Description

Lightweight and packable, the Marmot Women's PreCip Jacket makes a great raincoat for hiking, backpacking and adventure travel. Made from Marmot's proprietary PreCip® fabric, this thin rain shell is waterproof, windproof and breathable. It features a 2.5-layer polyurethane coating with ceramic particles to add durability and Dry Touch technology to reduce any clamminess against your skin. Marmot designed this rain jacket with PitZips to help vent heat when you warm up and Pack Pockets™ that are compatible with a backpack hip belt. The hood and cuffs have adjustable Velcro tabs for a custom fit and an elastic drawcord helps seal out cold wind. The hood packs away into the collar when you don't need it and the jacket rolls up into a tiny bundle to save pack space. A women-specific fit gives it a low profile silhouette and Angel-Wing Movement gives your arms a full range of motion without exposing your tummy. From a summer in the Sierras to a backpacking trip in Costa Rica, the Marmot PreCip Jacket for women will keep your pack weight down and keep you dry if you ever have to pull it out. Now, the hardest part is picking your favorite color: should you go with Grass to blend into the greenery of Costa Rica or Vivid Blue to match the alpine lakes of the Golden Trout Wilderness?

Great jacket for the price
October 15, 2012

I purchased this jacket for my daughter. I wanted a quality jacket for a good price. She was dry walking home from the bus stop in the pouring rain. This is the fifth marmot jacket for our family and we have not been disappointed. I am 5'5" and 125 lbs and the small fits me. I gave it four stars for comfort because I have a more expensive rain jacket and the fabric is softer and more comfortable. All in all great jacket for a great price. Got it on sale.

Good quality jacket and not expensive.
August 27, 2012

It's lightweight, water-proof, stylish and not expensive. The two underarm zips are very important if you want to use this jacket during strenuous activities like mountain hiking, ... Another important feature you might consider when purchasing a jacket is its breathable level. Marmot PreCip® Dry Touch waterproof/breathable technology is OK. Of course it can't be compared with Gore-Tex which is better but much more expensive (see Marmot Minimalist jacket).

Pros: Build quality, Great value

Great protection, looks great too
October 25, 2011

My girlfriend was looking for a replacement rain jacket. It needed to have a good fit on her small frame, be very water resistant, allow for full motion and look good. She didn't want a piece that was too brightly colored or had that "performance" look. So, in short, all the features, but in a stylish package. The Precip, in black, fit the bill perfectly.

Love this Jacket
March 21, 2012

I usually have a hard time finding jackets that are long enough. My torso is longer than most women and was really glad that this jacket was long enough and wasn't cut short like most jackets I own. I will definitely be looking into more marmot jackets in the future! I love the two tone green color in the jacket as well and the inside pockets are awesome as well as the pit zips for breath-ability while still keeping you dry! Can't wait to take this with me on all my hikes and adventures this summer!

Amazing, lightweight rain jacket
June 20, 2011

My awesome boyfriend bought this for me because I previously didn't have a rain jacket. It is PERFECT for Houston rain because it is lightweight and comfy. I am very pleased because not only does it serve it's purpose extremely well, but it is also cute! I have tried on many rain jackets and this one was my favorite because the arm length actually fit. I'm usually between an extra small and a small (extra small fits length wise but small fits better on the chest) but this small was perfect in both areas (I'm 5'1" with medium sized chest). Definitely a great present and my boyfriend gets to hear how much I love it everytime I wear it!

I got this jacket after trying a lot of different brands. I like this jacket because it is light weight, roomy without being too big (can layer) and water resistant. haven't worn it in torrential rain, so I can't comment on that. It seems well made, great colors and good value. Definitely recommend!

Nice, lightweight rain shell
October 01, 2011

This jacket is great for travel & hiking - it's lightweight, waterproof and fits nicely. The hood is a little too short to actually prevent your face from getting wet but it does keep the water out. In a downpour while I was hiking, I was dry but the fabric of this coat keeps some moisture in the coat (probably from my body heat) so my bare arms felt damp.

Great Jacket
December 27, 2012

I bought this jacket as a Christmas present for my fiance and she loves it. She hasn't used it out on the trail yet but we have walked her dogs in a downpour as a test. Her upper body was completely dry after about 15 minutes of walking in a heavy rain. It also has a very nice hood design which kept her face and head dry. Can't really give a full review since it's not my jacket but she has been extremely pleased with it so far.

