Chameleon3 Stretch
May 19, 2011

I just got these shoes and started wearing them on hikes. I've liked them right from the beginning. First of all, they're good looking. Even enough so that you could wear them to school or work. Second of all, they're comfortable. I'm used to having to really break in a pair of hiking shoes before they stop hurting my feet, but with these shoes, the neoprene is soft and stretchy, so it hasn't seemed like I've really needed a break-in period at all to get comfortable. The only thing I had a hard time with was choosing the color because there are so many to choose from. If these hold up and last a while, I may buy another pair so I have one to go with brown clothes and one to go with black.

Pros: stylish and comfortable

I love these shoes!
January 24, 2011

I was a touch skeptical the day I received these shoes because there didn't seem to be fore-aft flex in the sole - however, I've been wearing them every day for a couple of weeks now, they broke in very quickly, and I have now completely forgotten my initial apprehension. These shoes are EXTREMELY COMFORTABLE and I love being able to slip them on without having to tie shoelaces. I previously had a pair of Merrell sandal-type shoes that I literally wore out and had to replace - I was concerned that I would like these shoes as well, but now that I've been wearing them, I'm happy to say I do. I must conclude that Merrell makes very, very comfortable shoes and I would highly recommend these for every-day use.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, comfort, Cons: none

Comfortable and lightweight yet rugged. I have owned this style shoe before and have hiked, climbed rocks, run and just about everything outdoors. Great Shoe.

I have been a long time fan of Merrell. These live up to the Merrell name. Comfortable, decent arch support, and with a sporty casual look. Would recommend to anyone.

These are extremely comfortable and provide wonderful support to the foot. The elastic ties are quick and easy. This is my first pair of Merrell shoes and I am looking now for a pair for work.

Great
December 08, 2009

Forget about breaking them in, the shoes were comfortable from the start. Wear extremely well and make my hikes more enjoyable.

Best pair of shoes I own
December 25, 2009

These are the second pair of Merrell Chameleon shoes I've owned. I purchased the first pair many years ago. I like the new Chameleon 3s much more. They are lighter, easier to slip on, fit and look great. I went with a darker color because my older lighter colored pair got dirty very quickly.

Excellent Shoe..

December 01, 2010

This is my 2nd pair of Merrill shoes. Love the fit & quality. Great for on & off trail. Fits like a glove.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use

Very good!
January 26, 2010

My last Merrell Chameleon, model 50601 has been worn for over 5 years. Was hoping to get the same shoe again but not available. These do not fit like the earlier models. I had to go up another half size 11, to get the same fit as 101/2 on the former model. Bring back the 50601!

So far so good
May 24, 2010

well I've only had them for 2 weeks now but they have done the job so far. good for hiking and around town but a little heavy for long trail runs. i read one of the reviews here and it told me to go a half size up because they run small and that was not a good idea. but i will definitely be purchasing an other pair

These are some of the best shoes I have ever owned! These are my second pair, and the Bracken color is very nice and looks good with a lot of things. These have great grip on the bottom for outdoors when hiking or camping. I highly recommend these shoes.

Love these shoes
January 08, 2012

I first bought a pair for day-hiking. After breaking them in during everyday life, I was disappointed to put them away until I was going hiking. So I bought a second pair to wear everyday! I love these shoes. I always hated tying shoes, so these are awesome. I am actually going to by a third pair so I can keep them lasting longer. BUY THEM

Great outdoor shoe
December 06, 2010

Just bought these shoes a few weeks ago and now, after putting in some good miles, they are excellent. The first night I went to a hockey game and wore low cut socks. The upper part of the back of the right shoe cut into my foot. Small cut but switched to longer socks the next couple weeks. Put in a good couple hours at the park every other or third day and can say that now, after breaking them these shoes in, I am impressed. Haven't done anything too extreme with them yet but as far as being comfortable, well made, grippy, water resistant (which was awesome the day it was a light rain and I way dry for almost 2 hours) and breathable, I am happy with my first Merrell purchase. Oh, and the drawstring instead of the laces is down right awesome. And it doest stick out like something bad like a Velcro shoes, ha. (Sorry Velcro shoe supporters)

Chameleon Streach Best Shoe Ever.
April 19, 2011

Many people believe that here in South Africa we do not wear shoes at all, while this is sometimes true, most of us do.I am fit, 57 years of age, weight 85 kg,and 6'1"inches tall and love the outdoors. Not with standing the fact that I have worn out 3 pairs of Chameleon Streach shoes, these are undoubtedly the best and most comfortable shoes I have ever had the pleasure of wearing. Reason being: 1.Comportable beyond belief. 2.Long lasting. 3.Unbelievable grip in the wet and dry. 4.Easy to slip on. 5.Good looking. 6.Strong and durable. 7.Simple tying mechanism. The reason I have worn out so many pairs is because I wear them 24/7, work and play. I am fortunate to be able to wear them to work every day as I own a motor related fitment franchise that is very tough on shoes. I am sure many of you have experienced the need to remove ones work shoes as soon as you walk through the front door, not so with the Streaches.I could sleep with them on,not that I think the wife would approve. I would unquestionably recommend this model of shoe to anyone prepared to listen. Well done Merrell you have created something truely special. Best Regards from sunny South Africa Adie

A great pair of shoes
April 17, 2010

This is by far one of the best, most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. This is my fourth pair of stretch chameleons. The arch support is great, the fit is perfect and no rubbing on the heel! You can put on a brand new pair and they feel like you have already worn them -no breaking in time! I love not having to tie my shoes anymore - and yet they don't slip off like other shoes.

