Perfect Oregon Coast jacket
I purchased this jacket for my husband. He is very particular about his rain gear, and this jacket has met his high standards. We live on the Oregon Coast, and good rain gear is essential. This jacket not only looks great, but is very functional for heavy rain and strong winds.
We were also impressed by the great service and quick delivery from Altrec.

Great lightweight rain jacket
A great deal for that price. My fiancee & I used it for traveling through rainy Washington State incl. Olympic National Park and Mt. Rainier.
The jacket is completely windproof and waterproof and also very lightweight. The shell is very thin and light. Cold wind blowing will transfer that cold to you fast because the layer is thin, but windproof. I'd recommend a layer in case it gets cold (e.g. fleece) underneath.
At higher temps the water/windproof design leads to limited breathability. So it could be that you would become hot. The zippers under the arm pits may help to acclimatize under warm conditions. However, I saw the same issue with my more expensive North Face GORTEX jacket. So it is not a problem of the Marmot shell material rather then the general problem of water/windproof jackets.
If you look for a thin and especially lightweight jacket which is waterproof then don't hesitate to buy one of these.

BEST LIGHTWEIGHT JACKET
First of all, it has the quality of all Marmot products. It is a very lightweight jacket, the fit is true to size, for example I use a Small size in everything and I got the Small and this one fits me very well, I could still use a fleece or a softshell base layer without sacrificing the range of motion in the arms. The breathability and durability are excellent, it is water resistant, not waterproof, because it is a very lightweight jacket, not designed to be a bombproof jacket. I bought this jacket because It has excellents features and it has his own stow pocket, it has a great packability, it is a very important point, I always take it wherever I am going.
You could not go wrong with it.

Good Jacket
This is a very good rain jacket. It is great for keeping you dry when raining at moderate intensities. If planning on wearing warm weather gear underneath go one size larger than you would think.

Great Coat
Keeps the water out and is very comfortable. As a previous reviewer said, the jacket could be more breathable. However, that is only a minor issue. Overall, I am extremely happy with this jacket at this price.

Excellent Waterproof jacket
I had a Precip jacket for several years, but then lost it, so I bought a new one in Aug. 2011 to replace it. On the first day I wore the new jacket, I went to an outdoor event at which it started downpouring heavy rain. I stayed outside to see how the new jacket would work, and I was dry as a bone! The new model of the Precip seems to be much more waterproof than the prior model, and it does an excellent job of cutting the wind as well. For under $100, its hard to see how you could go wrong with this jacket. I use this as my regular jacket in the fall (as a windbreaker) and then use it for some of the wintertime with a soft shell underneath it. I also use this as a hard shell for climbing. Another nice feature of the jacket is that it has a hood that rolls up into the collar of the jacket, rather than just hanging off of the back. I strongly recommend this rain/wind jacket.

Best Rain jacket under $100
So I used this jacket for a 2 week trip in Europe and while out in Obed, TN for a climbing trip and so far it has not let me down.
-Fit quality is very good and quite comfortable.
-It does block wind very well but if is colder outside I do recommend another layer as the cold will slice through it pretty easily.
-As for water protection, does the job extremely well. Kept me very dry.
-One of my favorite features are the pockets. They are kept a bit higher so if your hiking with a backpack with hipbelts, the pockets are right above them so you can still keep your hands warm :).
- Breathability is very good for the price range but still not as good as Gore-Tex. if it is hot outside with no breeze, it will get warm quick.
For the price it is a no brainer. Recommend to anyone looking for the best price and performance combo rain jacket.

This rain jacket is recess proof
Although I've never been in a hurricane, I can say that this jacket stands up to Montana recess duty in the wind and rain.
It also does a great job of keeping a person dry at Montana track meets in the spring....which sometimes means the track has to be snow plowed before the cold rain starts to fall for a track day of 45 degrees! I love this jacket and I think you will too.

Luvin my Men's Precip Jacket
I bought this jacket as an outer layer to break the wind and to keep my head and upper body dry in rainy conditions. It is perfect for keeping me dry and cutting the wind. It is surprising to me that a product can be so lightweight yet so strong. It has features such as the hood and underarm zips that really make it a valued purchase. Go getchya one.