May 23, 2011

comfortable fit, provides room for layering without being too bulky. I am right between small and med, and went with the medium--the sleeves are a bit long, but otherwise fine. I really like the hood--covers without blocking vision. Its put up with everything the spring has offered it-- no hurricanes so I dont know how to rate that. :)

Lovely Rainjacket!
October 04, 2011

I needed a rain jacket that I could easily stash away in a bag and then whip out once it starts pouring outside and this is just that! I love how their "white" color is actually pearl with a soft very subtle sheen to it. I'm 5'5 and 120lbs and the small fits perfectly. In addition, I really appreciate the drawstring waist and the little soft cushioning behind the zipper that hits your chin when the jacket is zippered all the way up. Some ingenious thinking by the marmot designers! I'm not sad when it rains out cause then I get to wear this beautiful jacket!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

December 02, 2010

I love this jacket for how light it is.. great to roll up and throw in my pack! However, I'm only 5'7" and the sleeves only reach my forearms! I would look for a jacket that was better proportioned for my next purchase.

Definitely Waterproof
August 08, 2011

I hate 'waterproof' jackets that repel water for a few minutes and then suddenly are no longer waterproof. This jacket, though, is the real deal. I acutally bought it a couple months ago, but hadn't really put it to the test. Well, recently, I stood in the pouring rain for 3+ hours, and stayed perfectly dry. I was constantly moving, picking up all sort of tree branches and debris, and this jacket proved it's durability. The pit-zips were a huge help in ventilation. For sizing purposes, I wanted it big enough that I could potentially fit a sweatshirt under it, since there is no insulation. I'm 5'6'', 130LBS and the medium is a great fit. The sleeves come down to my hands (hard to find, I have long arms), and the jacket reaches the top of my buttocks, providing plenty of coverage. It's slightly baggy, but it's not like I'm looking to win a fashion award, I just want to stay dry and comfortable.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

June 29, 2009

This coat is perfect to pack in your backpack when you are trying to travel light. The coat keeps you dry and can be worn on a rainy day or even on a slightly chilly day to keep you warm. I ordered a small and usually wear size 4 or 6 in women's clothes and it fits great.

Perfect Jacket and Perfect Color
October 09, 2010

I purchased the Grass/Olive Green combination color jacket for my spouse. She loves the color combination and the fit. Great Rain Jacket
September 03, 2010

Very lightweight, fabulous for the rain and fits a little bit big, so consider sizing down.

great jacket -- not as light as expected
August 20, 2009

This is a fantastic jacket -- it survived it first storm with no leaks! It is well fitted, not bulky, and it has the right amount of bells whistles. The M fits perfectly for my 5'6"/140lbs, a little loose over a tank top and fine over a fleece or sweater. However, it is not a light summer jacket. It is a little warm to wear while really active, and it is certainly hot for the NC summers. I look forward to using it more in the coming months when it cools off.

Travel necessity
November 26, 2009

My first time out with this jacket was a trip to the Cliff Walk in Newport, RI. It rained the entire day but this jacket performed like a champ. My pants were soaked but the rest of me stayed dry. The pit-zips really helped control body temp. The jacket fits well and packs easily. It's perfect for travel.

Wonderful Jacket
March 13, 2011

I hike 6 days a week so a waterproof rain jacket is important. Many others I have bought were a great disappointment. I am very happy with the performance. I tested it in the shower before we went out on a 2 day hike. The fit is true to size and I absolutely love the zip pockets. Wish I would have purchased this a long time ago.I am 5'5" and weigh 150lbs. I bought this a size up to accommodate other layers for warmth. The shape of the hood provides good coverage and my neck is protected. Staying dry is very important especially in cold weather.

bought this for walking/hiking
July 22, 2009

This jacket might rate 5 stars, but I haven't field tested it yet. The fit is fine. I got an XL because I dislike form-fitting clothes (I'm overweight in the torso, and want to have the option of wearing a warm layer under the jacket). I'm average height. The arms are cut relatively long. The length covers my butt, but is short enough not to interfere with the leg movement mountain hiking entails. I like the jacket's features and the attention to detail. It fits easily into my lumbar day pack. The color I chose was well represented on this website/my computer. This is the first Marmot garment I've purchased, and I'd do it again. By the way, I've ordered online here several times --Altrec's service is superb.

