Great low hiking shoe. sturdy, waterproof, light and comfortable..A shoe that is made well and I will get many miles use out of.. Gortex construction adds to the life ofthe shoe.
Great shoe, but boot version is better
February 21, 2012
I liked the shoe, but I decided to return it and keep the boot version of the Zephyr. The shoe just does not have the glove like fit or feel of the boot. That being said, it was still a great shoe, I would just go for the boot in most situations, except for in the summer with shorts. Boots and shorts look goofy.
Good boots

These boots are very lightweight and comfortable. They are well made and durable. The color selected was beige brown. The laces were very orange (which didn't look so nice) so I put some heavy duty black laces in and they look better.
Pros: lightweight, comfortableNice n' Lite

Purchased the LOWA Zephyr GTX Lo as my Tibets were just too hot in the summer. These shoes fit perfectly even with my orthodics and were true to size. Hiked 6 miles first weekend with superb results. No pack but sure they could handle some weight. Great warm weather mid-hiker.
Pros: immediate comfort, excellent heel cup and cushion, good shank on shale rock, true to sizemost durable

of all the brands I have tried so far the Lowa Tempest is the most durable shoe for a heavy person. The upper holds up incredibly well; the lining eventually wears out on the heel The sole is mega sturdy and does not wear
very good

These are really handsome shoes, they fit well (snuggly tight to the entire foot), and are very comfortable. I bought them just prior to a big adventure trek vacation in Costa Rica, and they were the only shoes I used during that trip. They got a huge test of a workout, in lots of rain, street walking, and hiking in very challenging weather and terrain conditions that included hiking on muddy and rocky mountains horseback riding, and crossing a bunch of shallow rocky streams
Shoes too narrow for wide feet but otherwise great
April 29, 2011
I have extra wide feet, so these shoes are too narrow. But other than that, they look great. They're fairly lightweight (although heavier than a trail runner), look really durable with double-stitching everywhere, and have no chance of sole separation because the rubber sole is melded onto the rest of the shoe with reinforcements that come halfway up the sides. These shoes look like they would last a long time, and I know someone who has used them for a decade. The tread on the bottom is fairly aggressive, and the in-step is just big enough for a gaiter strap. The shoe doesn't have a lot of flex, so it definitely feels like a boot, but it'll also give you a lot of stability on hills. This is not some gushy Merrell. As with all Lowas I've tried, it's safer to go half a size (U.S.) bigger than your normal size.
Pros: durable, lightweight, solidQuality shoe!

I have a pair of Lowa hiking boots, so I decided to try their shoes. Same great quality. I wear a size 10.5 in the boots so I ordered the same. Fit is excellent.
Great boot

Great boot - the Zephyr is all that it advertised. Lightweight, supportive, great traction. Excellent Hiking Boot for hard to fit feet.
Not a great fit

Shoes are person specific. I found these overpriced for the feel and comfort they provided. Someone else may find them wonderful.
