Fit Tip: These Merrell shoes run true to size. The speed lacing system is easy to adjust allowing for comfort and security depending on the terrain and activity.
If going fast on trails is second nature, the easy-fitting Chameleon II Stretch is second skin. Built with more reinforcement material along the upper than most trail running shoes, Merrell's easy-access trail shoe features extra comfort and fit features like an elastic cord lacing system and convenient friction cordlock. Above the impact-absorbing Air Cushion® midsole is a contoured 4.5-mm. anatomical footbed backed by a supportive nylon 6.6 injection molded arch shank. The Vibram® Chameleon Sport sole looks narrower than some bulky hiking shoes, but Merrell divided the high traction sole between long-lasting Dura rubber lugs and grippy Versa rubber lugs for reliable hold on a range of surfaces. If you're looking for some extra weather protection, consider checking out the waterproof and breathable Merrell Chameleon II GORE-TEX® XCR® shoe.
Husband LOVES these shoes
My husband thinks these are the greatest shoes ever. Keeps buyin' them!!!
Pleasant surprise
All the reviews for this shoe led me to buy them for my husband. Although he has high arches and it was a struggle to get them on the first few times, he now wears nothing else--even to school for teaching on his feet all day. One stop shop shoe! Great for hiking, yardwork, etc.
Very Comfortable and Equally Durable
I've had the Merrell Chameleon II for 2 years now and they still look great. I bought a new pair cause I heard the shoe was going to be cancelled. So buy them while you can.

Great Shoes!!!
These are the most comfortable shoes I own. They required no break-in period. They are great for trail running and light hiking. I went with a 1/2 size larger then I normally wear and they fit perfectly.
All-Time Faves
These Merrell shoes are among my all-time favorite footwear. They are well designed, wonderfully fabricated, and the fit, for me, is about as good as it gets. They're like wearing a pair of big ol' socks, with Vibram soles on 'em. I'm on my third pair now. The first ones are still kicking after five years of steady use. I figured I'd better stock up now – while they're still available.
2nd pair that I have purchased
Since November when I purchased my fisrt pair of Chameleons I have walked 4.5 miles a day in them. They fit comfortably and my feet have never hurt. I decided to get the second pair before my first pair give out, but I believe I have many more miles before that happens.
THE BEST SHOES EVER MADE
DON'T STOP----WE NEED THESE---THEY ARE THE MOST SUPPORTIVE AND COMFORTABLE SHOES AROUND
On my 3rd pair and still loving them.
I've been wearing these since they came out and I can safely say they are one of my all time favorite pairs of shoes. I wear them on my 36 commutes between Salt Lake City and Qatar and my feet couldn't be happier. They are possible the perfect traveling shoe.
I've worn them all over Utah and OH in various terrain and weather conditions and have yet to have a single problem or issue.
I like them so much I have two extra pairs sitting in boxes in case Merrell stops making them like they did the other colors.
very comfortable light hiker
In the month I've had these Merrells I've worn them to the office, outside in the snow, and hiking through Death Valley. In every situation they've been very comfortable and well suited to the task.
At the office I loosen the shock cord laces for a loose comfortable fit. They're not dressy but when it's appropriate to be casual I like their look.
On the trail, I cinch them up to keep my feet securely positioned. The shock cord has just the right amount of give to ensure that my feet never feel like the circulation is getting cut off. They provide good traction on the trail and reasonable traction on glare ice.
If there is one criticism leveled against these shoes it is that they can be difficult to get on and off because of their relatively tight collar. This is a legitimate criticism -- although it does get easier over time. The upside to this is that the neoprene collar does a good job of keeping debris out of the shoe. This is a good trade off in my opinion.
Bottom line: Highly recommended!
Great shoes dry and warm
These shoes are terrific. I walk my dog in Prospect Park and I am amazed how dry and warm my feet are even though I walk in the snow to avoid the salted roads and paths. It was 16 F and they kept me toasty warm Great price and fast delivery
My Favorite Shoe EVER
Great Shoe!!! I've worn mine everyday for a year and they still look OK?!!Buy a half size larger than you normally wear.I have wide feet and these fit like a my Merrell sandals-I fits just tight enough to keep your foot snug, surprisingly durable.