My third Marmot Precip jacket!!
June 20, 2010

This is the ultimate rain gear (I also have a pair of the pants). My previous jacket is too large after a huge weight loss so I "handed it down" to a family member to enjoy and purchased a new one in the luscious red plum color. I've worn my Marmot in heavy rain, and with the pants, I stay dry all over - even items in my pockets stay dry. I love the zippers for extra ventilation when it's a warm to hot day and raining in southern FL. I wouldn't think of changing brands due to this superb performance.

Marmot Women's Precip Jacket
February 15, 2010

I absolutely love this jacket. I have always been a fan of Marmot products and would highly recommend this or any of their jackets. They are true to size, look great and feel great as well.

For the price- GREAT!
April 15, 2010

You can spend much more for a shell, but you won't get a better one for this price! It does everything a more expensive waterproof shell does, without all the bells and whistles. Nothing fancy here; but I didn't want "fancy". I wanted light weight for Spring-Fall rain gear, to fit over hiking and light layered clothes for work or hanging out. It fits the bill. Fit is true to size for layering over light clothes, not heavy Winter layers. I got the "Fire" color and it's super visible in case of emergency in the woods, and low light conditions when you need to be seen. Liked it so much, bought a "tamer" white color for everyday. Overall, great value for the money!

Great Waterproof Jacket
March 16, 2011

I have yet to test this jacket in a true storm but it's held up very nicely so far though both the sunny days and the drizzly days. I ordered a large and it fits like expected: a little bigger than required but I wanted space to throw a sweater on underneath. It's a very comfortable jacket and fits a woman's body well. It does have the interesting interior sensation of all raincoat's which I found took a bit to get used to. However, that texture comes from the waterproof lining so it's necessary and not a problem. I ordered mine in Grape Berry and it's a lovely color. Very vibrant. And I love the rolldown hood and the ease of storing the jacket inside its mesh pocket. I'm very happy with my choice and I would recommend this jacket.

Great rain gear
June 08, 2012

I work in the woods and have used this jacket in torrential rain, so this may not be the typical use. It does a great job, to a point. I believe no jacket is truly waterproof. They all have a saturation point. This one does a very fine job though and as a result Marmot is the only rain gear brand I will buy. I am a bit afraid to wash it because after the first time of washing, I think its waterproofing was compromised. I will say that it isn't for people with a curvy-er shape. There is not much flare in the hips, it's cut straight. The rest of the design is great. The vents in the armpits are freaking fantastic and provide much needed relief from that sauna-jacket feeling! Near the top of the zipper, there is a soft, felt area which prevents the plastic from rubbing against your skin. Also the hood is designed really well and it keeps rain away from your face and eyes. I wouldn't recommend it for biking because your peripheral vision gets completely blocked though.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Cons: washing may reduce waterproofing

September 13, 2011

I normally have a hard time fitting into jackets because I have big shoulders for my 5' 110 lb. frame. I ordered an XS and was skeptical about whether it would fit because I have never worn an XS in my life. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is plenty of room in the shoulders even when layered over a fleece jacket! The hood is a great feature and keeps the water off your face. I just wish this jacket had a little bit of a warm lining as rainy days tend to be cool in New England, even during the summer.

Great Fitting Jacket
July 12, 2012

So excited to try out my new jacket. I live in Durango and we are starting the monsoon season. Every afternoon it clouds up and threatens to rain. I needed a light weight jacket that can be stuffed in a purse, or backpack. This jacket is PERFECT! I love that it is close fitting but still has enough room for a light fleece for warmth if needed. One certainly knows what they are getting with the Precip. This is the second time I've purchased one. The previous jacket took me through a rainy trip in AK and lasted a good 2 years of hiking/camping in rainy WA state. Mind you, it's not Goretex, but it is perfect for the walk or hike in light rain. Great rain jacket
February 15, 2013

This is a great jacket for the rainy spring in New Orleans. The jacket is not lined which is good as it is very warm down here. I really appreciate the armpit zippers so that you don't end up sweating. Wore this through three pretty good showers during Mardi Gras and stayed nice and dry! The hood design is very nice and can be cinched around your face to keep the rain out. Over all a great jacket!

Pros: Build quality, Performance

Great price, nice color selection, good build
August 11, 2009

I love the color selection Marmot offers. The fit seems true to size, and the jacket is quite lightweight, making it very packable.

