From the minute the boot goes on its comfortable. The fit is true to size. The shoestrings are easy to lace up which is important if you wear them everyday like I do. I have the blue/grey color so it makes it so you can wear it just about anywhere. The one thing I was hoping for is that when you walk on ice or snow it would not slip but it can in certain instances. The quality of the boot is fantastic very well made.

Great hiking boot that keeps your ankle from slipping around. Great traction, I just wish I could "feel" the ground a little better. True to size and very durable.

Comfortable fit offering wide width; true to size; good ankle and arch support. Room for custom orthodics, if necessary. Great for walking/hiking in dry or wet conditions. I love Lowa brand. This is my second pair of the Renegade GTX. Like the way they look too! Enjoy ordering from Altrec.

I have a long, skinny foot and manage a vineyard. I walk miles almost every day, through sometimes rough and often muddy terrain. These boots are comfortable and durable and fit beautifully. My husband and I both wear the 10N womens size, so that makes it even better! Normally I wear a 10.5, so these apparently run a little longer but whatever, they're the best.

I have really wide feet and bought these in the wide width. They have been really comfortable so far, sturdy for day hikes but also lightweight. They do sometimes slip on wet surfaces, but since se are my first pair of hiking boots, it's hard to say whether they slip any more or less than others.

The best and most comfortable boot I have ever owned. Great foot support with soft step. Hiking is a real pleasure due to the fit and construction. My feet stay warm and dry.

I am delighted to have found these boots. I looked for over a year and either didn't like how they looked or how they fit. Really, I looked everywhere both East and West Coast. I use them every day and they fit very well and look good. I plan to get another pair in another color if I can find my size.

Great Boot

Very good quality boot, and not too heavy. Sturdy, with great ankle support. In contrast to another hiking boot I own, the Lowa did not mold to my foot right away, but it was still extremely comfortable right out of the box. I often have issues with the toe box being too narrow, but these Lowa boots fit great, even while wearing heavy wool socks. The Altrec customer service is great by the way, and this boot was a recommendation of my customer service rep, Shane.

Quality, comfort, fit, stability and that special oomph-rocker motion- that feels like the shoe is literally walking for you), are the most important aspects for me when choosing an athletic shoe or boot. I am a disabled veteran with multiple head, neck & lumbar injuries incurred while on airborne parachute duty. INO, every, every thing in my body hurts, all the time. These Lowa Renegade boots are good quality, comfort, stable w/oomph right out of the box. However, fit is another issue. The euro to usa sizes are incorrect. Ie., I am a perfect 8 or 8w, depending on manufacturer's design. I first bought stone color, in ladies sz usa 8/euro 39. Huge! 1.5x larger and color is really bland. Next, 7.5W/38.5 sepia/taupe= still too big, but color is earthy (I love it). Then, sz 7/38 sepia/taupe= left shoe perfect, right shoe defective w/narrow toe box. They are going back too. Now, I know that I need a 7w/38w in sepia/taupe, but guess what? Not in stock! I am not too worried because Altrecs customer service representitave Christina, hepled me with a one on one attitude, like an army sister or brother's cohesive attitude. For those not military, this means that Christina's effort to make returns, purchase replacements, and refunds as smooth and easy as possible, was above and beyond any customer service experience I have witnessed in 47 years of living. Although highly professional, she displays a sunny personna and a cheerfully calming affect, excellent communicator, and reliable. Christina is a role model for Altrec and a fine example of what public relation's management should be!

Good all around hiker

I like to keep life simple and have a boot that works for day hiking and short backpack trips. This boot is sturdy, yet light. I have a hard to fit foot and wear custom orthotics that are wide at the arch and I also like a lot of room in the toe box. This boot has a lot of support through the mid-sole and works well with my custom orthotics. I had an earlier version of this boot that lasted me for five years of hiking in dry and wet weather.

Just received these boots. I wear a women's 11 wide and this is the only boot I could find in my size anywhere. It fits well, true to size. I am recovering from a broken ankle and needed a high top shoe/boot to wear to work. Wore them all day the first day, they do need a short break in period, I overdid. Looks like I'll be wearing them half days to start. Wish this size came in more colors too. However, the taupe is a nice medium brown color. Waiting for my ankle to heal and by then the boots will be broken in and I will head for the hiking trails.

good multi-purpose boot

I recently fractured both feet, and am looking for a boot that is not too heavy, supports my foot, and would be easy to wear on city streets as well as hiking. These boots seem to fit the bill, though I would like better arch support. Also, I am considering ordering a size down. I am normally a 7.5, regular width, and ordered the corresponding European size, but these are a little big, even with a thick sock, so I may exchange them.

Over the last 10 years, I have logged a lot of miles, and this is my 3rd pair of Lowa Renegade Mid GTX Hiking boots. I save my old ones for the raining, muddy trail days, and after 5 years they still keep my feet, warm, dry and comfortable. I just got a new pair because my soles were wearing down, and I like the better traction for dry summer trails. Would definitely recommend these boots, you don't have to break them in.
