Does well what it does...
Works like a regular ATC with a handy arm, when angled down, adds a lot of friction to catch a fall without a whole lot of effort. Feeds Rope like a dream when TR and lead belaying. A little jarring when lower at first but once you get the rhythm its pretty smooth. Only thing is that this is a specific belay device for only TR and Sport so if this is all you do then I recommend it. however there are many other devices out there that are more versatile.

only for sport climbing
everything is perfect expcet it can only be used in sport climbing.
normally we use belay decive with 2 tubes that allow us to rapell. But I had 2 hard times when I got stuck by this guy.
anyway, if you do not rapell. this is perfect workhorse. light, functional, and safe.

Love it...
Smart belay is the middle ground between a the simplicity of an ATC and the safety of a grigri. Just staring at it may lead you to scratch your head but once you run a rope through it you'll start to realize how easy and fantastic this belay device actually is. Only draw back is that you can't do a double rope rappel off of it.

Simple, intuitive, and smooth!
Nice price for an assisted catch style belay device, perfect for sport or single pitch trad, and amazing for toproping. It fed really smoothly using a 10.5 rope and is probably even better with a skinny line. Lowering was a bit bouncy at the start, but you quickly get used to it, and then you can lower as smooth as ever.
