The only 3 layer Gore-Tex® Pro Stretch shell on the market, the Marmot Torre Jacket for Men has the stretch, breathability, and comfort of a softshell jacket but with elemental protection of a 3 layer Gore-Tex® shell. Fully seam sealed with laser drilled pockets and water-resistant zippers, the Torre is a full featured ski jacket, that with a removable powderskirt, functions beautifully as a mountaineering or alpine climbing shell.
fantastic jacket, great construstion for free movement
Fantastic jacket, great construction for free movement
Bombproof
This jacket has everything I was looking for: excellent protection from snow, wind, and rain, highly functional napoleon pockets, pit zips, roomy enough to throw over layers, zip out powder skirt, durable fabric, and costing hundreds less than comparable shells. All in all a great design, excellent attention to details, and a highly functional shell that can be used year round in the alpine environment.
Solid Construction; OK Design
Overall, this is a great jacket. However, in my opinion, it's more of a mountaineering or hiking jacket than a skiing jacket. It would probably be perfect for someone who likes to hike or skin their way up and then ski down. But I bought this to serve as my primary ski jacket (mostly resort, but some backcountry), and for that purpose, there are probably better options for the price. This jacket has no side pockets (i.e. hand-warmer pockets); it only has the two Napoleon pockets. While the Napoleon pockets are fine for storage, I'm used to sticking my hands in my pockets on lifts (to keep warm), or at sporting events, or just walking around town. Also, I'm not a big fan of the hood being integrated into the collar without being stowable. It provides great neck coverage when zipped-up, so it's great on cold days. But on warm days, if you want to unzip a little bit, the collar and hood just kinda flop-around. I prefer a hood that is either removable, stowable, or at the very least, set-back off the collar away from your face. Here's my summary: PRO's: very solid construction and feel, Gore-Tex weatherproofing and breathability, slightly stretchy, helmet-compatible hood, awesome color (Raven), zip-off powder skirt, and pit-zips. CON's: Napoleon pockets only...no side pockets (i.e. handwarmer pockets); hood is not removable or stowable, making it awkward if you like to unzip at the neck to cool down.

Money.
Awesome shell! Breaths great and the slim fit stays out of the way when you're making turns. I spent an entire day skiing in heavy wet snow and the jacket never faltered. Kept me dry and it didn't have that clammy feel you get with other shells. Really satisfied with the purchase and it comes in significantly cheaper than most shells that offer this quality. Marmot raised the bar again with incredible quality for a semi-affordable price.
GoreTex quality, Marmot innovation
I use this jacket as my primary shell for ski patrol on Mt. Hood. The GoreTex Pro Shell has lived up to it's name and kept out everything from rain to freezing rail to big flakes of snow while still letting me breathe thanks to the material itself and the pit zips. The two chest pockets are well designed for alpine pursuits; they face "backwards" meaning that the left pocket is accessible with the right hand and vice versa, so you won't be using the pocket to keep your hands warm, but they have stored my food, camera, glide wax applicator, and more. All in all, a great jacket for backcountry or frontcountry use.

Purchased the Torre on Dec 2008. Very nice material. Tried it on some very freezing rain and it holds up well, even when it's windy. Haven't tried it on snow yet, but should be no problem. The jacket is a little stiff especially on the left arm where the additional pocket is. But the overall fit is good (5'10, 170lb, 40chest) and got a medium.
The one thing that worries me is the stitching. The stitching are all exposed outside the jacket. It looks very nice, but it's not goretex stitching. Jacket do rides up a little, 1-2 inches when you raise your arm up.
