Description

You'll find comfort and support well suited to day hiking and short-haul overnight trips in the Lowa Renegade Mid GTX Hiking Boots for men. These boots are more than basic lightweight hikers; they are rugged for cross-country wear and flexible for efficient hiking.

The full nubuck leather uppers deliver exceptional durability, while the integrated waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex lining manages moisture from the inside-out. The perforated climate control footbeds enhance moisture management, cushioning feet and preventing blisters. Overall boot weight is low thanks to Lowa's polyurethane Monowrap Frame -- it adds the lateral ankle support that sets these boots apart from lighter duty boots without adding undue weight or bulk. Additional stability comes from the full-length, anatomical nylon shank and tough Vibram outsoles. The low-cut back fosters a good stride and reduces cuff friction.

Ready to tackle rugged terrain and support the load of an overnight pack, grab the Lowa Renegade Mid Gore-Tex Boots and start planning your weekend getaway.

Excellent boot
October 29, 2010

I was very impressed with these boots; I am 5'11" @ 185lb. and do a lot of day hiking with a 25 to 45 lb back pack and found that these boots were very comfortable right out of the box (no break in period needed); I have had no blisters or sore spots. My only concern is that the tongue is only partly leather and part man made water resistant material. I wish the leather came up a little higher just in case I step in a stream that is deeper than 5" or so, I often walk through streams and although it hasn't happened yet (we are in a fairly dry season this year) I am concerned that the man made material that is useful for breathability may also allow moisture/water to the inside of the boot. Nonetheless, I am very pleased over all and I would highly recommend and buy again this brand.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Solid boots; no blisters!
June 25, 2011

This is my 2nd pair of Lowa Mid GTX hiking boots. The last pair I had were purchased in 2005. After treks in the Rockies, Patagonia and the Alps it was time to get a new pair of boots (due to some cracking in the toe rubber). After looking for several weeks I wound up with simply getting the new version of the same exact boot. They simply have no hot spots and take little to no time to break in. Although I wanted a slightly more stylish pair of boots, the reliability is ultimately the most important factor when going out on the trail.

Pros: no break-in time, comfortable, multiple color options

Lowa is quality and comfort
March 10, 2011

This boot has met or exceeded all my expectations. Very comfortable out of the box, well made and durable. The design besides being very attractive is also very functional and balanced. If I could have done anything different it would have been to go a half size larger to accommodate a heavy sock. I am a 12 narrow and these are a size 12 narrow width and are very true to size. If I wear a regular pair of sox they are fine but I prefer a heavy gauge wool or combo sox and they are a bit tight in that instance. I am very happy with my selection.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

Very good overall
July 18, 2011

Have used on several car-camping day hikes; performed excellently: very comfortable and light enough for a day hike. Provide very good ankle support for day hike although I am not sure if it would be sufficient for backpacking with weight over 35 to 40 lbs - may want to go with a heavier boot. Otherwise, packing these boots may, for some who desire the option, eliminate the need for camp shoes.

Pros: comfort

I have bought these before and love the product. They are extremely rugged and durable. They are waterproof and keep your feet very warm in cold temperatures.

Pros: great durability, Cons: very expensive

Great Construction
December 18, 2011

These boots are obviously really well made, and they are quite comfortable. I haven't had the chance to take them on a long haul yet, but I can tell by the fit that they will go the distance. They feel great through the arch and in the toe box, and they give great ankle support.

First boot that fits in 66 years
February 18, 2013

I purchased Lowa Renegades for the first time late last year. I have a very high instep and it is hard for me to find shoes that fit well. These are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. With my high instep I always need to purchase additional gel insoles to reduce impact on my brittle feet. With the Renegades I can use the insoles that come with the boot. This saves me a little money, which I need since the boots are above my comfort level in pricing. The remarkable thing about the Renegade Boots is that my wife wears the woman's renegade and finds them comfortable also. She has flatter feet and pronates mildly. Yet she wears the Renegade without additional insoles also. We are opposite foot types but still find the same boot to be a perfect fit. This has never happened. This may be obvious to most, but GTX stands for Goretex. Lowa also makes a Renegade LL which stands for leather lined. The leather ones are supposed to breathe better for those in hot dry climate as myself. Sizing and structure: I am 155 lbs 5'9". I normally wear a 9 or 9.5 in boots. I wear a 9 Wide in Lowa. I do light to moderate hiking usually carrying a camera bag 20 lbs or less. Mostly on rocky, sandy areas in the Southwest. The Renegades are considered level 4 boots on the Lowa scale. I translate this to mean light hiking boots. However the soles of the Renegades are stiffer than most "casual" hiking boots, more like backpacking boots. Great for rocky terrain. But if you carry a heavy pack or are on the heavier side yourself you might want to upgrade to a Lowa level 3 boot.