Chameleon II is comfortable in any condition...
Great hiking shoe, all-around. The shoes slip on easily and the adjustable lacing system allows for a comfortable fit on any foot. The cushioning can absorb the shock of any rocky trail. I would get the GoreTex version of the shoe for snowy conditions. But for your hiking and site visit needs...this shoe is the BEST!
Very Comfortable!
I love these shoes they are very comfortable! However the only complain I have is that its a little warm with the GORE-TX, but other than that these are my favored Merrell shoe so far.
Merrell: Men's Chameleon II Stretch Hiking Shoe
Comfortable outdoor shoe. I highly recommend this shoe to anyone looking for comfort and versatility.
Chameleon II stretch hiker
I've finally found a very comfortable outdoor shoe. I highly recommend this shoe to anyone looking for comfort and versatility.
VERY comfy!
Just bought them today, its like I'm wearing clouds on my feet! HAHAHAHA! I am concerned about what I've heard about the inside heel part coming apart, so I'll just take them on and off like road runners, loosen laces all the way THEN slip foot out to reduce the stress on the shoe so it will last longer.
The best walking/hiking shoe
This is my second pair that I have bought. The first pair lasted me amost 3 years. I walk approximately 5 miles a day and these are the most comfortable shoes to walk in. It is like having your favorite pair of sneakers on right out of the box with no breakin time.I highly recommend these shoes for any walking or hiking activity.
Very nice shoe
Good all around urban trekking and light hiking shoe. I travel alot and have to pack light- I use them for walking, working out, hiking, etc. My 4th pair in 4 years.
True Merrell Comfort and Fit
These shoes are great, comfortable, cool, and excellent grip when on the train or climbing. I am writing this just before I purchase another pair. Excellent product.
Great Hiking Shoe with a sole that REALLY grips!
I selected this shoe to replace my backpacking sandals that have been discontinued and so far I have not been disappointed. Extremely comfortable with a cushioned feel and sole that grips better than my sandals ever did. I was looking for something to start the AT with this April and I have found the shoes I will wear. Though they are not sandals, they just may become even better.
Great Fit.
While I have not yet had time to put these to the test on the trail, their fit is terrific and I expect their outdoor performance to be the same.
great shoes
the chameleon II stretch hiking shoe is one of the best shoes I have had on my feet. Please let me know when these shoes come in size 14 in many colors thanks alot
Good Comfort - Great Traction!
Used these shoes for hiking/trail running and was quite impressed with support of the shoes and in particular the traction of the sole. I was able to maintain my pace and balance on decent after walking through mud. I was expecting to have to slow down as I was navigating which rocks to step on. I did not slip once. These shoes gripped very well on moderately slippery rocks. I recommend.
Great conformtable shoes
I have owned this shoes for about a year now. I have never had a shoes so comfortable and good looking.
Great shoe
These shoes fit perfect and are very comfortable even on the trails.
Excelent all around shoe
I've worn these in the 100 degree F 100% humidity weather in Florida and I've just recently worn them hiking/climbing in 30 degree F weather in Arizona. They kept my feet relatively cool and dry in Florida and surprisingly warm in Arizona. They also gave excelent traction on stone and loose rock/gravel. Just to test them out I stood on a roughly 70 degree incline and didn't slip at all! I'm extremely pleased with my purchase and would highly recomend these shoes.
Great Shoe
Possibly the best overall shoe I own. The day after I received these I bought another pair.
these rock!!
I hike, climb, repel, and mountain bike, and these do great in all.I hardly ever slip, and tere very cofterble. You get more than you pay for.
Best shoes by far
I recently purchased the most comfortable shoes ever. They exceeded my needs and every one at work is asking me how to get them. Durable, tough and my wife likes the look.
Best shoes you can buy!
