Pop quiz: Where do race ski bindings belong? On racing skis for a racecourse, right? So why do experts insist on abusing quality race bindings in the backcountry? Match your performance needs to your favorite terrain with Marker's Duke binding with 110-mm. wide brake. It offers all the exceptional experts-essential components that you demand from a performance race binding, but with a better suited toe and heel design, and a little less weight than those race bindings--especially the ones that never seem to let you float in deep powder snow. Marker's Duke binding features a Triple Pivot Elite Toe that offers unprecedented energy absorption and minimizes pre-release. The fear of pre-release (especially on double-diamond boilerplate) is usually why elite and expert backcountry skiers opt for a racing binding on their backcountry and all terrain skis. Marker took the Duke a step further (no pun intended ) with a binding connection that features increased boot lug contact for better energy transmission between your ski boot and your binding, resulting in better response through must-make chute turns and potentially less effort--which means you might be able to ski longer with more energy. The Marker Duke also has a special heel piece that focuses power in the direction of your ski boot sole, but does it with improved elasticity direction, so you enjoy better heel hold with exceptional energy transfer. One of the coolest features on the Duke binding is the BCT--Back Country Technology ski lever. If you slide the lever to the 5- or 10-degree positions, it acts as a hiking aid on inclines or traverses. The BCT also has a distinct mobility feature in BC (backcountry) mode that moves your weight on your ski back by as much as 30 mm. for better kick turns and improved ski swing weight in natural backcountry conditions. Unlike other ski bindings that feature things like torsion bars, the Duke has this wide bracket construction (Marker calls it "Power-Width Design) that connects the binding directly to the points on the ski where the power from your feet needs to be transferred. While most standard bindings are sized to fit bindings that have a 63-mm. width, the Duke stands apart from the one-size-fits-most approach and fits skis with a waist width of at least 76 mm. or more. This season the Marker Duke is the heavyweight of their backcountry selection, but if you're a lighter expert skier who weighs in at less than 250 lbs. with your ski helmet, jacket and gear on (add in the fully-loaded weight of your ski pack if you use one) check out the new lightweight Marker Baron 12.
binding rips
binder is great. only negative is a little heavy, but knowing that it locks in and feels great. have them mounted on my fatypus alotta's and great for hiking up to find the pow, plus is plenty sturdy when dropping bigs. wish you could order with the 132 brake, added cost stinks, but all in all great for moderate climbing (due to weight) and locking in and shredding...