Pros: great fit, Cons: no ventilated version available

Amazing Hiking Boot . . . but . . .
April 13, 2013

I purchased the Lowa Renegade for the first time in 2010. I have been living on the Kenai Peninsula in Southcentral Alaska since that time for the most part. This boot is amazing. It is comfortable, practically waterproof, and never gave me any blisters. Basically, I loved the boots. Believe me I wore these boots for all my outdoor activities, including: fishing, hiking, saltwater kayaking, hunting, and even just out on the town. I used them a lot. I would have given them 5 stars except for the fact that they completely fell apart on me in October 2012. I mean the sole just fell apart. I noticed first that my socks would get wet in puddles and then two weeks later my shoes looked like a puppet because the sole was flapping while i walked. That being said, i purchased them again and will try to take better care of them. I love them but if they can't last more than two years I don't think I'll purchase again due to the price. Amazing shoes otherwise.

Pros: comfortable, waterproof, great fit, look great, work for variety of activities, great hiking boots, Cons: completely fell apart when they finally gave out, did not last three years but i worked them hard

great boot!

I use it for day hikes and multi day backpacking. Lightweight yet ample support for heavy packs. Good ventilation and traction, laces easy and is a sharp looking boot. Can't go wrong with Lowa.

Awesome Boot
October 08, 2012

I love these boots. They are so comfortable! They comform to my feet and dont give me any blisters. I reccoemd changing out the laces to something stronger though. .The laces it comes with tend to be too easy to pull. They are too elastic. I would not reccomend this boot for loads above 20lb in a pack.

Perfect for backpacking
July 15, 2011

Took these out for a three day hike in Sequoia early Summer. Put about 20 miles on these shoes through snow melt, snow, backcountry hiking in the snow. Not only did these keep my feet dry and comfortable, they never gave me any blisters or even hot spots. Didnt break them in at all. So far my best pair of boots ever.

Pros: water resistant, comfort, blister free, Cons: n/a

Lowa Comfort
August 27, 2011

I own 3 pair of Lowa hiking boots. The Renegade are my favorite and I would easily recommend these to others shopping for boots. The Renegade is very comfortable right out of the box. The Vibram soles are superior on these boots. The Vibram soles are significantly better than Lowa's own sole on some of their other boots such as the Zephyr. The Renegade Vibram soles grip better and last longer. The insoles are standard factory issue and will need to be replaced - I use Sole insoles which I find superior to all others. The Renegade runs slightly narrow which fits my foot very well with liners and socks. These boots are waterproof with GORE-TEX which is a must have on the trails I hike. A big plus is the comfort and they are lightweight.

Comfort out of the box!
February 12, 2011

Just got these boots for a Teton hike later this year. They were comfortable out of the box and I've had the all day with absolutely no comfort problems. I have a wide foot so the availability of a wide size was a plus in my decision to pull the trigger on this boot. I'm glad I did. I'll have to wait for a while to make a decision on durability but so far there are no downsides . Also aesthetically they are a nice looking boot. I got the black/navy and love the look. Didn't hurt that Altrec had them on sale either!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, great look

Lowa Renegade Mid GTX
September 11, 2011

I've had about 3 pairs of Lowa and they've all been fantastic. Comfort right out of the box is known to be great with Lowa. If their last fits your foot you're almost guaranteed a great boot. And they come in Narrow also with some of their styles. The Renegade Mid GTX is a much lighter boot than I've had with Lowa in the past, but I'll be in Africa for quite a while in the desert and wanted a lighter trekking boot. We'll see how well it breathes since it's GTX. Very light and flexible boot with good support. If you are doing some very rocky climbing/hiking these will be too flexible. But for general hiking they're been great so far.

Pros: light and supportive

I wear them all winter and for hard yard work.
November 13, 2012

I wear them all winter and for hard yard work, and no matter how dirty they get I can take my garden hose and in no time they look like new again. They are a little heave , but so very nice dry and just right. I have now had them over 2 years. I'm now wanting more Lowa shoes!

