i am a small retailer of maglites on the east coast. last year i have repaired a lot of maglites in your condition. as i only charge for parts i would be willing to talk to you about this flashlight if you don't want to repair it ican only offer the following advice be sure to take the end cap off aand at least make sure the batteries slide out this condition is usually caused by trying to get the last millivollt out of the battery and at the least results in a shorter bulb life or leaking batteries. good luck wwith any future maglite purchases as they are the best light made for the money in any situation sincerly yours r. philip funk

I have a mini-maglite and I've enjoyed it very much. Recently, the batteries are dead and it is impossible to remove the end cap to replace the batteries. I've tried to use two pairs of pliers and practically wrecked the flash light and the cap wouldn't budge. I am wondering whether anyone has had the same experience.

Anonymous - 2002-10-24Switch failure in Mini Maglite
An excellent product but for weakness in the 'switch'. I have had this fail, as have more than one of my colleagues. Where can I obtain a replacement as rest of torch is ok.
Re comments about end 'freezing' on - I found silicone grease (suitable for rubber & electrical equipment0 to be ideal to protect both ends of torch.

I have made it a habit of not storing the batteries in the flashlight itself. I have a couple of flashlights loaded,for emergencies but for the most of themI use rechargable batteries. I charge the batteries until I am ready to use them and then I load up the flashlights or headlamps.
Try that "Liquid Wrench" that you get at hardware stores,to loosen the end caps.
Youmight have to replace the O-Ring as it might have corroded too. Or try WD40 to loosen it.
There is always the option of,"Throw it away and start over. Don't make the same mistake twice."

blearyeye - 2002-07-14great light until battery wears out
I cannot get the end cap off in order to change the batteries (As John in 2000 also reported). I have used pliers and anything I can think of, nicking up the flashlight in process. Anyone have suggestions?

The aluminum mating surfaces of the MagLite barrel and end cap will seize up from the inside if you let alkaline batteries run down in it.
If someone forgets and leaves the light on, or it gets jostled in your pack, etc. the batteries will run down and leak. The light becomes a burden rather than a friend.
Don't let batteries run down.
Don't leave the light on.
Don't use alkaline batteries.
Don't go out in the dark.
If you can live with those restrictions, OK. If not buy a cheap plastic AA light and forget the baby sitting.
Anonymous - 2004-06-10End Cap problem!
The light worked great while the batteries lasted, but as noted in many other reviews, I can't get the end cap off to change them. This is the most ridiculous problem and makes this product garbage. What a waste.
