Great Jacket
February 24, 2011

I have been using this jacket during hiking. Gravity jacket is so good, When I wear a base layer and a mid layer under this jacket is warm enough to hike in freezing temperature. It is breathable and gives you good temperature management. I bought XL size because only this one was available this time in my favorite color. This size for me could be L, but XL is not that big if you wear mid layer. I am 6.00ft tall and 183 pounds. Good product made with good quality.

High Quality Jacket
January 05, 2011

My first Marmot product and impressed with the quality of materials and assembly. I have problems with the fit. I am 5'8", 160 lb w/ an athletic build; the M should fit properly. Unfortunately, the M is designed for a slender build through the hips and under arms (arm pits). The sleeves are very long which is not a huge problem if it did not have a compressed fit. More than a t shirt base layer is uncomfortable for me. The zipped collar is a bit loose. I know a large would not work. I am contemplating returning it for the Marmot Sharp Point, if I can confirm its fit or TNF Apex Bionic with its standard fit. Again, it is a high quality product and cut for a slender build.

Great and Stylish Jacket
January 04, 2011

This is a very stylist jacket. Reminds me of a motorcycle jacket but fits a little loose. I am 5'10" 150 lbs. with an athletic build. The wind-stopper is awesome if you live or use it in windy areas. This jacket is very functional and light weight. Works as a great outer layer and when is rains I wear my Marmot alpinist 3 hard shell over top. Can't go wrong buying this jacket!

December 16, 2011

I just received my Mens LARGE Gravity jacket and tried it on with various layers under and with a shell over it. I am 5'11" aprox. 190 lbs. Just slightly out of shape around the "love handle" area. The sleeve length was fine and to use without multiple layers is not too big. I then checked out the fit with layers; Used a lightweight skin layer, a light polyester mid-layer under a thin morano wool vest and a full medium fleece under the Marmot Gravity large jacket. Works well, a little snug but not to tight. Have not been out (early december) but i believe it will work well on a cold mornings with high temps on low 20 degree days.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost

Marmot Gravity Jacket
October 27, 2009

This jacket is great! It isn't rain resistant, but very close. I love the extra big collar that blocks wind and allows for a sweatshirt or other layer underneath. If I had to go back I would definitely buy it again.

The clothes make the man.
October 05, 2009

This jacket smells of cool, looks beyond trendy, and is way past technical. Fit is loose & snug at the same time. With the disappearing hand pockets, the uber chic sleeve pocket, this jacket wins. Velcro wrist, super water resistant, mock-turtle collar; combine this with a nice base layer or two and you rule. Oh, I forgot to mention the inside chest pocket for a brandy flask; but you all knew what that was for anyway. ;) XPHALCON

Great waterproof/windproof shell
November 12, 2011

I've already worn this in snow and wind and it did the job. The shell would make a good mid-level base layer on a frigid day or a great outer layer in the Spring.

Good product, but...
March 08, 2011

I think this is a very good and high quality product. the only issue is the fit around the bottom and the underarms is a little tighter than I would like. If the length of jacket was an inch or 2 shorter, would be perfect, but still a great high quality jacket. I am 5'9 160lbs. small is almost perfect aside from above and medium is far too big. I choose to stick with size small.

Great Jacket
January 09, 2011

This is my first soft shell jacket and I must say I love it! I did a lot of research and settled on the Marmot Gravity and I am sure glad I did. It fits great, looks great, and so far has proved itself to be very wind resistant and warm. I debated the size for a while but decided to go with a large and I am glad I did. Enough room to have an under layer if needed but not too loose without one. For reference, I am 5'10" 175lbs.

Great Jacket
January 27, 2013

I'm 6'5" and 240. I'm certainly not skinny or fat, just solid all over. I got the XXL and it fits great. It's one of the few jackets that I own (not specifically purchased as tall) that are actually long enough in the sleeves and waist/over all length. Looks great and good for multiple seasons.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Cons: Cost, would be tight if i were 10-15lbs heavier

I recently purchased the Gravity jacket for a trip. The weather was high teens in the day, 10F at night, with winds 10-20 (windchill 0-10F). I wore a base layer, a fleece, and this jacket and was fine the whole time (light to moderate exercise). The size is true (bougth a L) due to the angel wing movement (5'11, 190, normally wear a L to XL). I had two layers underneath and had no problems. I even tried with a Mountain Hardware Windstopper and it fit well underneath. I did not subject the jacket to wet weather, so I can't speak to that, but the wind/cold/snow was not a factor. The only thing I wish it had is a hood, but I can deal with that. It's very good-looking, so you could wear on the slopes or in town.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: no hood