Pros: great traction, made to last!, not made in china!, great foot protection, Cons: a little bit heave

Excellent boots
July 14, 2011

First let me say that I've avoided buying and trying these boots for a while because their style seemed too casual (they lack a rubber toe cap). A friend recommended that I try them on so I ordered a pair and I have to say, they are comfortable enough right out of the box to hike in. The fit is excellent and I usually take an 8.5 and ordered that size and they're fine with my usual socks: SmartWool medium weight PhDs. The boots are well made, sturdy, flexible but not too flexible and have enough ankle support to make me feel secure. Even the beige color which doesn't look all that appealing online looks much better in person; it has more green in it. The proof will be in hiking and I have yet to walk outside the house with the boots. Even though they're quite comfortable out of the box I'll wear them inside for a few days just to make sure. The soles look decent and are thickly lugged which should make them pretty sticky on damp rock. Again, hiking will tell the tale. The boots are so comfortable in fact that I'm probably going to order the low version of them for everyday wear.

Pros: light weight, comfortable, deep lugs in sole, Cons: casual style, lack of rubber toe cap

Well Made
September 14, 2011

I wear a 9.5 in Merrells, 10 in Nike, and 9 in dress shoes (Ferragamo & E. Zegna). That said, I ordered a 9.5 for these Lowa boots and they're a little small with just cotton socks. I am returning these for a size 10, the size that I wear for Nike sneakers. Overall though, these boots seem really well made...I'm so impressed that I will exchange them for the size 10 and see how it goes. Oh, I also have narrow feet and the Regular width for these feel about right. If you do not have narrow feet, I'd consider the Wide width as suggested by others.

Pros: attractive appearance, good ankle support, well made

Renegade Mid GTX
June 01, 2011

Pro's - Solid Construction. I was drawn to this boot because of the European design and manufacture. I was looking for a lighter mid-height boot where the sole would not separate from the upper after a few uses. The Monowrap design element is unique and just may have solved that issue - time will tell. But, I have worn the boot a couple times without issue and virtually no break-in and no concerns. Con's - None. This is an awesome hiking boot for those activities when a low cut design would risk ankle injury, but a heavier and stiffer expedition type boot would be to much.

First of all: this boots are worth every single dime. Got them and out of the box I went on a 6 hours hike. No need to break in, comfortable and light paired with high end quality. I'm not sure this boots are actually built in Bavaria, Germany but the workmanship is simply excellent. Have another boot from Lowa now more than 12 years and when the stability is the same with this one I'm a real happy camper.

My first purchase with Altrec was for these boots, and I'm very pleased with the entire transaction. The boots were a little snug when I first put them on, but they stretched out nicely after wearing them for about an hour. They're extremely comfortable, great looking, light and I highly recommend them.

I'm Narrow Minded
December 07, 2010

I have a narrow foot and I found this to be an outstanding boot for my foot. Nothing fits perfect for me, but the Lowa Rengade Mid GTX was the best solution. I have heel that is an A width, so the boot does not fit as snug there as on the mid-part of my foot. Frankly, there are not enough choices out there for narrow feet. Unfortunately for me, I also have very long toes. I had to get the 15 after first ordering the 14. I wear a 14B running shoe, but the larger size was necessary for the boot. I have yet to go hiking with them, but hope to climb Mt. Whitney next year. So far they feel great when walking around the house. I will probably buy a 2nd pair in another color.

Pros: Great design, Build quality

Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Men's
March 28, 2012

I walked the entire Camino de Santiago de Compostela (500 miles) using these shoes. I had no issues with blisters, my Lowa Renegades were very comfortable and proved very reliable and durable. Upon my return, I was amazed to see that my Vibram soles were still in great shape, with no loss of rubber tread visible in any area of the soles. My Renegades were comfortable in hot weather and they kept me dry and warm in Galicia's wet and cold weather. All in all, a great pair of all-terrain hiking shoes, I highly recommend them! Buen Camino!

Pros: comfortable, durable, kept my feet dry

Deluxe hiking boots
January 07, 2013

These boots were recommended to me by an Altrec.com customer service person (Jason... I think). I explained my need for really solid, waterproof hiking boots that could handle the rigors of the Utah, off trail, back country during the cold winter months, as well as some of the sloppier times in spring and/or fall. I also communicated my flat feet (wider size) needs and explained my tendency to Merrell products. He recommended these Lowa boots - and he was right. They are a little pricey; however, anybody that hikes regularly will understand that the money is worth it to protect your feet. These boots only took 1 hike to break in (felt a little restricting on the heel on my first hike). I'm now about 8 hikes in to using these boots and my feet are dry, warm and comfortable tramping through 2 feet of snow, etc. The sole grip seems to be good and the ankle support is excellent.