Great Jacket
I love this Jacket. This is the second Precip Jacket that I had. I lost the first one while traveling. I like the jacket so much, I bought a replacement.
March 17, 2011
Great quality, I ordered XXL , as I am 225 lbs. The fit gives me a lot of room to wear a heavy sweater underneath. The color I ordered was red and it looked good.
March 17, 2011
Couldn't ask for better
Purchased PreCip pants and jackets for our trip to Alaska. 7 days of kayaking in the rain and cold of Prince William Sound. Very comfortable when paddling and at campsite; stayed completely dry; good ventalition; and very durable. We thought it would be ripped to shreds the way we went through the brush around our campsites, but it looks as good a new (who needs gaiters?!).
We use the outfits as a windbreaker. Works well even in 20-30 mph gusts.

Best Purchase Ever
This jacket is a necessity for any college student! Whatever we can do to keep our kids dry and healthy while away at college shlepping from one class to the next. Great value for this product.
December 21, 2010
I would recommend the marmot precip jacket to anyone who is lookig for a lightweight, functioinal three season jacket. One might be a little concerned with the durability ofthe jacket it tough situations, but the weight and packability of the jacket make it a great value. Another product that lives up to the marmot name.

Good piece to always have around
Everyone going outdoors should have one of these, or something like it. Nice to always throw in the pack - pretty durable, pretty waterproof, pretty windproof, sorta breathable (use the pit zips), good price. The best part is that you can get these in Long sizing, which really helps for taller folks. Then you don't get the sleeves riding up your arms when raising them, like when rock climbing.
December 1, 2010
great value
Performed as advertised, my wife and I each have one and are quite satisfied.
November 23, 2010
Does the job at a great price
I used this in driving 50 mph wind and rain during an offseason climb up Mt. Fuji - worked great. I was bone-dry after 8 hours in this miserable weather.
Tends to be a little large, but you need to account for what layers you are wearing under it. I'm 5'11, 150 lb got a medium and it was a little loose for me
November 19, 2010
Lots to Like
One of the few waterproof jackets around that's available in a tall fit.
Being tall I'm used to buying up a size to make sure I get the length - you definitely don't need to do that with this jacket as it's quite a loose fit. Really light and packable, if you're used to multi-layer waterproofs this may feel flimsy at first but I guess that's because it's light and packable! Not worn it in really heavy rain yet but has handled the light-medium stuff no problem. Worn it for cycling a couple of times and it seems to breathe OK although the loose fit means it offers a a fair amount of wind resistance, especially if I open the pit zips. The arrangement for folding the hood isn't particularly sophisticated but is handy nonetheless and consistent with the light-and-simple philosophy of this jacket. Overall I like it a lot and think I'll get another in a different colour.

mens precip
appears well made, but i wonder how well it will hold up. my previous expeience has always been with gore-tex, so this feels "slight" by comparison. mesh pockets never bode well in my experience-they're prone to snagging (then tearing). seams all taped is a nice touch and i like being able to roll the hood up rather than having it hang down my back.

Another Marmot Rain Jacket in the family closet
This is by far a WINNER! Everyone in the family has one and it is true to size, comfort, wind and rain-proof. The jacket is available in a color for any mood or season; folds and packs well and it is a necessity in the traveler's gear bag.
September 29, 2010
Hood wont stay put
The hood is so roomy it wont stay put. Even casual walking with no wind...the hood flops up and down on my head. Forget about it when its windy. Wish there was drawstrings. Other than that its light, has great ventilation and has kept me dry in a downpour.

My favorite outdoor jacket-Marmot sets the industy standard
This preCip jacket is my third one I have purchased over the past 4 years. My family members seem to have claimed the other jackets.Since I have several pairs of Marmot men's PreCip pants,I never have to worry about the weather conditions outside. The jacket and the pants are constructed of the highest quality of materials and you know Marmot stands behind it products. Also,Altrec.com provides its customer with the total line of Marmot products and their website provides a totally updated description of new items. I feel it is important to mention the fact that the PreCip line is an excellent top layer of protection from the elements. When target shooting or hunting in the Fall,Winter & Sping I can alway add layers under the jacket. The attached hood provides plenty of room for a cap or bandero.

