Needed a nice coat for VT winters
January 02, 2012
I live on Lake Champlain, and the wind whips off the lake in the winter. I needed a long coat that would protect me, and also look good for work. I searched a bunch of coats on this site, and this one won. It is warm and toasty, looks snappy and is waterproof. Fits a little snug around the shoulders (I ordered one size up - thankfully). So, in the end, I made a nifty purchase!

I like it very much, in spite of the sizing running small.
wonderful coat with many features
January 09, 2011
This is a great coat that is both waterproof and breathable. I love that it is somewhat fitted along the waist so it gives you some shape (even thought I don't really have an hourglass shape). It is a perfect length for coverage-not too long or short. The fur is not very nice looking up close, but it can be removed. There is soft suede/fleece lining in the pockets which is very nice. It is a coat that you can use on a nice evening out but it is also a very technical coat.

I finally found a coat with all the features I wanted - #1 being a warm quilted down on the inside and a CHIC SMOOTH OUTSIDE - no Michelin Man look. I tried on a lot of coats here in NYC before deciding on the Marmot Chelsea on-line at altrec. I'm 5'5" and 135 lb and the large is perfect across my shoulders, even with a sweater on. I've worn this coat every chance I've had. It's warm, waterproof and most importantly, comfortable. The hood fits well (I removed the faux fur right away. I doubt I'll ever use it.) The coat does not flare much from the waist and that keeps wind from blowing up. The angle of the zippered hand pockets is a bit awkward but okay now that I've gotten used to using them. I haven't worn this coat enough yet to comment on its durability but all the seams and stitches are smooth and overall workmanship simply excellent. I'm thrilled with this coat!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value, lightweight & comfortable
Warm enough for Alaska!
February 23, 2013
As a Southern Californian headed to Alasks in February, I was on a quest for THE warmest coat out there. I had one from another supplier for a trip to New York a few months ago, and liked it but quickly realized it wasn't going to cut it up here. While it isn't as horribly cold as I feared (its in the mid-20's) this coat is doing the job fabulously. Toasty warm, good fit (I am usually an XS but the S is perfect over somewhat heavy sweater). I like the outer layer that minimizes the bulk and quilting for a more fitted look - I would definitely use this in the city too. Also great is the fleece cuffs so now drafts sneak up my arms. My only gripe is the absence of an outer chest pocket for my phone, a feature that so many seem to be eliminating on women's outer wear for some reason...Pros: Build quality, Ease of use
Sleek down jacket
December 08, 2010
I purchased this jacket for my wife - who has long been complaining about her lack of a good-looking down winter coat. She's a tiny girl so I needed the XS. It fits her beautifully, is extremely warm and windproof, and doesn't turn her into the Michelin Man with all of the stitched bulges too common to down coats nowadays.
I love this coat!

The Chelsea by Marmot is warm and fits me perfectly. I usually wear a size small and this is a great fit. I like the length which hits just above my knee. Also, I appreciate the fact that Marmot replaced all the velcro with heavy duty snaps. The velcro usually found on down jackets/coats was damaging all my Isotoner gloves. I have worn it every day since I received it. This was my first order from Altrec and the service was superb. I will definitely be ordering from Altrec again!

I love this coat! It is warm and windproof, supposed to be waterproof although I haven't tested it in pouring rain, it's fine in snow. I am chronically freezing, especially in Canadian winters, but this coat is toasty warm, even in the wind, subzero fahrenheit temperatures, and waiting at the skate rink. I love the fit of the hood, it really protects from very cold wind and blowing snow, but don't expect good peripheral vision with it all the way on. The length is long enough for coverage to the knees. The two outside pockets are nice and deep. A lot of older online reviews talk about velcro on sleeve cuffs being a problem, mine has snaps that work great. The belt gives it a nice touch and is attached in a way that you don't have to fuss at all with it (doesn't go around the front) I normally wear a medium, I bought this extra large to allow for a bulky layer in between when I need it, most people may want to buy one size up. I highly recommend this coat for warmth, practicality, an it looks great too!

It runs small but arms a little large. It is very durable and easy to do spot wash. After this coat, I decided to get a goose down jacket for my son from Marmot.

I am 5'4'' and have relatively small build and the size small fits me perfectly. I have not had the chance to wear this coat in the wintertime yet, but I am moving to Philadelphia soon and I have no doubt that it will work well there. I tried it on inside and I had to take it off soon after because I was overheating (go figure!) I especially like the removable fur on the hood. It took me so long to find a down jacket that was hooded yet did not have the fur on the hood. The fur has a zipper and comes off very easily. In conclusion, with the waterproof outside, this jacket is going to be everyday-wear for me in Philly. I love it!
Warm and wind-resistant
July 11, 2012
I was looking for a wind-resistant warm coat to handle the Michigan winter. I owned several down coats before. They were warm but only when you wore them in non-windy weather. Michigan winters produce wind-chills which are very cold and bitter. This jacket can withstand these conditions. However, I would like to have a greater selection of colors; currently they have only black, white, and brown. I previously owned a plum colored one; it was very lovely but they no longer produce it. The style of this coat is very flattering and not bulky. The design is clean and classic; I wore it almost every day in winter - a good purchase.Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
