Very pleased.
June 21, 2011

I haven't worn this in a sustained hard rain, or with a pack, so I've only given it an average for water repellency, but I suspect its a solid 4. It has worked perfectly in its lesser challenges so far. I haven't had it long enough to speak to durability. Aesthetically I like it alot except for the light colored liner - I got black and it contrasts too much to my eye (though I'm getting over it). Well designed and tailored. The large fits quite loosely for me (6' 172lb), though I consider that a good thing as I can wear it over a fleece. Decent ventilation. *Has pit zips* Do yourself a favor and don't buy a raincoat without pit zips. As I said, very pleased.

Perfect jacket!!
October 05, 2010

This is a perfect jacket for climbers! Excellent!! I have used this jacket for a while and it's incredible how solid and comfortable the jacket is. It's a perfect purchase!! It's a jacket with great value. So go ahead, you know what to do!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value, Cons: Cost

highly recommend
June 24, 2008

Light, durable, comfortable and fit by size!!! Highly recommend!

Great quality
October 22, 2009

It does what it was intended to do. It's a little stiffer than I had expected, but doesn't hamper movement. It doesn't ride up like most other jackets, so nothing gets exposed. The quality is great and it feels durable. I am 5'9" 155 lbs and medium fits me.

Lightweight rain jacket
December 16, 2009

Marmot's Oracle is a lightweight wind/rain jacket. It folds up very small and can be packed into a briefcase when not in use. The fabric is a little thicker and appears more durable than the lightest weight windbreaker style jackets, but it nowhere near as thick or durable as jacket you would use for skiing or heavy winter use. It would be a great commuter jacket in the spring and fall, which is how I intend to use it.

great, light and really waterproof
June 04, 2009

I bought this for my husband. He takes the train and has a long walk between the train and home/office. This jacket works very well for his needs. When he doesn't need it he can easily fold it up and shove in his bag. It is really waterproof unlike the old one that he had.

feels good!
February 25, 2013

I love this jacket! Usually this kind of water proof jacket's inner feels like nylonish and uncomfortable, but Oracle uses really smooth inner fabric that feels really good.

Great rain gear
May 05, 2009

This jacket is absolutely fantastic. It is very comfortable and light. The detachable hood feature is really nice. The jacket description does not mention breathability, but the fabric is very breathable.

Very Breathable!
April 13, 2010

It was cool and rainy when I wore my Oracle jacket for a long hike with my dogs. The jacket kept me completely dry in moderate rain and I remained comfortable even at a moderate pace. This is a very light, easily packed and well made jacket.

Just right
February 21, 2009

This jacket fits the bill for light, packable, comfortable rain/wind gear. Quality materials and construction, like all Marmot products I have purchased. I've only worn it in a light rain so far, but I was out in it most of the day and stayed dry. The zip-off hood functions well. Enough room for a fleece or softshell, but if you really want to layer up, I'd go a size bigger... or get a mountaineering shell instead. It doesn't get 5 stars until it makes through a real test on the trail.

An excellent jacket
April 12, 2010

Had this jacket close to a year now and I've been very happy with this purchase. Used as a shell or on its own, it's super comfortable and has yet to show any signs of wear and tear. It's a little bit heavier than some of the other rain gear, but this makes it great as a windbreaker.

Above Average
March 09, 2010

I got this because i really like the Marmot gear i have and it seems to fit me better than other brands(im 6-0, maybe 6-1, 185, and i got the large). I also dont necessarily like a hood, so the fact that it zippers off was something i sought, and is unusual these days for rain jackets. Overall, no complaints; its light, breathable, works, and fits.

great jacket
March 06, 2009

Stumbled onto Altrec.com and purchased the Marmot Oracle jacket. Great jacket!!It has kept me dry in very wet conditions. I am also very please with shopping on Altrec.com. I will definetly shop here again.

