Great as a layering piece. Super shiny.
March 01, 2012
Remember that scene in Back to The Future when Michael J Fox is sitting in the soda shop wearing his puffy down vest and the thug with Biff says “Hey Biff, get a load of this guy’s life preserver. Dork thinks he’s gonna drown". Wearing the black Baffin jacket makes me wonder if a similar scenario may play out. But the wisecrack would be more like "Hey check out Disco Astronaut and his shinny space coat". The Baffin is a keeper don't get me wrong. And it will certainly find a home beneath my Marmot Troll Wall and Minimalist jackets where their Gore Tex membranes will hopefully shield Biff and his ruffians from it's lacquered sheen. This coat is shiny. It glistens. When I walk down the sidewalk Stayin' Alive plays from some unidentified source. But seriously, the Baffin does what it's supposed to and that is provide a ton of warmth in a lightweight no-frills package. And honestly, I ain't afraid of Biff and company. Because if things get dicey, I can stuff the super packable Baffin into the Flux Capacitor; this thing must pack some serious jigga-watts.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, PerformanceGood fit

I am 5'9 and 160 lbs. I ordered the medium and it fits nicely with a t-shirt and a long sleeve shirt underneath. The jacket is very light so I do not feel like carrying lots of weight. I went skiing in Colorado in January in around 15 degree F with this jacket. Overall it is a nice jacket for a good price.
Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: scratch easilyGreat all round jacket

Good for urban wear or backcountry. Cut enables layering or wearing as a stand alone (not too snug or too loose). Parachute type material makes it easy to slip on under something, but more importantly gives it a slick no-frills, yet soft feel. My wife wishes they made them for women! On the downside, it isn't as water repellent as I would have hoped, but otherwise, I would heartily recommend the jacket!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, PerformanceGood idea but poor execution...

This jacket looks better online than in person. I am 6'1" at 175-180 lbs and so got the large to accomodate my arms. The first thing I noted is that the jacket is a bit too shiny and looks thin. I know this new material is supposed to be more durable, but it looks somewhat like a nice garbage bag. Next, I noticed that the jacket was huge! Not enough drawstring action to make up for the waist and the shoulders hung off me. To compare, I comfortably wear a large in the Mountain Hardwear Compressor which is very similar and I would recommend over this jacket. I considered trying the medium which might have been perfect, but it is no longer available and I'm not sure how much I really want the material anyway. Hope this helps.
Pros: Great design, Great value, Cons: size/fitSizing runs a bit large, a little more boxey than my preference.

Good looking jacket but the sizing ran a bit big, the shape of the jacket was too boxy for fitted use, and overall the jacket just didn't impress me. For my recreational and social use, I went with the Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket and it works wonders.
Great Jacket!!

Very light weight, packs small...
December 02, 2009
Overall the jacket fit great. I'm 5-9, 158 and the med. fit well. I plan on using it as a midlayer under a shell. The only goofy thing I found is the black color which I purchased is very very shiny! It's kinda odd and people seem to notice it right away. Not ugly just very unique, it had to grow on me a bit..

Quality Jacket but some minor issues
April 16, 2010
This jacket had the same quality construction you would expect from any Marmot product, good workmanship, high quality materials, etc. but I do have two small issues. I'm not real sure why everyone is going to the screened on logos. I know they are reflective but it looks much cheaper than embroidery. Secondly, the outer material of the jacket is very lightweight (whispy) able to compress well, but the inner material is a little thicker not made like the compressor from MH or a down sweater. I had to return this one.
Great layer

This jacket is a bit flashy for me but it is a great layering piece under a parka or a wet weather top. I fits large and provides plently of room to move around. The fabric seems a bit flimsy and would not not up well against a tree branch thus I recommend it under another layer
Pros: Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: Wears quicklyOverall worth every penny.

Got this on sale thanks to Altrec. I am very impressed by the look and feel of it. I have yet to take this with me on my 30 day backpacking trip, but I suspect nothing but positive results from this jacket. I would highly recommend this jacket to anyone who wants an outer-layer that is light weight, warm, compressible, and breathable. I will post my results after my trip, to see if this holds true.
super light weight a bit too shiny

The product is really well made. It is super light weight and very thin. It is great to wear as extra layer under a hard shell jacket. The only remark I have to make is that it is really very shiny. My husband likes more muted colors and I am not sure if he will wear it out in the city.
