Leki Makalu Antishock Pole (Pair)

Developed for serious mountaineering but ideally suited for the most discerning backcountry enthusiasts, the Leki Makalu AS trekking pole features a shock absorbing design that helps you shoulder heavy loads up and down ridgelines. Inside the Makalu AS is a series of internal steel springs and elastomers to minimize vibration, resulting in far less stress on your hands, elbows, shoulder joints and ligaments than rigid trekking poles or walking sticks. Press and twist each pole to activate or deactivate the system to go spring-free on ascents and then opt for full cushioning on the gravity-aided trail descents. Follow the shaft all the way down and you'll find quality carbide Flextips that flex up to 30 degrees without adding structural stress to the pole shafts. Swap out the interchangeable baskets to suit the weather and terrain, and you're ready to go in any season.

a great help
these poles are easy to use. They feel natural in my hands and I will use them even on short hikes. They do grip on rocky areas. I use the antishock even when on slight uphills and enjoy the slight give before the stop. Several simple twists extend the lenghts and several twists the opposite way lock them in place.

These poles are absolutly essential for a long hike. Since I've been using them a few years ago, I've always brought them with me. They help take strain off my back and they are very durable. The ergonomics of the poles are excellent, so they're really comfortable to use!