Excellent quality - met expectations
October 06, 2009

This Marmot jacket met the specifics of what I was looking for: high quality, waterproof, breathable and lightweight, with a detachable hood. Shipping was prompt. I expect to get lots of use out of this item.

Light Enough
October 10, 2009

Got it, and feel very light after pulling on. And design and tailor is also good, I prefer it instead of Northface or other brands. Hope you have more photos in the web-site to have more preview.

I bought 2 of these last spring when they were on sale for 80 bucks. Man I should have bought 5 of them. Very water resistant and light. Perfect for summer rainy summer days. It also is a great wind breaker. Put it on over a fleece and tahdah!!!

Excellent Jacket
February 18, 2013

This jacket is very lightweight, and has a nice place to secure and hide the hood when it is not in use. The jacket is true to size, and has a very nice zipper. It maybe isn't quite as waterproof as GoreTex, but so far, I haven't felt any wetness seeping though the fabric. For the cost, it is absolutely worth it. I would definitely order it again, and would recommend it to my friends

Great new Jacket!
November 13, 2010

I got this jacket after my other "waterproof" jacket left me soaked for the last time. So far the jacket has performed great. I stood thru a rainstorm when I first got it just to make sure Marmot was telling the truth; they did. Water simply won't get it wet. Also this jacket is surprisingly light. At first I thought it seemed too thin, but it does the job of keeping any wind out. It packs small since it is so light; it's about the size of a paper towel roll when packed. The only con I've found, is that the main zipper sometimes sticks a little. Which is a minor annoyance. If it wasn't for that, I would give it 5 stars. I am 6'1", 170 lbs and got a Large in Cayenne/Gargoyle; it fits perfect. I would buy it again.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Great value, Cons: sticky zipper

Great purchase
February 10, 2012

This is a great jacket. I love the fit and all the great features. I haven't been able to test in a terrential downpour but with the taped seams and sench cords I'm sure that I will be cozy and dry. Marmot ROCKS!

Pros: fit, features, blocks wind

Good fit and well constructed
February 11, 2012

The jacket fits well and apears well constructed. All zippers, tabs. etc work properly. I am 6' and 180 lbs and the large fit perfectly. I have not had an opportunit to trial it in the rain.

One of the best!
February 27, 2009

Picked one of these up at one of my local shops at a half off sale and it has since become one of my favorite jackets for wet weather. Its extremely light, perfectly fitted and extremely comfortable. I do a lot of storm chasing so these jackets are a god send during the bad storms. One of these with an OR hat and a nice pair of pants and your golden. You'll come home as dry as you left.

The best fit with the right weight
August 25, 2011

I have researched several comparison jackets. I have found the Oracle to have the best true fit for me among the others. I also found the weight to be just right for fall hikes in cold rain.

Pros: waterproof, Cons: price

The most breathable rain jacket I've had.
May 27, 2009

The Oracle is easily the most breathable rain jacket I've owned. Through out the years I have tried several different rain jackets and have allways ended up wet, if not from the rain soaking through, then from condensation build up inside the jacket. The Oracle was the solution for me. The build quality seems to be very good. Even the hood is functional and adjusts enough that it has little efffect on my sight lines.

Marmot Oracle Jacket Comes Through
March 09, 2011

I was able to give the Oracle the rain and wind test right away and I came back soaked.....from my thighs to my feet. The jacket performed flawlessly! The day after I received my jacket we had down pouring rain with high winds and not a drop got through. The hood and brim keep the rain out of my eyes while allowing good vision as well. What impressed me the most was that I didn't overheat. I can't speak of it's durability yet, but we're off to a great start, highly recommended!

A Flood couldnt get me wet in this jacket
February 04, 2012

I have worn this jacket in the pouring rain for the past 3 days and i havent had a drop of rain touch me. The jacket is warm, breathable with the pit zips and waterproof all the way though. I have a couple other rain coats and dont even think about putting them on because I love this jacket so much. Buy this jacket now, unless you want to get wet.

Pros: warm and comfy, Cons: can get warm at times
