What I wanted the Redwing to be
August 01, 2013
I have been using the Kelty Redwing for several generations, and this Flyway is what I really wanted. Not only the addition of a laptop sleeve but the compartment on the bottom to separate gear storage is a huge addition for me. There is a separator between these two main compartments that is not removable, but it billows down (or up) so that you can fill the entire bag from the top if you like. The redesigned zipper path (not sure what to call this) allows you to remove items from the top (and the laptop for security at airports) easily without opening the bag or digging through your stuff. Downsides: They skimped a bit on the waist belt to make it lighter and more compact for travel, it is no longer designed like the Redwing's to bear weight. It is thicker than others in this category, but not padded, comfortable, or removable like I wish. Overall, this is my new every-day bag: biking to work, and travel. Half the time it carries a change of clothes, the other half it is weighed down with camera equipment.Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Great value, 2 main compartments, Cons: waist belt
