Purchased for running
February 01, 2011
This jacket was vey light and flexible, which would have been good for running. Unfortunately, the overall fit of the jacket was too short in the arms and torso length. After wearing the jacket around the house for an hour the material showed every fiber it came into contact with. The thumbholes would have been great protection, but they were clearly not designed well enough.
Great for on the move

I had been searching for a softshell like this for a while. I wanted something with a hood, light weight and with pit zips; finally!! This soft shell is great for high output activities in bad weather, like nordic skiing or backcountry touring. I do alot of such activities and historically I would get too hot and sweaty on the way up and then be cold on the way down. This jacket is just right in that it offers great protection from precipitation and wind, but when things heat up, it is not too bulky and you can just undo the pitzips. Therefore, less sweat on the way up to make you cold on the way down. My only small issue with the jacket is that i find it a little short (I am 5'5", 140 lbs, got the Med). Mammut may have made it shorter to reduce weight and bulk, I don't know. This isn't such a bit problem that I dislike the jacket or would reduce the rating, just pointing it out. Otherwise, the fit is true to size except maybe slighty roomy in the shoulders. On top of all this greatness, I got a wicked deal from Altrec; thanks!!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, light weight, hood, pitzips, Cons: little shortTotally windproof hoody!

If you're looking for a totally windproof hoody, this is it! I wanted a Windstopper jacket, and this one is more than I could ask for. Love the fabric, fit, and the pit zips that zip all the way down are really great when you need some ventilation. I'm 5'4" and 105lbs. The small fits me well with room for layering underneath. I do wish it had a drawstring at the waist, but it fits snug enough around the bottom to keep winds from blowing up under it.
Pros: Great design, Build quality2010-01-01

Got what I wanted
March 22, 2011
I wanted a lighter weight but hooded softshell with pitzips and good wind protection so that I could adjust to changing exertion and conditions while cross country or back country skiing. The ultimate hoody has no chest or sleeve pockets, and the interior pockets are netting-faced. I did fine with that (do miss the exterior chest or sleeve pocket just a bit), and really loved the great side zips--easy to access and use, even with the pack on. The hood did not have a lot of "body" to hold the visor out over my head, but I am still playing with the adjustments. The jacket despite its light weight lived up to the windproof promise--I felt no wind penetration, even on the downhill run. Over all I am very happy with the jacket and would certainly recommend it to others looking for the same characteristics.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of useWrite a review for the Mammut Ultimate Hoody here.
Perfect for AT
June 08, 2010
The mammut ultimate hoody is a bit short in the torso but is overall a functional shell and is ideal for ski touring. The full zips on the sides provide essential core ventilation when needed and the windstopper fabric is very protective. I would recommend this jacket to any mountaineer. Altrec was certainly offering it at the lowest price and it was a steal!
Great Lightweight Windstopper
December 19, 2011
This is a great jacket. My wife has worn for a year now. Very lightweight, but get the job done. Blocks wind and repeals rain better than other jackets she has. Easy packable.
Pros: Great design, Lasts forever, Performance, Great valueGreat quality!

Incredibly light, very warm and great design! Of course, Swiss technology!
Great!

nice lightweight softshell jacket- lots of zippers for cooling off, love the hood and the thumb holes.
Great Jacket
June 10, 2012
We have both the men's and women's jackets in our house and they are constantly being used by roommates and friends. We've had them for 2 1/2 years now and they have been incredible. Very Durable, only one scuff on the men's jacket after a bad rock climbing fall; actually, we were amazed there were no holes. Not the warmest jacket, you would want another one for winter, but great for the other three seasons! Men's fits a bit strange (large around belly/chest but not necessarily long enough), women's small has been spot on for most of the girls coming through the house. I expect to have this jacket for at least 5 more years, probably longer.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: men's fits a bit funnyMammut's always fantastic and unique cut.

I love this jacket. Very flatering. Great thumb holes. Nice spring and summer jacket. Not really warm, just a light cover up to wear a fleece under if you need warmth. Light storm protector.
Best Softshell Jacket on the Market!
January 02, 2011
Can't say enough great things about this jacket or about Mammut. I have 2 Ultimate Hoodies...and my husband has 2 as well. There is nothing I could think to change about the fit/design/function of this shoftshell...it goes everywhere with me and I love it to death. It is the only jacket I know of that has a full zip from the waist to the pit...it is awesome. I am 5'3" 100 pounds and the extra small fits perfect, still have room for vest and a couple layers. Buy this jacket, you won't regret it...more than likely you will want another one ASAP! Mammut is just money!
Totally windproof hoody!

