious) and like to hide my "partial" big toe and a friend had a pair and I said those were designed for me!! I can wear flip flops and feel very comfortable in them too. Love them on sale!!!

This is a great slip-on, especially if you need a closed toe for work, but it's a lot clunkier than it looks in the photo. Still, I kept it. Too comfy not to.

I love Keens. I really do. I own five pair, but of all of them, the San Mateo's are the only pair that have given me a blister.
I have an average sized 7 1/2 foot. Not wide. I put my San Mateos on yesterday for the first time and immediately I got a blister on the top part of my foot where the leather touches.
These shoes are super cute, and the soles are very comfortable, like all Keens, but the leather, in my opinion is just a little too tight. I am hoping to break them in and/or buy some leather conditioner and hoping that will loosen them up a little bit.
I also own the Isabella slides, which are super cute, but a little too loose, and the Calistoga slides, which in my opinion, are the perfect pair of Keen slides.
I haven't given up on my San Mateos. I know I will get a lot of use out of them once I fix this problem.

I tend to be between sizes and it depends on the shoe. I was told by a friend to go with the larger size for Keens because they run small.... but I found this to be false. I should have stuck to the smaller size. And for my taste, they are a hair too wide for a medium width shoe.

of course these are comfortable -- keens have great soles -- but the insides of the uppers are rough, which, without socks, is uncomfortable

I have two other pairs of Keen shoes. I live in clogs and sandals, both ran large, bought a 1/2 size below what I normally do and they fit great. The Mateo Sandal must be true to size as they were too small when I ordered like I normally do with Keen.
