Perfect shell
As one reviewer pointed out, need fleece layer for colder days, but perfect with single cotton layer, especially if dealing with any wet weather.
Well thought out in terms of pockets, collar height.
Can't wait to try it out on spring-ski days.

Great all around hardshell
I have a lightweight shell for hiking/backpacking, but the Tamarack is my rain shell for everything else -- car camping, wood chopping, around town wear. It's designed for snowsports, but I chose it because I have a long torso and wanted to cover some of my butt, which most lightweight shells just don't do. It's a bit of overkill for a summer rain shell, but I really appreciate the beefy bill, cuffs, and that it doesn't get soggy and sticky in a downpour. My R4 Patagonia fleece (med) almost completely zips into the medium Tamarack, but I've never taken advantage of that. If you like secret pockets and multiple configurations, you should like this jacket. I would like to be able to zip out the snowskirt for better ventilation sometimes, but when it's cold or windy its much nicer than cinching the drawstring. I got the black because it was the only available color, but even though it didn't look as sexy on the webpage I'm glad I did because you can wear it anywhere in town and not look like a dork.

So far so good
Like others have said, great fit and quality so far. Good looking jacket with warm pockets and a great hood. Looks like a casual jacket. The only cons are stiff chest pocket zipper and unnecessary arm pocket. One more thing is the picture of the black jacket is wrong. It is navy blue with white marmot lettering.

The tamarack is perfect
I recently purchased the tamarack, my first hard shell, and can't be happier with my purchase. Living in Chicago, we get the wind and the precipitation, this jacket has done its job and some. In 20 degree weather with wind chills in the single digits, I layered with a full zip light weight fleece and felt nothing. The snow and sleet beads up and rolls off. Below zero wind chill is expected this weekend, time to really test this bad boy. Lastly, this jacket has some room, but isn't boxy. Layering is easy, comfortable and not bulky. If you're in the market for a lightweight hardshell thats tough as nails give the tamarack a go.

This is a great jacket; however, the website did not rate it's warmth. It is more of a shell, which allows for a zip in jacket but did not come with a zip in jacket. I need to wear a fleece underneath for added warmth.

This is a great jacket! I pair it with my North Face fleece and it certainly keeps me warm. I ordered a small and the sleeves are a bit long, but I'm 5'9" so I guess that can be expected.

Great ski shell
I bought this jacket for my husband for Christmas and he loves it. It is a perfect weight and very versatile. He wears it by itself on warmer days and with fleeces on cold days. He loves the fit and the soft collar. The hood has a pull in the back so he can have good peripheral visibility. It seems quite durable, although he hasn't had it very long. He wishes it had an ipod pouch so you can thread your headphones inside the jacket, but that appears to be the only disadvantage. He is about 6 feet tall and has very long arms and a Large fit perfectly. Shipping was very quick and product was delivered as expected.

awesome buy
First marmot jacket I've owned and the best jacket I've ever owned.
The fit is excellent and the rain sheds off it.It is warm for most midwest winter days but you can zip in a liner for the really cold ones. Can't wait to take it skiing. Would buy this again in a second

Very nice high quality shell
I've owned this shell for about a year and would purchase one again in a second. It's a high quality piece of clothing that looks and performs great. The sleeves are a bit long but that depends on your body type.

Singin' in the rain...
Love it. Kept me dry in the messiest of downpours. The Dri-Clime neck lining and sleeve ends are a nice touch, as are the pit zips. I found it to be plenty breathable. Hood has good coverage, but the read velcro adjustment in place of the drawstring doesn't allow for quite the fit adjustment many might like. The fit is just right for layering over a lighter fleece or sweatshirt. Definitely a great jacket for the money.

Awesome Jacket
I am very pleased with the jacket. I am 6'4", and the XL fit me perfectly. Comfortable jacket that keeps the rain at bay. Nice, sturdy zippers. The ability to zip in a fleece is a great feature for cold weather. Great pockets...I like the extra sleeve pocket in addition to the Napoleon pocket. The quality of materials and construction is excellent.

Great jacket
I love this jacket. I have tried on many other shells and liked this one best. It seemed to weigh less than the others. Fits true to size. I have a North Face Fleece that zipped in perfectly.

Impressed
I bought this jacket sight unseen and was worried it might be too flimsy. Before it arrived, I went to a local store and checked out the Rubicon, Troll Wall, Alpinist, as well as Arc'teryx, North Face et al and felt a bit better...though I was still concerned 'cause those jackets cost a lot more. When the Tamarack finally came, I was psyched. Feels more substantial than a shell with no lining. And the Membrane fabric feels plenty sturdy. Pockets are great, outer pockets have waterproof zips. The hood is for real with a solid visor, big enough for a helmet but fully adjustable. Overall, a very well constructed shell. The option of zipping in fleeces is a bonus. Also I agree with the previous post. Great fit for a tall guy. Can't attest to durability yet, but will post again in a while. Great deal for the price paid ($140). NOTE: Altrec has the wrong pic up for the Eclipse/Tempest(colors are wrong) Go to Marmot website for correct photo.
