just as described
This jacket performs just as advertised by Marmot. It is a minimalist down jacket. It fits me perfectly. I am an athletic build and am able to put an layer of fleece on under this without difficulty. The angle wing construction is excellent and allows unrestricted upper extremity mobility. In addition to this it has hood adjustments that allow perfect fit with or without a helmet. This has become my favorite on the trail or just wearing around town.

Great jacket! Light weight and warm.
I bought this jacket after getting the same model for my 6 yo. daughter. Her's seemed very well made and warm (according to her) and after admiring it for a couple of weeks I pulled the trigger on one for myself.
For reference, I am 5' 10" and weigh 165-168 lbs. and purchased a medium. The fit was just what I wanted in that it fit close to the body but still had enough room for layering (base layer, fleece etc.). Layering with bulky wool sweaters and the like would be pushing the limits of a medium for me but that wasn't my intention.
My first impression was how light the jacket was. A big plus as I had intended to take it backpacking. I believe the specs. stated it weighed in at a bit over a pound but in the hand it felt like half of that but still seems to be very warm. I say seems because there's been a bit of a winter warm spell on the East coast of late and haven't been able to test it in very frigid weather. However, at 32F with some wind with just a t-shirt under it to walk the dogs I was completely comfortable. The hood is large enough to accommodate a helmet as it was intended to but still adjusts down to a snug fit around the head without one and does a good job at keeping the wind out. Chest pocket is nice and extends to just under the armpit which is nice to keep contents from beneath shoulder straps if wearing a pack. The lined hand-warmer pockets are nice and the large interior pocket seconds as a stuff sack. The jacket stuffs into this interior pocket without much effort and doubles as a nice backpacking pillow as a bonus.
I wouldn't want to wear it without a shell if it were raining but it makes no claims of being waterproof. Very light rain or snow shouldn't be an issue as it does seem to have some water repellent properties. The external fabric is very soft and feels very silk like. Might not win a fight with a thorn bush but seems durable enough. A heavier fabric would add significant weight so there's always a trade off.
Overall I am extremely pleased with the jacket as well as the service from Altrec who got it to me very quickly and at a good price. Now my wife wants one too.

Marmot Ama Dablam
You will be surprised that a down jacket this light is actually quite warm. I am actually careful that it does not snag on anything because the outer shell seems fragile.

EVERYTHING A WINTER JACKET SHOULD BE
I searched long and hard and have finally found the cold weather jacket of my dreams. It's tapered, so it fit the athletic frame great. I'm 6'4", 210 and the large fits perfectly. Wore it with just a t shirt and hat in 20 degree weather for hours on end. No problem.
They are glossier in person than the pictures show.

awesome lightweight down jacket
This jacket is awesome. It's very soft, extremely light and compressible. When not in use I can easily stuff it inside its own inner side pocket and just hang it on my backpack where it'll be readily available when I take a break and need to keep my body warm. I am an Asian male, 5'8" 143lb. I purchased a size S and it fits me perfectly. Oh and I just love the Angel Wing movement. I can move my arms in any direction and it doesn't lift the jacket from my torso at all. Awesome.

Ama Dablam Jacket
I just replaced my old Jacket from the '80s. The Ama Dablam jacket from Marmot blows it away for comfort and warmth and light weightiness. The higher quality down is very compressible and the fabric is flexible and comfortable. I also like the fabric because it is softer and quieter than my old jacket.
At first the large helmet-compatible hood seemed too large but I was able to adjust it nicely with the cinch straps provided. The built in bungee cinches are also helpful for getting the fit just right.
This is a nice warm outer layer in dry weather and it fits well under my waterproof outer shell in wet weather.

