Fantastic Jacket
I searched the internet & Altrec for a solid month attempting to find a winter jacket with the features of this jacket within my price points. There are many great garments out there, but none match the Marmot Yukon for its price and quality features. Specifically, I wanted down insulation, water proof exterior, detachable hood, accessible pockets, waist and bottom draw cords, adjustable velcro cuffs, double front zipper, mid thigh length. The Yukon is warm and light weight. In mid 30's temp with a light mist & 15+mph winds, I was warm with a T shirt undergarment. Granted, it is somewhat bulky and not "form fitting"; getting in and out of a vehicle is not a problem. The design of the arm / shoulders permit good flexibility for a variety of activities. If you want a quality, multi-featured winter jacket, get the Marmot Yukon!

Men's Yukon Classic Parka
I grew up in the Copper River Basin, Alaska, where winters can bring -45 degree or colder, but a very dry cold. I have lived in Michigan since 1991. In the winter, temperatures are not even close to being that cold, but, like today, it is a very damp cold. We call it the "lake effect," as the wind comes from the West, picking up much moisture from Lake Michigan. Also, the weather changes very rapidly. yesterday morning it was raining; by afternoon, sleet; by evening, snow. It is +27 outside, but the dampness and wind makes it feel much colder. This jacket is awesome - an excellent investment. it is definitely rain and wind proof and very warm! I ride the city buses and walk outside alot. Even standing while waiting for a bus, I stay warm in the wind and rain. The hood is warm and your face and neck are well protected. I look foreward to wearing it when I visit my family in Alaska in the winter months! However, you need to know that it fits VERY large. I had to return my L and exchange it for a M. So my advice - order a size below what you would usually buy in a jacket.

Love Marmot & Altrec
I am a big fan of all Marmot products and this jacket lives up to Marmot's great quality. Wind proof, water proof and very warm, great jacket for Chicago's nasty winters. Runs a little large, room for sweaters or sport coat. Purchased this jacket for my husband for a last minute Christmas gift. Altrec delivered within two days as promised. Thanks Altrec, he loves it.

Fantastic jacket at a great price
This was exactly what I have been looking for. I live in the wilderness region of the Adirondacks, off the grid, deep in the woods, where temps routinely go as low as minus 30 degrees. This Marmot is comfortable, warm, intelligently designed and wind and waterproof as well. I normally would go with a large, but after reading other comments about sizing, I went with the Medium and it fits perfectly.

What I was waiting for.
Initially i bought a North Face Summit Plasma Jacket. But it just wasn't warm enough. Got the jacket two days later (shipping with Altrec.com is very fast) just before heading to Tennessee on the 23 of Dec, a good thing, as the temps there were well below freezing. This Jacket is as warm as you will need....with layering beneath it it's toasty to hot. Extremely wind resistant, though i have yet to try it in rain conditions. It runs large, though very comfortable...both the hem and waistline are adjustable, and it covers below the waist thoroughly. The only thing that would make it better would be extra protection on the elbows, and scuff protection on the shoulders and chest area. Overall the material is very durable...It is a bit puffy, as it's a parka, yet doesn't get in the way. This is one of the best jackets you can afford yourself for extreme conditions, not withstanding the north or south poles. Couldn't be more pleased.

Yukon Parka Reconsidered
Without having sufficiently tested my parka in foul weather, I wrote a glowing review on March 17, 2010. Since that time, I have tested this product in the frozen rain and howling wind of Chicago. Pros: The rich, high-tech MemBrain fabric truly is waterproof. The arms and hood of the parka are thick, well insulated. Cons: IT'S NOT THAT WARM, since the front, body part of the parka doesn't feel well insulated. Also, the Velcro strips for securing hood are few and quite narrow. The zipper is small, plastic and not easy to hook in, and although the parka has an elastic, snapping "snow skirt" at the hip level, there is no drawstring at the waist so the coat feels too loose. I am 5'10-1/2", 200 lbs. and the large-size parka feels too big. Altrec's website was easy to use and their delivery was quick! I think I'll have a weaver repair the small cuts in the shell, and replace the coyote pelt in the hood, of my incredibly thick, warm, 30 year-old, Eddie Bauer Superior Polar Parka and give the Marmot Yukon Parka to charity.