Very nice jacket
No complaints at all. I am 6'1" and weigh 230. XL fit great. Well made, high quality.

Excellent light weight waterproof jacket
Right out of the box I knew this jacket was a winner, but I decided to test it out anyway- by wearing it in the shower. The water rolled right off and the jacket was dry instantly. I have since used it under a variety of circumstances including 2 NY Nor'easters and each time it kept me and my electronic equipment completely dry, even after catastrophic umbrella failure. I've worn it on top of sweaters and t-shirts and it works great for both. I've worn it on my mountain bike and it kept me comfortable. I frequently roll it up tight and put it in my backpack just in case and it has come in quite handy (e.g. nor'easter #2). Just an awesome jacket. Only quibble is that I can't get the hood to roll neatly into the collar.
April 15, 2010
Great jacket - good tall fit
Great jacket, simple design and keeps you dry in bad weather. I'm a tall guy and this jacket fits perfectly.
April 13, 2010
great jacket
I bought one for my wife and me and we both love it! While it is very lightweight, it protects you from the rain with no problem. I am now a Marmot fan!
April 9, 2010
Great jacket; great price
Marrot's PreCip jacket has it all; chest pockets and pit zips and an unbeatable price. Unlike many lightweight rain jackets, it is sized to fit over a fleece or lightweight down jacket. There are no seams on the shoulders that will come apart or leak from the pressure of a pack. It is light enough to be included in my lightweight backpacking kit. The PreCip breathable/waterproof membrane does the job at half the price of Goretex. I especially love the design of the hood that folds into a collar.
March 14, 2010
Great jacket great price
Hiking in a rain shower or going to work with the sun very comfortable jacket.
March 9, 2010
Fine for the price
It's VERY light and packable, and fits well. Sometimes in the rain I feel a bit clammy inside, but I don't really have any other rain jackets to compare it to...
March 2, 2010
Great in Windy Weather
I've used this jacket out in low 40's windy weather. I was surprised how it kept me warm, even thought I was wearing just a t-shirt beneath the Precip Jacket. Plus the hood folds into the back collar.
February 17, 2010
Excellent product.
Nice fit and very durable. This is always a component of my travel bag as it's lightweight, compact, and performs very well.
January 27, 2010
light rain jacket
Just right for Florida summer weather.
January 26, 2010
Great jacket!
Great lightweight rain/wind jacket. Best price we found on the jacket and we received it pretty quickly. Will definitely order from here again!
January 8, 2010
Great Travel Jacket
If you need to pack light, this is a great jacket for you. It folds up small enough that you never regret bringing it, even if every day is sunny. The hood is a nice touch. Blocks the wind enough to keep you cozy if worn over a sweater. I haven't worn this jacket regularly, so I cannot attest to its durability.
January 5, 2010
Awesome Jacket
I gave this jacket to my boyfriend for Christmas. He loves it. Although it is not insulated, he says that he is still pretty warm in it. It looks great and will definitely serve its purpose. It's a mild, rainy New England day and he just wore it out the door to surf!
December 27, 2009
Exactly what I was looking for
Not too bulky. Not too heavy. Perfect for a rainy day around town or on a hike. I'm constantly running around and my heavier Marmot was too much - it always felt like overkill and left me sweating unnecessarily. This jacket provides the perfect solution! It'll be my go-to jacket from now on!
December 7, 2009
Just what I was looking for
I was looking for the same jacket that my husband has for a Christmas gift for my son and this was such a great price I couldn't pass it up.

