i recently purchased the kelty noah's tarp 16 to pair with kelty adjustable awning poles. sure it was a bit pricey, but its ease of use and design makes it well worth the cost. only real drawback is the weight, but again that amounts to durability. another great product that lives up to the hype that one expects from kelty.

Cons: Cost
Durability: 4 / 5
Quality: 5 / 5

Good tarp, with wind restrictions
May 01, 2011

Bottom line up front: great product and I will purchase it again. I was excited to find this tarp, to provide a good measure of shade for backyard and camping applications. It's much more cost-effective than going for the huge fold-up outdoor canopies that are on the market and you can pack it easily in a day pack with a sleeping bag during mild weather camping. The only caveat is wind. I opted for the maximum square footage, the 16'x 16', instead of the 12' or 9'. It's worth it for the space, but what you gain in shade and rain protection, you also gain in wind harnessing power. That's the only reason I downgraded it from excellent to good. The grommets on the corners are reinforced, but the side grommets are not. With moderate to high stress from winds, these grommets will not maintain their hold on the surrounding fabric and start to rip out. Keep in mind that these were significant winds, in an open area. The corners, though, with the extra reinforced layer of fabric, did just fine.

Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Great value