After standing all day these are great to slip on and relax in. Around the house, running errands and especially long drives with your 6-speed manual, they are very comfortable. They're not for hiking - not enough support for me. Best with socks as they can get a little 'sticky' in hot weather.

I would recommend with a little hesitation
August 24, 2011

I would recommend these hiking shoes with two exceptions: if you are doing a multi-day backpacking trip and they didn't last nearly as long as expected. For day hikes and wearing around casually, these shoes are great. I found them quite comfortable and didn't have the problems with the heal that others have reported. I wore them to work a few times and thought they felt great. They had good stability and grip on the few steep, loose gravel hikes I did. For longer trips, hot spots were a little bothersome, but didn't turn into blisters. In my opinion there wasn't enough support in the sole for long miles with a heavy pack because my feet got really sore and tired. The advantage of these on the multi-day trip though wis that they are lightweight. The last thing I would say about these is that they didn't last as long as expected. I had them a little over a month (three day hikes and one five-day trip for a total of about 60 miles) before sending them back because the sole was detaching from the upper part of the shoe.

Pros: lightweight, comfortable, grip/stability, Cons: durability

Doesn't fit like it used to
November 20, 2009

This is my 4th pair of Chameleon Stretches; obviously I've liked them, but these 3rd generation ones are narrower than the 1st and 2nd generations. And wearing them for a day hurts me in the Achilles tendon area - the 1st generation ones I got I actually wore for a 13 mile hike the first day I wore them with no pain. I still think they are a good looking shoe, and the stretch part makes you wonder why we ever bother tying laces. Maybe they will fit you better, but they don't fit like they used to.

Men's Chameleon3 Stretch Shoe
April 20, 2011

Most comfortable shoe available. I work on my feet all day and these shoes keep be comfortable all day. Only drawback is longevity. Last pair only lasted about 4 months until the sole came apart from leather. Hoping Merrill made improvements, plus Altrec stands behind everything so you have nothing to lose.

Terrific Shoe
November 29, 2010

I've been a Merrell customer for years, mostly the mocs, and have been very happy with them. After owning these Chameleons for about a month I think I have been converted! They have a very comfortable, light fit and seem to hold up very well. Would recommend to those who are looking for a lighter alternative to their mocs.

Comfortable shoes
June 27, 2011

Great comfortable shoe, well ventilated. I can stand in these shoes for hours and my feet are not sore at the end of the night. I have never worn a merrell shoe that I did not like. A great work shoe and true to fit.

Favorite line of shoe with one exception
April 21, 2010

I love the Chameleon Stretch series of shoe. I was a proud owner of the C. Stretch 2 for about two years, and decided to buy the new version when my old pair finally wore out. This new pair of shoes really wears on my heels. The shoe perhaps need to be broken in, as the top of the heel of the shoe is a little overzealous in curving up to your heel. The stitching thus rubs and creates a sore spot. I have tried thicker and thinner socks, and have just resorted to wearing band-aids and duct tape over the blisters until these break in. If it doesn't happen in a few weeks I'll see if I can get a replacement pair of shoes -- maybe this pair is defective. Overall, however, I am not disappointed with the new version. The elastic cord/lace has a better joint this time around and the overall quality seems to have stayed the same.

Great Shoe, Great Experience!
March 19, 2011

I was skeptical about this shoe and it's "closure" mechanism. Let me tell you that after wearing them for a few days, I can not only say that the Friction Cordlock works great, but I believe the shoe is actually more comfortable due to it. I have always loved slip-on shoes for their convenience, but liked lace shoes for their ability to customize the tightness. With slip-ons you get ease of use as well as not having to worry about laces becoming untied. With laced up shoes, well, they are very comfortable but the laces can plain out get in the way (biking for example) or get plain out messy if they drag on the ground. I am a 6'2" male and am usually pretty rough on my footwear as I hover around 220lbs. After analyzing the shoe construction, and now having worn them for awhile, I have to believe they should hold up to the day to day abuse they will receive. I am hoping they are everything I believe them to be as I am going to base my next purchase on this experience. I have never owned a pair of Merrell shoes before and am looking forward to purchasing more based on the experience with this model. Once again, first impression are as follows. These shoes are comfortable, provide a good fit (Size 13) as I also have a high arch and a wide foot and these shoes appear to accomodate me on both counts. I'm happy with the shoes and I am happy with Altrec. What more can a person desire from their purchasing experience.

Great idea, poor execution
October 13, 2010

I love the style and the idea of the Stretch. It's easy to slip on and scramble around on the rocks with. The quick pull elastic laces are great for when you need a little more support. However I have owned two pairs of these shoes and on each the soles have started to separate from the shoes at the toe within just a couple of months. Of coarse I put a lot of pressure on my shoes, so if you just wear them around town you might be okay. The good news is that Merrell's warranty department has been great.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost, Poor quality