Great Jacket - passed the shower test
Right when I got this jacket I put it on over a long sleeve t-shirt and jumped in the shower with cold water running (hot water would not be fair b/c the jacket is designed to allow body moisture to escape and the hot water or steam might have have passed through). Not a drop of water made it to my t-shirt over a ten minute period of testing the hood, back, front zipper, and arms. I made walking movements as if on the trails, and the seams held the water out like a champ. There are not many rains that I see on the east coast that amount to that much water. I got the solid cayenne color so nobody would miss me in the woods, especially hunters, and during college football season, I get to wear it to rainy Tennessee games without the chance of being in visitor colors. I had another jacket determined to be comparable to the precip(by a company named after a directional side of a mountain, that you would wear if you were on a "venture") that shed water just as well, but this jacket is much lighter and seems to compress much easier for packing. The first jacket was stolen from me while I left it on the back of a chair, but if there was ever a fortunate time to lose a jacket, this was it because I found the precip. I have become a Marmot fan over time because of the quality of their products, and it is getting to where I look to Marmot first for my rec gear needs. Good job on the precip, guys. I heard from other reviews that the older version of the precip may have had some problems, but I'm pretty sure Marmot has fixed those issues with this jacket. It has inner mesh pockets, outer hand pockets, a hood draw-cord, and an overlapping-Velcro reinforced front zipper. And no, I do not work for Marmot. I am just becoming a huge fan. Though, they should pay me because it is getting to where if you see me out, I look like a living Marmot advertisement. Hope this review helps with your decision, as I read through many of the same in making mine.
November 15, 2009
quality jacket, minimal price
Went backpacking in Virginia' Shenandoah Valley (one of the most beautiful places ever) this past weekend and this jacket passed the test as it poured like crazy for several hours and not a drop of water made it through to any of my other layers. Jacket is very breathable and you can hide the hood when it's not pouring. Very happy with this jacket...and as always, the service from Altrec.
October 26, 2009
Provides good protection in a lightweight package
The Precip is lightweight, packable, and doubles as a great wind/waterproof shell over an insulating coat. I have been using mine for less than a year, but I have suffered no leaks even in extended periods of rain. The jacket is comfortable and breathes well and the hood closes securely around my face.
October 21, 2009
Best of all jackets !
I am delighted with my Marmot jacket. It stylish and very well made. I have been using it for my around the town gear. The best recommendation I can make is that I plan to purchase another one very soon.
October 17, 2009
Great
True to size, keeps me dry in even steady rain. Will buy another for my girlfriend.
October 17, 2009
Portable jacket that leaves you dry
Rugged. Comfortable. Weighs as much as a handful of tissue. Not sure how it would hold up in a full gale, but has kept my dry in light rain. And Altrec's delivery was on the mark.
September 4, 2009
Great light weight rain cover.
If you can get by the color (weird green on sale), you won't get wet. Very lightweight, exceptionally comfortable, and a good value on sale.
August 11, 2009
Nice Jacket
I've had this jacket over a year now. It has held up well on numerous back backing trips. It fits well, keeps you dry in the rain, & functions as an excellent wind breaker with a fleece jacket underneath. I'm very happy with this jacket.
June 16, 2009
VERY PLEASED!
Light-weight. Breathable. Totally waterproof. Everything I was looking for in a rain jacket for my husband who works outdoors daily. Highly recommended!
June 10, 2009
excellent
I am travelling internationally and wanted a lightweight rain jacket. It packs well and performs as advertised. I especially like the air vents to allow air to circulate while wearing this jacket.
June 1, 2009
The best rain jacket out there!
I've used this jacket for years - it's light, easily packable, and does exactly what it's supposed to do - keep you dry in nasty weather. I've bought several for family as gifts as well. My only complaint is that I'm 6'2", and it's a tad short. But this is the best value rain shell on the market, in my opinion.
May 23, 2009
Great Rain Shell
KEEPS YOU DRY - PERIOD. Light weight and packable. Loose enough to fit over fleece but not to large to wear over just a shirt. On the "could be better" side - I would like inside pockets and the Velcro strips on the zipper rain flap snag a lot of things - sort of annoying, but can overlook this because of the great performance in wet weather.
May 16, 2009
Are you kidding?
So I don't know why others have rated this a 5, i live in Oregon where it rains constantly, and the precip simply doesn't work longer than about 30 minutes in the rain, especially after a few weeks of wear. I have 3 friends with the same jacket with similar results.
May 13, 2009
Lightweight and works great!
I bought this lightweight shell to stay dry on an upcoming month-long hike and have been taking every opportunity to test it since it arrived on my doorstep. Weather has been rainy the past few weeks in Chicago and I've gotten the chance to see how this great jacket works in light rain as well as an awful downpour. I was surprised that even in the worst weather, it kept me completely dry with no leak-through. It also layers well with my Marmot fleece for good wind protection and warmth. The feature I enjoy most on this jacket is the roll-up hood. I don't like walking around in a hooded jacket when I'm not wearing the hood and having the ability to essentially turn this into a jacket without a hood when I'm not using it gives it extra points. When I do need the hood, I don't even have to remove the jacket to unroll it - Accessibly velcro strap is reachable while I still have the jacket on! Great buy at the price!
May 11, 2009
perfect travel jacket
For anyone who travels a lot and needs that extra backup layer packed away, this jacket is perfect! It's extremely light weight and compactable, and very well made with waterproofing and a fit that would satisfy anyone looking for a solid all-around rain jacket.
May 10, 2009
Great Jacket
Very light weight, excellent quality. It's lightweight, easy to pack away and best of all, it keeps you dry!
May 5, 2009
soft, light and totally waterproof- great jacket.
Excellent fabric and design. Only shortcoming - no interior pockets.
April 29, 2009
Incredible shell
Light-weight and well ventilated. The fit and cut is as described, great range of movement and sizing is on the mark. Layers well without binding at elbows and shoulders. I highly recommend this to anyone playing in the elements.
April 13, 2009
the best Jacket
It is perfect for the rain. It fits perfect for my needs. Marmot is an excellent brand.
April 8, 2009

