Not for Hiking
August 10, 2011
I had to get a warmer bag for my last trip and got one of these based on price, kind of ignoring the 4.5 lbs weight listed. This bag is too big to take hiking. It's heavy, but I thought that wasn't a killer. But it does not compress a lot and ends up taking up a lot of room in your bag. I had to buy a separate compression bag just to shrink it down. There went the savings. It is very warm and comfortable. I'm 6'0", and found that the bag could have been maybe an inch longer. But, I had a pillow in the bag with me. Without the pillow the bag fit fine. In the end, I guess it depends on what you're doing. If you're driving to a spot and camping in the woods, this is a pretty good bag, especially for the price. If you intend on carrying it on your back for more than a couple of miles, pay the extra money and get something smaller.

I have so far just used the bag once. I was sleeping on an poorly insulated air mattress and it was in the hi 30's F outside. I was on the cool side of comfortable. A better insulated mattress would have helped but I do not consider this a true 0 degree bag. It seems to be well made. I'm 6 02 and bought the long size and it had plenty of room for me. Should fit someone taller then me too.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: not a true 0 deg bagDid you recently buy the Kelty Cosmic 0 Degree Sleeping Bag? Write a review.
Working so far

Comfortable bag. I haven't taken it out in super-cold temperatures yet, but the first time I climbed halfway in to test it I had to get back out because it was too warm. It's a little bulky, but I expected that. Right now, I'm using it while I car camp at a work gig, so I don't care, but if I was going to try to actually take it camping, I would probably buy a compression sack. The stuff sack included is great as a storage bag, but does nothing to try to shrink the pack volume down. So far, it is exactly as described. A little big, no fancy features like a storage pocket, but warm and not too expensive. I'm excited to see how it holds up over time and in colder weather.
