This shoe is a light weight breathable shoe that doesn't need to be broke in. It performs well on my feet and trail usage on lengthy hikes a couple of times a week. If you like Merrell's you stand a great chance of liking these. Sizing is true.

I bought my first pair of Chameleon Wraps in December of 2005 and have been wearing them ever since. Although a little heavier than most shoes in this catagory, the Wrap makes up for it in style, comfort, and stability. The Gore-Tex is a great feature and highly recommended. My new Chameleons arrived about a week ago and I am as pleased as ever!

Perfect fit and very well made. Built like a high end Nikon camera.
Have used the "Wrap" exclusively as an everyday shoe, including long hikes and for cycling. Will purchase an extra pair as insurance in the event they stop making them or change specs.

These shoes are amazingly comfortable and rugged. They hug the foot like a boot but still have the feel of a sneaker. They're lightweight and the gore-tex is a lifesaver on the trails.
Cannot recommend these shoes enough for any hiker/camper/backpacker.

This shoe has a very good fit and with a great deal of support. I was very surprise at how well my feet stayed dry,while walking in wet grass. Also,I found this shoe to be very comfortable, since,I walk over five mile a day as a meter reader in most un-seasonable weather in northeast Ohio.

The the shoes were as described. I debated about the sizing and after reading reviews here bought a 1/2 size larger than I usually wear and was glad that I did. The shoe feels more like a boot in stiffness and support. I have chosen boots in the past (Salomon) to support my ankle and find similar support in this shoe. I don't get that feeling that I'm about to roll my ankle on irregular surfaces. My feet have stayed dry while walking in wet grass but I found the grip a little slippery on smooth and wet surfaces like pavement and brick streets. The quality seems good but I noticed the rubber wrap around the body of the shoe where it attaches to the toe cap was separating from the leather after I first wore them. Time will tell how they wear. I was really pleased with how fast they were delivered.

These Merrell XCR Gore-Tex Chameleons are in a class by themselves. I have big flat feet and I need to have super strong shoes or else my orthotics ruin the shoes and my feet hurt. I've hiked, and walked and worked in these shoes, and they wear like iron. I have two pair, and I'm gonna get another as soon as they get another color combo. Try these shoes if you're a big guy who beats the hell out of normal shoes. You won't be disappointed.

I have a slight shoe fetish. I'm most interested in running/active lifestyle shoes. The Merrell brand caught my eye at Dicks and I did some research. These are quite simply the greatest shoes I've ever owned. They are built with a quality and workmanship that I've never experienced before. I did flip out the insoles for replacement ones when I pulled them from the box so I can't speak about the ones that came in the shoes. Merrell seem to have a shoe for every season so it may take a few years but some day all of my shoes will be Merrell instead of adidas for this and nike for that... Outstanding shoes, great company.

My size is normally 10.5, but I needed this fine hiker in size 11 to fit. The hikers are terrific and really good in wet conditions. This is another top quality shoe from Merrell!!!

Can't say enough about how much I like this shoe. Real comfortable and only took me about 5 miles of hiking before they were completely wore in. Much more heavy duty arch than the Merrell Chameleon II. Takes you to that next level for climbing over boulders and rough terrain, where the Chameleon II falls a bit short.

On a 6 mile hike, they performed excellent. They support the ankle and heel area surprisingly well. They kept my feet dry in the rain and warm in the cold. The chameleons can also be worn on city walks and other activities

The Merrell that I wanted wasn't in stock so I paid a little more and got this one instead. It fitted loose when trying it on and walking the first couple of days. After a week or so it broke in. It is now a supper comforable shoe. This is the second set of Merrells that I have purchased and I couldn't be happier.

I have had these shoes for two months now and have hiked over 160 miles in them with very little noticeable wear. they have been great on river rocks wet or not and stick like glue to the dry surface. I hike with a thirty lb bag and these shoes provide great support. these are the best light hikers I have ever had. i typically average over 200 miles per year on day to light hikers. I am buying two extra pair to assure I will have these for several years.

I went walking along a river trail with mossy granite stones near my house in Boston. No trouble on slick stuff but i've had the shoes for a few months to "wear in" the soles. Lots of tread left. Very comfortable. I could walk for days.

Well I have had these for just over two months of daily use. I do not normally buy gortex boots/shoes as my feet sweat a lot but as these are low cut it does not seem to be too much of a problem (let's face it gortex is not as breatable as skin!). The shank gives excellent support under foot and all in all they seem quite robust.
The only downside seems to be what appears to be the need for a little more protection under the big toe area and the laces which even when double knotted seem to come undone.
Finally nice wide fitting for saskatchewan like myself ;-)

Ron - 2008-01-23Good shoe fit - except around the ankles
I like everything about the shoe with one exception - the ankle cutout is too high. These are great shoes. They fit well and feel secure. The sole of shoe has great traction and the portion that cover the toe and heel are great. My only complaint is the cutout for the ankle does not give the ankles enough room. This can be irritating and you must wear a thick enough sock to provide the ankles some protection from over-abrasion.

This is the third pair of Merrell footwear I have bought. Like all the others the build quality is awesome. This pair will take a long time to kill. The problems I have with this shoe is that it never really becomes comfortable. It gets really overheated, the insole feels as inviting as a pancake left in the freezer 3 months, and overall it is a clunky shoe. Toward the end of a 5 week trip to Peru, I became reluctant when faced with putting them on. So now that I have given the bad, I shall give the good. As mentioned before, build quality. They will never ever let you down. Your feet will never get wet from the outside of the shoe. Best in colder temps. Sticky tread that boosts confidence on wet terrain and dry.
Best Use Bottom Line: Cool and Wet Hiking without a concern for rocky or muddy trails

I want these shoes to work for me. They are what I was looking for in terms of providing support and protection for my feet as well as being relativity light. My issue is with the sizing. My shoe size is a ten I got these at a 10.5. My feet were uncomfortable at the ankles, I have placed risers is the shoe and that has improved but these shoes may still not fit right for the mountains of the Appalacian Trail. I am concerned that my toes will be jammed up in the toe box. It seems I will have reserve judgement.

You can expect to fall over if you ever wear these shoes in wet conditions. In the dry they are fine, but if it has been raining in the recent past the grip on these shoes is terrible.