Marmot's drops another winner in Gravity!
December 29, 2011

I just received this jacket from the rockstars at Altrec on 12/23/2011. On 12/24 I wore it for the first time to the Patriots/Dolphins game in Foxboro, MA. I was working as a photo runner for The Associated Press. This job entails standing next to a photographer and waiting for him to hand me his memory card which I then run, literally, into the press room inside Gillette Stadium. Then back outside for more standing. It was cold. Mid-20's with a light breeze. The Gravity was perfect for the conditions. Beneath it I wore a Marmot lightweight stretch top, then a North Face 1/2 zip mid-weight, then a fleece pullover, then a Marmot Leadville (I believe, it's old) Windstopper lightweight Fleece. While standing I was comfortable. Not living room warm, but comfortable. It did a nice job of blocking out the chill. Pit zips would have been nice as once I started running things warmed up a bit. But the cotton-less layers meant sweating was minimal and wicked away. If I were say a lift operator I probably would have wanted something more substantial as my outer layer. But that is not what this jacket is trying to be. I love the fit of the Gravity. When it's fully zipped, it's snug at the base and top. This helps hold in the warmth. The arms and main body have a taper and fit nicely over a midweight layer. My Pats game layering did make for a rather snug fit. But the Gravity has a way of stretching over whatever you pile beneath it. What level of Michelin Man you achieve is up to you. But I think the Gravity works best with a mid-weight top and maybe a vest. If you're looking for a roomy, boxy jacket that you can wear over a thick hooded sweatshirt and then zip a puppy up in then look elsewhere. I own about 10 Marmot products from Precip pants to shells to fleece jackets. It's all I buy and shop for. I bought the Gravity to replace my older Marmot Adamant jacket (warmest jacket ever) and I couldn't be happier. If Sir Isaac Newton were alive today he'd be wearing a Gravity. And being a man of intelligence, he'd order it from Altrec.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, it's a marmot, Cons: no outside vertical chest pocket

I've had this jacket for a couple of months now...fits true to size and is very comfortable. As always, great buying experience from Altrec.

Excellent Choice

Wore this jacket to the San Gabriel Mts. this weekend. Nice for those chilly mornings and late evenings. Excellent water resistance for those misty mornings on the trail.

Gravity Defying Light Shell!
March 19, 2009

Marmot fits snug, so I got a XL instead of my norm L, to allow Fleece inner layer. Fabric is soft and stretchy kinda like wonder bras, but breathable and water resistant. Washed in NikWax to freshen up new garmet smell and add water proofing.

excellent fit!
April 06, 2010

this jacket fits great i got the xl. i am 6'2" tall/225lbs. athletic build. long arms. did i say this jacket fits great? Best in Class. Only 1 minor drawback...a little hard to get into with long sleeve t. fleece lining won't let t-sleeves slide in easily. the fix? wear short sleeves.

Great fit and Sharp looking
March 06, 2009

I like this jacket a lot; lays well even on my 37" waistline. Bought a size up(XL) from my normal(L), and it was the perfect solution. My only negative comment is the slightly musty odor, due presumably to the weatherproofing material. Otherwise, a great buy.

Marmot M1 Men's Gravity Jacket
January 13, 2011

I bought this for my husband not knowing how it would fit. It was absolutely perfect, best fit ever!! He's been wering a heavy 3/4 Pea coat, but now wears his Marmot for Urban days in the cold because it is so light weight, stylish (awesome tailor form fitting/wrinkle free), and keeps him very warm. Wind resistent yes, breatheable yes - you can even jump in the car unzip and not have to take this jacket off - Wow! Great buy for the money!!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value, looks awesome!!

I have a few softshells and the quality from Marmot is second to none. Cuts the wind, keeps you warm with flexible material. It's nice comfortable fit & can wear a fleece underneath, but the arms are a little long. I could've gone with the S but I knew I would be layering for hikes, camping & snowboarding. Love the jacket and its been holding up great through some rough wear and tear.

Pros: Great design, Build quality

March 20, 2011

This jacket is one extremely well made, comfortable jacket. From the stretchy, yet tough exterior to the warmth of the lining, to the perfectly added and very useful details...I love this jacket. I have found good functionality in the details such as the pockets having a nice warm lining, to the waist pullstrings in those pockets, to the cuff closures, to the well made zippers, to the excellent fit and materials. I have worn it in a very windy rainstorm and found it to be just perfect. I was warm, I was dry, I felt no wind (amazing) and I didn't have but a light fleece layer underneath. I highly recommend this jacket.

Great look and feel to this jacket. I purchased the XXL with intention to wear a 1/4zip pullover beneath.

The Gravity jacket
October 05, 2009

I have 2 other medium size Marmot softshells, the Sharp Point and the Super Hero. The Gravity is the most "heavyweight" of the 3 and really does have the best fit. Nice freedom of movement, nice pockets, zip up to the chin neckline, and velcro cuffs make this jacket an ABSOLUTE steal for the price (by comparison to the other 2). I would have gotten only the Gravity had I know all this prior.

Great jacket for any outdoor activity
June 10, 2009

I bought this jacket last winter and have really enjoyed it. It obviously is a shell, so you need to layer it with something in order to stay warm. It has a nice, trim fit.