I used this hoodie on a recent trip hiking in the Andes during rainy season and it did not disappoint. For 2 months it was a daily wear and only once did an intense rainstorm overcome its water-resistance, but only on my forearms. Wind protection was perfect. I would most assuredly recommend this as a great buy. It looks great as well which can't hurt. The only other issues I had were that the sleeves could have been a little longer for better use of the thumb holes. However, I am 5'9" and run into that problem with many active wear tops. I also found the front zipper harder to use than others. Overall, it is durable, great for most water, all wind, looks good and fits well.
Pros: Build quality, PerformanceNot quite right
January 25, 2011
I ordered this Mammut Hoody for my girlfriend but we ended up returning it. We wanted a warm but breathable hoody for high output winter activity like cross country skiing. It was close but it was expensive and the fit was not flattering, especially in the chest area. Stiff, didn't drape well. The full length venting side zipper was interesting but seemed like it wouldn't work that well. Conventional pit zips would be better. Color was nice and quality looked good.
Pros: Build quality, Cons: Bad designFinally!

a functional hood, zip pits, rugged zippers, thumb holes all in one jacket. Wish the shell was a bit heftier.

good, not great

This jacket would be best for spring and fall rigorous activities. The neckline has not felt sealed from strong wind. The jacket is not as warm as other softshells. It is well-vented, true- to- size, and the color of it is lovely. It will be a good jacket for spring road biking.
Pros: Build quality, Performance, beautiful color, Cons: neck not well-sealedNice jacket!

I love very much my jacket. Incredibly light, very warm and great design! Overall a perfect product for me and totally worth the money! I buy the jacket of mammut again.
Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Cons: CostNice & light
January 28, 2010
Sizing runs a little small. Jacket is very light weight - I'm a little wary that it won't be warm enough on the chairlift. The Windstopper lining is why I bought it, plus the hood is cut & functional - but I haven't tried it on over my helmet yet.
Highly recommended

It is very nice jacket. The weight is light. confortable, and the design is so good. I liked the Thumb loop. I wear mostly when I climb the mountain or hiking. I highly reccomend the item !

LOVE this jacket

This is an awesome jacket. Side and pit zips are great for total venting while keeping snow rain off. Hood is great protection, easy on/off when conditions change. I have a light color and it washes up nice after a weekend of close encounters with tree branches and dirt. Am somewhat concerned about durability when getting brushed up against and caught on tree branches. But so far no rips or snags.
Pros: Great design, Performancegreat product from Switzerland
November 30, 2010
In the heart of the highest european mountains, the "Alpen", lies the country of Switzerland, where Mammut products have their origin. This Ultimate Hoody is a very versatile Softshell product with Gore's Windstopper technology. The fit is great and there are no limits to active movements, originally the Hoody is made for climbing, probably that's why. But of course you don't have to be a climber to get all of the benefits. The jacket is good for almost every active lifestyle. I used to wear it during a snow trip with temperatures of 14 °F and it did a good job. Of course, it was the outer shell only and you've got to keep moving to safeguard the warmth capacities of this combination. Under it there was a Mammut Aconcagua Jacket made of Polartec Powerstretch Fleece and some compressing and breathable underwear as a base layer. The wind had almost no effect and the snow did melt on the surface, forming small round drops that were repelling with ease and seemed to flow and bounce over the fabric when shaking. Although the product is quite pricy (normally, when not purchased during a special sale at Altrec), i can recommend it, especially in combination with the above mentioned Aconcagua Jacket, those two are building a good team. Altrec did ship this product super fast and it was a great deal and a bargain.