Owned a few pairs of Merrells in my life and none of them have been a disappointment. Shall be taking them to Glastonbury next year I reckon :)
Most comfortable shoe I ever wore
I just puchased my 2nd pair and will continue to buy only these shoes. I wear them all day every day.I am in construction so I'm on my feet all day,and at the end of the day 11:00pm my feet are the only thing not sore on my body.I don't even go hiking, but I read a review on Altrec about somebody that bought them for a Disney World trip and loved them.I was going with my family and decided to purchase them and I am soooo glad I did. These are and will be my everyday shoe. LOVE THESE SHOES!!
They are incredible!
Finally a pair of climbing shoes that fit great, keep rocks out, no break in period, and look great.
Best shoes made.
I've tried many brands but after wearing these, I'm never going back to the others. Altrec got them to me faster than expected too. Thumbs up all the way.
Man vs Wild
I can now understand why Bear wears these shoes on the majority of his outings! They fit great, are comfortable, and can handle practically any environment. A well made shoe.
Awesome, Trail Running Shoes
Yes, I said, trail running shoes, because these shoes are hiking boots disguised as trail runners. I just took these shoes to Boulder, CO to hike and run in the Flatiron mountains, and they performed flawlessly. I didn't intend for them to be my trail runners, but it turned out they are so comfortable, that I just decided to run in them, and love them.
Well worth the $!!
Took them to Peru right out of the box. No break-in needed and very comfortable! The elastic laces do stretch a bunch during the first couple of wears but I can still get them snug enough. The "gator" top is nice too. Didn't get any rocks in the shoe the whole time. The grip is amazing on dry ground, didn't get a chance to try them on wet ground.
very comfortable
I really like this shoe, but it does have a tendency to hold water. Great for drier weather, though.
unbelievable pair of merrel's
just received this pair of Merrell's and can't stop wearing them. I was nervous at first because the picture looked sort of purple, but it turned out to be just smoke gray; the light brown are amazing and advise this specific pair. comfortable and easy to wear and i am loving not having to tie my shoes. thanks Merrel
Awesome!!!
These passed the 6 hour acid test in Arizona desert and streams. My only gripe is that after being wet for several hours moisture did seem to start seeping through. I don't know if Gore Tex is supposed to do that. Anyway, these are my new favorites hands down!
Killer shoes!
I took a job selling shoes and boots for a major outdoor sporting goods retailer before the Christmas season and my feet were killing me, no matter what shoe I tried (Ecco, New Balance, Rockport, etc.) A friend recommended these Merrells and they saved my neck. Combined with a good quality wool sock, I can stay on my feet all day with absolutely no problem. I just bought another pair so that I can alternate them to extend their useful life. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these shoes to anyone, period.
My only complaint is that they aren't exactly the most attractive shoes I've ever owned, but then again, I'm a geezer. They're probably quite the fashion statement among younger people.
Great for doing light hiking or just chillin'
I wore these shoes for dry weather desert hiking on small rocky hills and for just bouncing around. You don't ever need to tie any laces which is great if you are lazy.
great shoe!!!!!!
these shoe feel great this is the first pair of merrells i have own and i believe I will be sticking with the brand for a very long time. I have knee problems so finding a comfortable shoe can be hard sometimes but i couild tell right when i put these on that they felt great one my knee which is something hard to find i had a pair of the nike air max 360 before I had these and I have to say these shoes have a better feel then the air max 360 does which is amazing to me because nike says that the air max 360 is the best shoe on the market and I used to think that until I tried a pair of these shoes I have put the air max 360 up and have not worn them since somebody needs to tell nike to try these shoes on and change there slogan about the air max 360.