Men's Ama Dablam jacket
Purchased a Men's Small in black for a 5'6" athletic female with a slightly long torso (back length of a men's jacket is typically 2" longer than the women's version) who is ALWAYS COLD.
Had the jacket for almost 2 weeks. Temps in MI have been single digits lately, and this jacket performed just great. Temps above 10* I wore it with thin layers and was fine. For temps below 10* I added my MHW Compressor underneath and was cozy. I doubt others would need the 2nd jacket, but I'm always cold so I'd rather take off layers than start to feel chilled....
Jacket sleeves are a tad long for me, but the velcro wrist closures make it easy to adjust them so they don't slide down and cover my hands. The back length is perfect--covers my butt like a women's parka would.
I LOVE the simplicity in design on this jacket. No contrasting colors, no alternating fabrics. The zippers are very neat looking without extra "flaps"--just a very CLEAN DESIGN.
I already have the Marmot Guides Down Jacket, which is also a quality piece. I added the Ama Dablam to my jacket closet for the hood (insulated hoods make a HUGE difference in warmth), the clean design, and the 800 fill (which is LESS PUFFY but just as warm as 650 fill...in this jacket. "Down sweaters," while 800 fill, do not have the same amount of down in them as the Ama Dablam. The AD is truly a JACKET--not a sweater.). It is also very light-weight, which is nice--it's like wearing a puff of warm air, and I love that I don't have to look like the Michelin Man to stay warm.
Marmot products have excellent value. They tend to be a little bit less pricey than similar products from other big name brands, and they are designed and built well.
I like to be outdoors, but I'm not an adventurer--I wear this every day around town and for doing chores (shoveling snow, home maintenance, etc).
Overall, a FABULOUS CHOICE for people who live (or visit) cold climate areas.

Lightweight Warmth
I love the warmth of the 800 fill down, including insulated hood. I have found it warm even in windy conditions. Its light weight makes it very comfortable, and easily compressible, not stiff or restricting. I am on the short side (5'6") and ordered a medium, so that I would be able to layer underneath, and I like the fit--the length for me is just right, longer than a short jacket, but not bulky and long like an expedition size parka. There aren't a lot of extra features like a liner or multiple extra pockets, but that's what keeps this jacket super light. With the cinch cords at the waist and hood, you can enclose yourself in warmth and comfort, and unless you plan on getting really wet, I think down is the best.

soft and warm
The jacket is very soft. 800 fill down is great. great fit, great hood and great zipper. It compresses so small that it fits into any pack, and that's what this jacket it all about, being warm, light and compressible. Over all, I love it!

Very nice, very warm, lightweight.
I tried this out on Mt. Adams a week and a half ago. Slept at 7200'. Very warm, compressible. Seems well made. I bought the large because I want to be able to pull my hands in to the sleeves, and want to be able to layer under if need be. It is pretty big on me, but I like it that way. I'm 5'8" 160 pounds

perfect jacket for intown or inbounds
Love the balance of this jacket for its ability to be great around town as well as to serve duty inbounds under a shell. Initially got the Gargoyle, but it was not to my liking so I returned for the black.

Perfect fit too!
I am 6' 170lbs and gambled by getting a medium because I wanted something snug and close to my body and it fits perfect. Still has enough room for 2 layers comfortably underneath and plenty of arm room for easy movement.

Better than I imagined
Just bought this for skiing in 5-20 weather with the occasional 0 when wind picks up and I couldn't be more happy with how light and warm it kept me. Wore a 100% wool baselayer and this and didn't feel a thing the whole weekend. Around town I wear it with just a t shirt underneath in 10-25 degree weather and sometimes have to open up the zipper halfway because it gets too hot. Marmot is the best! If you want something light and warm this is it. Only thing I wish was that is was also waterproof. But you can get a hardshell for that.

Me like very much
Wore this at 18 degrees and felt like I was lying in bed. I am 5' 11'' ,170 pounds with a 41 inch chest and it is a perfect fit. One base layer or light sweater is all you would ever need with this jacket south of the Pole. Also, everyone wants to touch it, so get used to it.

Nice warm light quality jacket
I have owned this jacket for only about a month so far and love it. Its super light, warm, fits well, and is worth the price. I looked at a few other jackets similar to this one but chose this over the other them. I am a size medium and went with the red color. I am 5'10 160pds and this jacket...once you give it a slight pull at the bottom to trap the warm air and throw that hoodie over your head and use the 3 adjustments to make it not only cozy as all...but feel very techy and also holds up with wind. This jacket has done well in windy conditions ranging from 5-15 mph and have worn it in temps as low as 25-35 degrees and was comfortable with only a tee underneath. Seems block enough wind so you stay warm. I would recommend this jacket.

Great Midlayer
I was looking for an additional layer for winter camping. I was very happy with the jacket. I was hoping for a little more down but overall I'm very happy. It has a nice generous cut to fit over the layers I use during the day. It packs nice and small and the hood snugs in tightly.