Great Jacket, Great Price
March 12, 2011

I'm glad I decided to purchase the Marmot Women's Precip Jacket from Altrec.com. I looked at other rain jackets in this price range, and the features were not as detailed or technical as the Precip, which includes pitzips (making it a 3 season jacket), a rain hood (with a bill that you can tuck in if you're doing something more urban), and velcro adjustments where needed most. I would definitely recommend this jacket, but consider ordering a size up. This jacket is definitely cut for a woman's figure.

Dry, contoured fit but not 'fitted'
June 14, 2009

This is a dry shell not a "keep warm" shell, if you want to keep warm you need layers under it. I have thin arms, a not-thin belly, and I dislike contoured or fitted clothing. The jacket runs true to size, but a bit slender in the arms, not fitted, but not relaxed either. I did not buy a size up, mine looks like it would not fit a fleece vest beneath it, but it does barely. To achieve a relaxed fit with a medium-thick fleece vest, sweatshirt or sweater I would buy a size up. The pit zips let you know they are there, but not uncomfortably so. When they are unzipped at exactly (only) the pit the arm fit becomes more relaxed. This is a really nice jacket.

Awkward Fit
August 11, 2009

I really liked the colors, the material and the style. But there was something awkward about the way the pit zips fit.

Great rain jacket
November 03, 2010

This is my second Marmot Precip Jacket. It has seen many miles on the hiking trail plus it is great for running errands on a rainy day. The hood is great as it keeps out the rain but still folds away when not needed. The velcro cuffs are a nice feature, as well. I like color, and there are many beautiful colors to choose from. This jacket is well worth the money.

Wonderful
November 11, 2009

I bought this jacket for my daughter in college. She absolutely loves it. She has plenty of room to layer clothes underneath if needed and still be comfortable. She has to walk all over campus even on rainy days and the jacket has kept her dry and warm. I would highly recommend. It is stylish too! My other daughter now wants one!

Great quality!
March 01, 2010

I bought my first Marmot jacket a few years back for a hiking trip. It was extremely durable and kept me completely dry in the soaking rain! I'm sure it would have lasted me for years, but I ended up giving it away to a cousin. I finally bought another one for myself, and I can't wait to wear it!

Great Rain Jacket, Can See Wear Quickly
May 04, 2011

I bought this rain jacket almost a year ago and really only wear it on rainy days and sometimes as a light jacket to and from work in early spring. Very comfortable, fits well. Bought a small, I'm 5' 7" about 150lbs. Prob could a used a Medium if it adds a little length and possibly a bigger hood, but otherwise fits good. My only gripe is that with maybe 80 days wearing it and for not long at all, the inside lining is peeling away and falling out. Will either try contacting Altrec or Marmot directly about the quality issue. I have a friend who has owned hers for a few years before me and has never had a problem, so maybe its an isolated problem...still a great buy.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Great value, Cons: Wears quickly

Good packable rain shell
March 20, 2011

There are many things I like about this jacket. It packs down small, is very light weight, keeps me dry and blocks the wind well! I have the purple color in size small; I am 5'1' and 120 it fits with enough room for a base layer and a fleece jacket underneath and I still can move unencumbered. The wrists have a good combination of elastic with Velcro tabs to adjust for a perfect fit. The cord at the hem is easy to tighten and loosen on the move. But I will discuss the things that may make you look at other choices. The hood stowing is not particularly useful, the rolling up and Velcro strap design does not secure it well, it still hangs down some and flops around. I can't do it with the jacket on. It is fairly breathable but it does get a bit clammy when I am exerting myself. The pit zips are huge which is great for aggressive heat dump, but it is a one zipper system from bicep down to almost your waist . The holes are just that and have no mesh to keep the material from flapping. I find it hard to close them completely back up without the zippers getting caught/jammed unless I take the jacket off. And even trying to close them part of the way with a pack on is a bit of an awkward struggle. A personal peeve is the swooshing noise water proof clothing makes. I know most of them do and this one is no exception but I am always looking for quiet clothing as I hike mostly in the woods of the National Parks in my area. This jacket is fairly noisy when moving. There are two external pockets, I prefer to have a third on the chest. Yes I would purchase this jacket again as it does what it is supposed to do well. But I will keep looking for the "perfect" rain shell that meets all my personal criteria.

