Men's Bastione Component Jacket 5 5 9 9
Great Look with Serious Function The Bastione has a very stylish profile, especially around the collar, where it is nicely trimmed with a soft yet durable fabric that does not irritate or chafe at the neck. The pockets are well located and lined to provide very functional hand warmers. Great quality zippers adorn all openings, including the inside pocket located in the right inner layer. Perhaps it offers year-round comfort if the layers are well managed, but as a complete jacket it is VERY warm. I did not try the shell alone, but feel it would be used more as a rain barrier/wind breaker suitable for the 50-60 F temperature range. I tried the complete jacket in 40-50 F weather and found it too warm. For my comfort, it's a great jacket for the 20-40 F range. Ultimately I returned the jacket because I found it uncomfortably warm and a bit heavy for the everyday jacket I was hoping for. The quality is as good or better than any I've seen. However, I found the sizing a bit smaller than I had anticipated. I'm 5'10" and weigh around 215 and found the XL a bit confined around the arm/shoulder opening and felt a fair amount of resistance when reaching forward with both arms. This was a bit surprising to me since I normally wear a Large and have read reviews of other Marmot products as having a generous fit. I give this jacket five stars because of the impressive quality. One may have to work with the sizing and could find it disappointing for use in moderate weather conditions. December 23, 2011
Among the most versatile I had one of these in brown and liked it so much that when I needed a black jacket, I bought a second. Probably my biggest complaints with zip in jackets is the weight and how the inner jacket slides around within the outer jacket while putting the whole ensemble on and taking it off. As to weight, I find the Bastione lighter than most, in fact surprisingly light: my XL weighs 50 oz... Not bad. For the price I don't think there's anything lighter out there that insulates as well. As to the inner jacket sliding around, it's still an issue, but I have't tried a zip in where it isn't. Otherwise, my favorite features are its warmth, the fact that the hood is removable and adjustable must haves), its comfort (the inner nylon lining feels great and the collar has a super soft WIDE band that can't be beat for comfort) and the cool chocolate color of the brown one which draws approving comments every single time I wear it! time for change i recently purchased a marmot bastione jacket to replace my old obermeyer.quality was excellent.zippers were high quality and outer material is durable and quite waterproof.excellent jacket for snowmobiling and other winter outdoor activities.no need to heavily layer underneath, jacket is quite warm and very windproof.marmots sizes seem to be a better fit than most. i am 5.7" and 170 and a medium fits great.sleeves are not too long like some other mediums i have tried on.this is my first purchase from altrec. selection is great and shipping was fast. This jacket laughs at poor weather The Marmot Bastione Component Jacket fits true to size. I am 5'9", a lean 180 pounds and a large fit me just fine. There is still room underneath for a sweater without feeling too bulky. The MemBrain shell is very water-resistant and the insulated liner is warm enough to be a good alternative to down. The versatility of this jacket makes it a winner. This is a great jacket for year-round use. December 29, 2010
As billed I am a 6'1" man, size 42, fairly slim, and the medium fits me nicely. The liner looks great, and I enjoy wearing it alone. Now that it's colder, the shell adds some warmth and great wind protection. The material near the neck is very warm and repels condensation--no need for a scarf. No silly bells and whistles. Overall: versatile, attractive, well constructed. December 11, 2010
Excellent coat It is really a great coat for the winter. Waterproof shell, and the removable water resistant liner and the storm hood protect me from the cold winter. I can only wear a long-sleeve T shirts inside. I chosed the red color one which is just like the fire during the dull winter. Love it so much. No cons find so far. Again, the Altrec is always doing well in its quick shipment. Thanks so much, Altrec and Marmot. October 26, 2010
Love this coat Not only does this coat look great, but it is warm, functional and designed perfectly. I love this coat! October 5, 2010
Excellent Jacket This has become my favorite jacket to wear for all around use. The good: versatile, durable, warm, light, fits perfect, looks great and very comfortable. The bad: none. I consider Marmot one of the best. March 7, 2010
Superb all around winter jacket This jacket delivers. Many winter jackets that I checked out were made for snowboarding, and thus they were quite a bit longer and bulkier. This jacket is the perfect size and does its job when I'm walking to school in below zero temperatures. I like that the jacket has a removable inner layer that you can zip in and out. I no longer have to wear an extra layer to stay warm; I can simply throw this coat on over a cotton tee shirt and be ready for winter's worse. It did at times get a little breezy in my jacket, but all I had to do was pull the cords on the sides of my coat to close the opening around my waist and seal out the wind. I would recommend this coat to anyone looking for an all around winter jacket for everyday use. January 7, 2010