Favorite Shoes
These shoes are perfect for me. I wear them for everything from hiking to jetskiing (on the ski) and even body surfing. These are my everyday shoes too and I have had 4 pairs throughout 6 years. That may seem like a lot but I normally wearout shoes in a few months. I love the stretch/slip-on style and that is mostly why I choose them. I take off my shoes each and everytime I come into my house and these are easy slip-on/slip-off. No laces to mess with yet they stay secure on your feet in and out of the water.
nike shox
nike should improve their nike shox sector in shoes because they dont provide enough comfort and technology to the customers
Great shoes
After trying Keen's Targhee and Ochoco, I ended up with the Chameleon. I really love them. They were ready to go off the box with no breaking in required. The toe area was easy on me. This was primarily a problem with the Keens. It looks good and feels good too.
So...comfortable!
The other reviews speak the truth. These are very comfortable shoes and I feel like I can wear them anywhere. They fit like a sock with sole. Slipping them on is different but the fit is great.
the shoes are great...
The comfort level of the shoe is impecable. For use in areas with different terrain types it is the ideal shoe.
fantastic
I love these shoes. I love the innovative laces and how the shoe fit me like a glove the first time I put them on They are great for hiking and climbing and for just wearing around town. Good ankle support too.
Love 'em!
These are my second pair of Chameleon IIs and I consider them the best fitting, most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. The shoe hugs my foot and I could wear them even without tightening uo the shoe's unique lacing system.
They also give me great support--especially for walking on uneven surfaces like a gravel path or broken pavements.
Their comfortable fit aside, they have a wonderful look and always get compliments. I wear them everywhere: for hikes through the park, in the office, to casual summer parties.
The Best!
I bought my first pair 1 1/2 years ago and now have 3! Not because they are wore out either, just liked having a few to change around. I've had 2 foot surgeries and worked on concret. These are the best around for anyone with bad feet or if you work on concret. Thanks Merrell!!
Ultra-comfortable!
I had been wanting these shoes for about two years now, and I finally broke down and bought myself a pair. Altrec had a better price than the local stores plus, a better selection and free shipping. These shoes are so comfortable, I almost wore them to bed! A little pricey, but if they hold up for a few years, they will be worth the money. Great construction and easy to get off and on. Gel foot-sole inserts makes the fit/feel even better!
Fantasic Shoes And Service
These are the most comfortable shoes ever. I hate to take them off. I wear them at the gym and at work where I am on my feet alot also great drum playing shoes. These shoes simply cannot be beat.My only regret is I did not discover these shoes sooner. The advise about getting the 1/2 size larger was helpful and true in my case. For variety and based on the quality of these shoes I also purchased a pair of the Chameleon II Gore-Tex XCR wish is also an excellent shoe with different characteristics. I also plan on purchasing another pair of these. The Reviews were also very helpful in my purchase. with Altrec' s fast -free shipping what can I say. Thanks from a very satisfied customer !
Better than Nike!
5 years ago I went to work at Home Depot. (Previously I had worked desk jobs in office towers). I noticed that everyone was wearing Nikes so I followed suit. Soon afterwards I began to have foot, let and back pain. One very rainy day (I work in outside garden) I decided to work my Merrell hiking boots in order to have dry feet. At the end of the day it dawned on me that my feet, legs and back did not hurt! I stopped wearing casual shoes and wore hiking boots every day. I later discovered the Merrell Chameleons and bought them for summer wear. They are incredible! As a result of my experience, co-workers are making the switch, too. It is hard to justify the cost of Merrells when we earn very little, however, we have come to consider it as an investment. And, the Merrells last much longer than casual shoes. Every time I encounter a new employee in the breakroom complaining about lower body pain, I recommend Merrells to them
Great shoe at a great price
I received my Chameleons, jumped right in them and took a quick hike. This is not a shoe for rugged climbing, obviously, but it will handle a moderate hiking trail. The neoprene collar does a decent job of keeping trail junk out. The vibram soles provide decent traction in loose gravel and mud but slip a bit on wet rocks. They are very comfortable and easy to snug up. The excess draw-string easily slips under the lower lacing and stays put. You may want to buy a half size larger. Mine fit kinda snug. There is no break-in required at all. I am very impressed with this shoe and the build quality appears to be excellent. While not the lightest of shoes, they are not heavy. The shoe is comfortable and suitable for everyday knock-around use too.