Great for Hiking/Camping
June 27, 2009

I booked a vacation to Peru which included a 4-day hike and camping through the mountains/jungle during rainy season. This jacket provided great protection. I ordered a small, and it still provided enough room to wear a sweatshirt underneath. Whenever it was too humid, I was able to open different zippers to allow ventilation (the "PitZips"). The large pockets fit all I needed (small flashlight, tissues, wallet, etc.), and whenever it rained, it kept me pretty dry. It's very lightweight, and easy to fold and fit into your bag.

Its a good product from a high quality manufacture. Would recommend to anyone. I really like the color it matches my eyes and everyone comments on the jacket saying "nice jacket is it new." Had a Columbia for many years and decided it was time for something new. This jacket was the perfect choice for me especially considering the price it was a no-brainer! Does what it is supposed to do; its just a jacket! ; )

Nice rain jacket.
July 21, 2012

I purchased this for my daughter and she loves the color (bluestone) and fit. I got her a small and she is 5'2" and 130 pounds. I am 5'4" and 145 pounds and the small also fits me. Time to order one for mom!

Meant to Be!
May 22, 2011

Spent the weekend in Seattle with my sister. She lent me her Precip Jacket because she is currently pregnant and it doesn't fit her (she wore her husbands precip). It was perfect, it rained on us all weekend and we did lots of shopping and walking. On my way home Sunday it just happened to be the altrec deal of the day, I have never hit "buy now" so quickly.

Perfect urban and backcountry rain gear
December 27, 2012

I wore my husbands precip for years. When my sister requested this one for Xmas I realized how much nicer the ladies fit is. Am now going to order one for myself. The Marmot quality is amazing. This is everything you expect high performance gear to be and is stylish enough to wear around town. Thanks Altrec for offering it at such a great price. The features are pretty straightforward but include great seaming, adjustable hood, sleeves and bottom. Match with rain pants and stay dry in pretty much anything. In Minnesota I appreciate wearing it over fleece for those sleety days.

Daughter loves jacket & fit
December 06, 2011

My teenage daughter loves this jacket and she's a fussy jacket person. No complaints here though. Would highly recommend it for other moms who need to find a rain jacket for a jacket picky daughter. It's a winner!

Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Great value

I love this jacket
June 27, 2010

Bought this as a rain shell in a pinch and haven't found a better one. It stands up to abuse, and offers large pit zips for great ventilation. The storm hood is very adjustable. I have very long hair that I wear in a bun, the hood has enough room and the brim sits where it should with my hair up. It's very light weight, almost nothing in my hiking pack and very compressible. I love the pants too!

Nice very light weight jacket
March 10, 2010

The jacket is well constructed and fits me perfectly. It will be a good light jacket for traveling. I love the Red Plum color I bought.

nice jacket, very lightweight
July 30, 2010

I like this jacket, it doesn't feel like a plastic coat. I bought it for summer rain showers, and it's great. I will say that it has a lot of velcro parts, so parts of it tend to stick to things.

I love this jacket!
February 25, 2011

This jacket is exactly what I was looking for. RAINPROOF--I haven't tried it in a hurricane yet, but I imagine it will be just fine. comfortable, bright color to cheer you up in the rain, and fits perfectly. I'm a women's size 12, and bought a large. It is comfortably roomy with room for a fleece but fits nicely. All features--zippers, pockets, fit and function of hood are practical and thoughtful. A very good value for the price.

Great jacket!
April 12, 2012

I just received my rain jacket and I know I will wear this often. Years ago I purchased a similar jacket and it always kept me dry. I really like the dip in the back that covers you while bending or biking. The design of the shoulder and sleeves allows for ease of movement and layering. Unfortunately, becauseof my mid-section I will be returning my XL for an XXL. Love the Turtle Dove color!

Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Great value

Awesomely waterproof; great online store
May 20, 2009

I bought this jacket so I could finally have something waterproof for walking the dog, picking up groceries, doing normal city things I need to do each day without a car... It's awesome! Even in the Washington, DC, humidity I never feel stuffy; the zippers let in just the right amount of air. It's great for bike riding and just being out around town while it's raining! Just made it through a very rainy April and was dry as a bone! Got it in Raven, a really nice shade of brown.

Excellent Jacket

Very nice light material. Good fit not bulky. I use my Arcteryx rain jacket for more pyhsical activites, like biking and climbing. But I love this jacket for more stylish casual wear around town.

Easy to wear. Never get wet in downpours. I do wish the hood were a little longer in the front.