Worthy replacement for a Superior Polar Parka?
I was looking for a coat to replace my 30 year old, Eddie Bauer Superior Polar Parka (discontinued) - - and I think that I may have found it! The coat arrived last week - - sooner than Altrec had estimated, and is gorgeous, thick and warm. Sizes do run big. My only complaint is the placement of the hand-warming pockets: the pockets are placed too low and are not on an angle (as they are in the Superior Polar Parka), thus making them "unergonomic" in design. Otherwise, I am very pleased with my purchase. Hopefully, the coat will be as durable as the Superior Polar Parka!

Fantastic Winter Coat
I could not wait to get this coat once I ordered it as it seemed to have everything I wanted in a winter coat: it was waterproof, had a great down fill, an insulated hood, and a good reputation. I have to admit that I was a little disappointed when I received it- the collar didn't seem to fit right, the hood was huge (i didn't realize it was designed to accommodate a helmet...), and there was a lot of thin velcro instead of heavy snaps. However, when I took it out on a freezing winter night, I realized it was a winner. The collar I was worried about made a great seal around my neck and the design of it kept the zipper away from my skin. The hood also did a great job, even with a 25 mph offshore wind in my face it didn't blow off and kept the wind out. At first I thought the lack of buttons meant it would be flimsy, but it helped contribute to the jacket's amazing lightness and made it much faster to put on and take off. A quick swipe with my hand and the zipper was protected by a flap that stayed put until it was time to unzip. The pockets were similarly very easy to get into and stayed shut. A few weeks later I wore the jacket in a heavy rain and saw the water bead and roll right off- a quick shake under an awning and it was practically dry (no dripping all over the store I was entering). All in all this is the finest jacket I've ever owned and I'm sorry I ever doubted it. I would also like to give props to Altrec for the great sale that they were offering, and delivering the jacket in a timely manner. In just a little while I will be making my next Marmot purchase through Altrec, so they've definitely made me a repeat customer.

Serious equipment
I have other good down jackets, and have been caught in the rain, bad news. This Marmot Yukon is bullet proof. The outer shell is strong and tight, covering thick down. The pockets are flat, nothing to catch on snags. This also gives it a clean look. I like the snowskirt inside just for an air seal. The size is generous with lots of room for layering. Great Coat.

Excellent!!!
I could not be happier with my purchase. The coat's quality is way above the norm. Flexible, easy to move around in, lots of pockets,drawstrings, etc. Prefer it to anything I saw at Northface or Eddie Bauer. Thanks.

product WORKS even better than it looks !!
This is a very great looking parka - but it is in reality an amazing bit of survival grade gear with excellent features. Better than advertised. Was tested 2 days after i received it under 5 degree temperature and 30 MPH wind for over 8 hours - in very difficult winter conditions, including active rime icing in the Adirondaks. Exceptional moisture handling and superior warmth and comfort. a 10+ out of 10 performer and a real bargain at the price. NO regrets on this purchase.

Great features
The jacket had a rugged exterior with plush interior ... just what I was hoping for. Positives: Waterproof, down insulation, durable construction/materials. Negatives: I'm thinking the one I got was defective on the hood. The horizontal velcro one one side of the hood enclosure is not wide enough to span the vertical velcro on the other side of the enclosure. So, I'm sending back for exchange. Also, this parka is super sized (assuming the L I received is really a large). I am inside the sizing range for a L, as I am with all jackets, however this thing feels almost two sizes too large. I can't believe I'd wear a Medium at 5'11" 190??? Overall, this is what I was looking for, and should be good for the brutal 20 below and 20-30mph ND winters.

Incredible Jacket
This jacket is incredible, if you live in harsh cold conditions and if the winter is coming, you need to get this jacket. I took it out the box and it was very cold when I put it on, but instantly i was almost burning up once i put it on, that's how nice it is.

My Yukon Parka is exactly what I was looking for in a winter coa
I am very pleased with my new Parka. It is not only warm but also it is very stylish and I can do so much with it. I can use it for business with my suits during the week and I can wear on the weekends when I hit the road with my family. It is a great coat and I am very happy that I found the exact coat I was looking for!

