A little on the heavy side but very solid and comfy shoes. Spent the day getting wet but my feet stayed toasty and dry. There is no break in time required they are sweet right out of the box.
I highly recommend

Excellent comfort and quality as expected of Merrel. These shoes are a little bit bulkier than I expected, but they are definitely heavy duty. They are great for every day wear and moderately difficult hikes.
Disgraceful

I brought the 'hiking' shoes version, in august 2011 for 5 months of traveling central and south america. as it was sunny alot of the time, they were only woren when it was raining and when we were hiking, so about 70/80 times max. Could not have brought a worse boot. A; when it rained, they had no grip whats so ever, no matter what i was walking on, the amount of times i slipped was unreal. so much for anti base on them. B; the inside heal completely fell apart, so by the end, i was getting blisters on the heal of my feet from rubbing against the plastic inside. C; might only be a small thing, but the plastic ends of the lacers came off after about 2 weeks, and the whole lacer started falling apart. D; when they got wet, they take about a week to dry out, so when its the only foot ware one has, (other than flip flops)having to put on wet heavy shoes is a pain in the hole. even got to the stage of putting my feet in plastic bags first to help keep them dry. Overall, a disgraceful boot, the quality was pathetic and pure rubbish, especially for the price of them. Maybe I got a bad pair out of a batch, but never again would I buy them.
Cons: everythingVery good shoes

I live in CNY. I bought these shoes for hiking and daily 3+ mile walks with my dog. CNY weather brings all kinds of elements year-round, so I wanted a solid pair of hiking/walking shoes. My daily walk varies between trails, roads, and sometimes mixed. Trail walking, these shoes are great. Very solid, keep my feet dry, comfortable out of the box, great sizing. They also look great. Walking on the road is not as comfortable as the trail walking. The shoes feel a bit clunky and heavy on longer road walks. Since these are built for trail use, I'll likely buy another pair of shoes for strictly road walks. I have been wearing these shoes for a couple of weeks now. On warmer, dry days, they do not seem to breath all that well. Gore-Tex tends to limit this in some shoes. Overall, I really like this shoe, and would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
Pros: fits perfectly, looks great, solid comfortable, Cons: a bit pricey, breathability, on the heavier sideMerrell Men's Chameleon 4 Ventilator GORE-TEX Shoes Photo