March 3, 2009
Great Jacket!!
Top-shelf quality at a great price!! Extremely lightweight, packable and breathable. Cut roomy enough for layering without buying a larger size than is needed.
December 29, 2008
Great all-around jacket.
Kept me perfectly dry on recent trip to 3 cities in rainy Northwest US. Pit vents kept me from getting too warm. Easy to pack and stuff it into laptop bag. Just as good for weekend hike or streets of Seattle.
November 28, 2008
Excellent Jacket
This is a great light weight jacket for rainy days on the trail. You can't beat the price also. It is very well made. Love It.
November 24, 2008
Great jacket

Very light weight, excellent quality, fits wonderful, fully water proof and breathable.
August 10, 2008
Just what I was looking for.
I needed a jacket for backpacking, hiking and fishing. This jacket fits all of those requirements. It's lightweight, easy to pack away and best of all, it keeps you dry!
May 30, 2008
the Precip is fantastic
I bought the marmot precip and have favorable feelings towards it. i like that it offers a full range of motion in the arms. the precip gets two thumbs up.
May 22, 2008
Great all around jacket
Bought mainly for wearing to work or knocking about town but also for some day hiking and outdoor activities. Jacket fits great. I bought a large and usually have to look for tall sizes but this one fit perfectly. It is very lightweight. No problems at all.
April 13, 2008
Rugged, packable, waterproof, breathable
I just got back from a trip in Ozark wilderness bushwhacking for 3 days with rain everyday and feel like I can give a good review of this product. Jacket performed great and exceeded my expectations. It was snagged on a number of sharp branches and never tore unlike my icebreaker shirt I had on underneath. Never let rain through and the pit-zips are great. Really easy to clean if it gets muddy, just dunk it in a stream and hang it up and dries quickly. Would recommend this product.
March 31, 2008
Fantastic jacket
I bought this jacket for my husband for his birthday and he hasn't stopped wearing it. He loves that it is lightweight, waterproof and he can fit an additional layer under it.
March 27, 2008
Great Value!
I have been happy with other Marmot purchases in the past and this Precip Jacket is no exception. The quality is top notch and the jacket is thankfully light in weight, designed well and priced right. I was a bit concerned about the Dark Brown color but it's refreshingly plain when many competing products are multi-colored and exhibit an abundance of marginally necessary buttons/cords and zippers.
March 3, 2008
Great Jacket
excellent rain jacket for the money, also doubles as a wind blocker. vents well when backpackng or hiking. jacket keeps rain out and lets moisture out, which is key. another good one by marmot.
February 14, 2008
Lightweight. Packs small. Water proof so far.
Jacket is lightweight for hiking. Packs tight in daypack. Used once so far in rain and did fine. Not as hot as heavier previous jackets.
