Not an improvement over the old model
August 08, 2011

I love Marmot gear and I have last year's Kingpin Jacket which I really like but liked the styling of the new model for Fall 2011. The styling is awesome but hte softshell material isn't as soft as last years model and the new water resistant zipper snags a little. The quality and craftmanship is great but I like the old better.

Excellent Quality, Wrong Fit
January 04, 2011

Marmot makes excellent gear - some of their jackets I've used for over 5 years. While this jacket lives up to the name, the fit is a bit 'strange'. I bought this softshell for a specific reason- climbing, ice climbing, and mountaineering, with the expectation of water repellency, breathability, and durability (especially abrasion resistance). While it meets all those needs the fit doesn't work for me. I'm 5'9", 165, slim, and bought a medium- the jacket is slightly too long but the chest is too tight and the hood doesn't seem made for a helmet. The reason I call the fit 'strange' is that I have a Marmot hardshell, also a medium, that is much roomier - almost too big. I also ordered the Patagonia Ascensionist Jacket for comparison, medium also, and it fits perfectly. If this jacket fits you, you will be one happy camper.

Great Jacket
January 08, 2009

Excellent jacket that is almost perfect. Light weight and packs easily into my backpack. I have had the jacket for about 2 months now. Jacket keeps me very warm and the pit zips are a nice touch. I haven't tested it out in the rain so I don't know how water proof the jacket is. One of the only cons in my oppinion is that they should've added a pocket on one of the arms. Overall a great jacket that is light weight and keeps you warm.