Very comfortable
This is his second pair of merrell sneakers and he wouldn't choose any other type. He works retail on concrete floors and never complains that his feet hurt at the end of the day.
Laces? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Laces
This is the absolute best pair of outdoor shoes I've owned. They are fantastic for summer wear. I have them matched up with my favorite moldable footbeds and they work great on smooth surface hikes. They breathe well and look great.
Even Springsteen would love these shoes
Well after my 7th pair, oh and when I saw the RED I started shaking and I ordered the RED before they even came out yet.
I do love these shoes.
I were an 8 in most shoes, the pair of these that are size 8 are tight on me. I only buy them in 8.5, they slip on great and I like the room.
Thanks Merrell, how many pair do I have to buy before I get a free pair?
My teen loves them.
I found the Merrell chameleon 2s for my son at altrec after searching our local mall with no luck.
He loves the comfort and style.
I found my online experience @ altrec easy and the shoes were here before I expected.
great shopping here.
Fantastic!!!!!
These are, without a doubt, the most comfy shoes I've ever owned. They feel like an old pair of slippers right out of the box -- and then they get even better.
Stable plus all day comfort
Merrell makes some of the most comfortable shoes/boots available, and the Chameleon is no exception.
The built in sock provides a firm hold on your foot without having to tightened up too much. The feel of the fit is differen that any othe shoe out there - like a durable slipper.
The shoes are stable enough for an aggressive train run and provide all day comfort. The Vibram sole is durable and offers good grip on most surfaces - even wet boulders. I wondered how the shoes would hold up with the low sole profile, but they have taken me over a wide range of terrain without a single problem.
If you're looking for a quality built shoe that you can wear all day, then you can't go wrong with these.
Decent hiking shoe
Adequate fit given the stretch-lace configuration. A bit too hot, in my opinion. Wish it were more breathable.
Great shoe with only a minor glitch
This is the first time I've ever loved a shoe enough to reorder the exact same shoe when the first one finally wore out. Bought my first pair two years ago, and the only glitch was the rubber that wraps up the front of the shoe came a little loose within a month, which even the local dealer said is a common problem, but not so bad that I couldn't wear them. Nor did it ever get worse. These are undoubtedly the the most comfortable shoe I've owned that is also versatile enough for both light hiking and everyday use at work. Pair #1 resisted stains and still looked good two years later, but I had nearly worn the soles off!
Great fitting hiking shoe
Great shoe overall...sock thickness can impact ft, however, with the stretch cord lacing.
The best shoe for hiking
My second pair of Chameleon Ii! tow different color same performance, great
Excellent multisport shoe.
Excellent multisport shoe. Fit is excellent as is the transition whilst walking/ hiking, etc. One note…very warm. Ensure you wear wicking socks.
the bomb
greatest shoes i have ever had i've bought in about two pair so far and will continue to get all the color they make
Good to wear for trail run and walk
One of the good shoes that I bought. comfortable. some negatives, I found the inner sole less cushioned and can be irritating on rough rocky trails. A little hard to get the feet in if your feet is between medium and wide or have a raised upper foot.
The Best Shoes
Infact I have worn the shoes about 10 hours ago, and they are FANTASTIC!!! The Marrell Chameleon II Stretch...awesome. Actually, its even better than the Chameleon XCR because of its flexability. Unlike the Stretch, The XCR is kindof like walking in a brick. And its ugly in the front. Nice design, but too rocky and mountainous for me. Chameleon II Stretch: Rating - 9
Very Comfortable
I bought these shoes as a everyday casual shoe. I think I'll be wearing them for just about every activity I can conjure up from biking to running. Fit is awesome right out of the box.
great shoe!
The chameleon II stretch is an awsome shoe. The vibram soles are light and seem to hold up very well on most surfaces. They keep my feet cool when most other shoes would fail miserably. The only negative thing I have to say about this shoe is that it is a little hard to get into because it is a slip-on.