Love this jacket.. Does fit snug so recommend ordering a size larger than your usual.. I got the dark purple and love the color.. The jacket zips all the way up each side so it's very adaptable to the activity.. Wear it for hiking; snows shoeing; and other winter weather.. Great wind protection as well. Would highly recommend it.
a perfect layer!

love the weight, protection and colour! its the perfect layer over the merino for the uptrack when it's snowing longer sleeves would be nice- the thumb holes aren't very comfortable
love it

I purchased the night shade one and I love it. The only thing I don't like about it are the side zippers that go all the way down to the hip. Other than that it's a great lightweight jacket.

one of the best softshell jackets on the market
August 15, 2012
This jacket offers everything you expect: great fit, arm zips for ventilation, highly breathable and awesome color ( I got the palau /turquoise). I wore it for hiking and it kept me warm but never got overheated. I do ski tours in the winter so it will be great for that too, with a merino wool shirt und a middle layer. Highly recommend this jacket, you will not regret it!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, highly breathable, flattering fitstylish performance! Love It!

Thing weighs around 10 oz. and will keep me warm - at least my upper half - on a motorcycle when it is 28 degrees F out and the bike is moving along at 60 mph. Best down garment I've ever had. Fabulous all weather jacket in a gorgeous colour, great service, prompt delivery- all in all a great purchase experience.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueGood coat
November 10, 2010
I've given this hoodie the full five stars. However, I was slightly disappointed when I first received it. The reason for that is that I had the old version of this coat from about 5 years ago (it stopped being windproof at the shoulders where the backpack straps rub) and I liked the old version better. I just thought I write a review for people who alse considering getting the new version. In comparison to the old version, the new material is slightly shiny and the fit is more roomy. However, the old version ran a bit on the small side. What I really don't like is that the new black version comes with these light grey zipper straps, elastic, etc. I think that looks really cheap in comparison to the just plain black. So I actually exchanged all of these parts with what I had on my old coat. Said all that, it is a really good coat: lightweight and wind-proof and that's exactly why I wanted it and would by it again in 5 years time!
Excellent shell, but...
October 15, 2010
This Ultimate Hoody is a great multi-functional shell. Very true to size according to the chart(I'm 5'7" 125lbs and the small fit perfectly tailored with room for baselayers). It seems totally windproof and really light. I wish the arms were a little longer or the thumbholes with a little more stretch, because it was a little tight on my thumbs. I also had a hard time getting the main zipper together, so I sadly had to return it. I otherwise would've kept it. As a side note...the bottom hem is elasticized(instead of just a drawcord)-which is a little bit of a pain cuz I found it rising up and bubbling out a little @ the waist due to the elastic hem. This wouldn't have been an issue if it had a straight hem w/drawcord.
Perfect Hiking Buddy
January 12, 2011
I love this jacket. I got a size small (5ft9" and 125 lbs) which is my usual size in TNF and Patagonia and think the fit is great. I love how lightweight and ergonomic this jacket is. Main complaints is that it's not very well suited for powdery Alpine skiing as it is too fitted. I use this jacket a a midlayer under a technical shell for big pow days and use it as a top layer for warm XX ski or snowshoe days. I also wear it over tees and sweaters to run errands around town. My other gripe is the vent zips go all the way down to the bottom hem which is a bit unusual and the zippers sometimes creep up and have to be zipped down again.

Great Product
March 26, 2011
Purchased for the wife; the jacket is exactly what was expected. The fit is good, slightly long in the arms but not unexpected. It breaths great and is truly windproof. She was out today in 40 deg damp weather and winds ~20 mph and had no problems with the wind. And she does not have a high tolerance to cold. Overall, a well made product that is highly recommended.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, PerformanceMy Wonderful first Mammut Hoodie
January 05, 2011
I ordered the celery hoodie in size XS. I am 5' and petite. The sleeves fit perfectly and the thumb holes are comfortable. I was concerned that the elbow articulations would not work for me like they often do but they fit just fine. The zippers on the sides are really helpful and the front zipper is also two-way which is useful. The soft shell fabric is soft and light yet is able to protect you from the wind and is water resistant. I wish the hood had more shape and cupped around the neck and head, but it is able to be synched if needed. Perfect for layering during any aerobic activity or just to wear around town. Fits true to size and does not bulge in any weird places. Pockets are mesh inside. It really is the 'ultimate' hoodie. You'll be happy if you get it!

My husband and I both bought these coats and we wear them non-stop. They are perfect for Fall and Spring weather and with a little layering can wear in winter. They are so comfy, great fit, and holds up well. The price is good and love the colors. They are a good length, not too long or not too short, we LOVE them!

It is a very nice jacket but I decided to return it as I am looking for something with more insulation.