Helluva Deal
Alaska born 'n bred ... and it's all whole grain bread up here, folks. No sissy lower 48 winters here. What you call "cold" we call "summer." So this was a welcome surprise, to find such a quality parka at such a reasonable price. Altrec delivered much faster than expected, and when we had to do an RMA and reorder, they processed quickly and had the new parka in our cold little hands in less than a week. AMAZING! Especially since most folks "down there" think Alaska isn't even part of the U.S. (and we encourage the thought!). Marmot comes through again w/ a great piece of equipment for the cold. Now, agree w/ 'Somewhere in Alaska' that Canada Goose is the top of the line, but unless you're above the Arctic Circle or the harsher interior regions, Goose wear is overkill, and this Marmot will do you well, even at typical -teens and twenties here in Alaska.

AWESOME Jacket !!
I bought this for my father who absolutely hates the cold. He says it is very very warm yet fairly light and not bulky. He loves it. Sizes run big so if you usually take an xl a large will do.

Great WARM Parka
This is a perfect parka for digging out of the snow or wearing over a suit on extra cold days. They are over sized so be conservative when sizing; a medium still has a lot of wiggle room. The hood is warm, detachable and wind proof but would be better if a button instead of Velcro was used. The exterior shell is sturdy, water and wind proof and there are plenty of pockets for storage. Great parka which will last a lifetime.

Great parka - Great buy!
Have been looking @ parkas for the upcoming Alaskan winter, and after looking @ dozens of them, it came down to "Marmot" or "Marmot." Yes, Mtn Hardwear is great stuff, but I'm not climbing Lhotse or Aconcagua... Why only 4 Stars? Because everyone up here knows Canada Goose is the only perfect jacket on the market, but they're too warm except for the arctic or very subzero temps, and CG parkas are almost 3x the price of Altrec's closeout Marmots. It was a no brainer. Selected the Yukon because of the pockets even tho' oz per yd fabric was less than Whitehorse: durable fabric is a must, and the 4.3oz/yd v. 6oz/yd was a fair trade, and sufficiently "stiff" to handle most conditions short of dead spruce branches and brown bear claws. While communication from Altrec was limited and there was no tracking info because I live in the Big AK, it arrived much faster than advertised - within days! My reluctance & hesitation to buy from an "unknown" was allayed. Going over the parka w/ a fine tooth comb and magnifying glass found it to be 'up to snuff' with what I've come to expect from Marmot: Great quality and attention to detail. Love the fit - very roomy, but not overly so. (Waist on the large maxes out @ 36", which is small for most men who'd wear a L, so went w/XL: can't have a parka that's too snug. Marmot could increase waist to 38-40 in the L and it'd be perfect for 99% of men who would otherwise wear it. And love the pockets, even if they do compromise warmth a bit. Winter's no slouch up here in the Great White North, and neither is this coat. I'm sure we'll all get along nicely! Now, on to snowshoes ....

Warm and comfortable
After quite a bit of research, this parka came to the top of the list for design, light weight, warmth and comfort. Have used it already a few times. My only concern is with the hood - the draw strings seem somewhat difficult to use.

Bring on the Elements!
One of the other reviews calls this a lightweight jacket. I'd describe it more as the parka you'd want with you when you're sitting in Soldier Field in late December watching the Bears/Packers on a day when the wind is howling off the lake, the slush is blowing sideways, and the temp is not only numbing your fingers but also making icicles in your beer. This jacket can take it. The sizes run somewhere between huge and ginormous with a large being so big I had to order the next size down (which rarely happens).

Great Parka
I was unsure of the size I needed, but went with a Large. I am 6' 185lbs and it's a nice fit with room for a layer or two under if needed. This parka is made well as others have stated. I plan to add velcro on the hood flap. Other than that it's perfect. Shipping was fast as well.

Beautiful Jacket
Clean lines and loaded with well placed zippered pockets. Looks like it will be plenty warm for cold midwest winters.

Well made. Lots of pockets. Hood unzips easily however it could use more velcro. Marmot seems to size their jackets generously.
