Gary Foley - 2009-02-18The BEST mid-hiker money can buy, period!
Look no farther, if you want a mid-hiker with tremendous tread (way better and more rugged than is pictured above), along with perfect weight, fit and performance then go with the Perimeter Gore-Tex Hiking boot!
I took these out the first day I got them and put them to the test hiking through snow, then the next day beat them up in the muddy/water soaked trails and they were awesome -- they were soaked on the outside, but dry on the inside! Better still, these boots do not need to be tightly laced on top, in fact a modest-tightened boot, especially where the top bend is is best. Bottom line, you will love the fit -- way better than just a shoe, and not overley-ridged like a heavier full-pack boot. Order a pair and you'll see just what I'm talking about!

My travels have me hiking anywhere from the Olympics to the Adirondacks and I have to say these boots have become my new favorites. Stable, comfortable, and they keep my feet dry. Right out of the box, I took a short hike here in the Midwest where I live. They were so comfortable and I was so confident in their fit and performance that I took them (just days later) for 2 weeks in the Cascades. I am tempted to buy another pair just to keep on hand for when these eventually wear out!
Just one note.... the soles on my boots look different than the bottom view shown here. I only mention that as I absolutely love the grip of my soles. The have good lugs that clear well and they are a slightly soft so they grip slick surfaces better than any other boot I have ever owned.
I normally wear these with 30-40lbs of camera equipment on my back and I am no lightweight myself. They are very stable on steep trails and these still feel great after spending several days in the mountains.

First off I'm a Merrell man. I don't really have any other boots to compare these too. However, I do have horrible feet. My feet generally hurt after any activity. These boots are of high quality and take care of my feet well. Very happy with these boots.

The boots fit real well and are pretty comfortable. I live and hike in Wisconsin. We have had a lot of snow this winter. I have used the boots with and without snowshoes, and the boots have kept my feet warm and dry in both cases. Shipping of the boots was very quick. In about a day and a half after I ordered the boots, the boots were on my front porch.

I've been a long time fan of Merrell shoes, but this was my first boot purchase from them. I ordered the same size of boot that I wear in their shoes. They fit right out of the box better than numerous other boots I tried. The heel fits great and the toe box is very roomy. I've been wearing them around town as a break in period without any hotspots or problems. Being new to hiking boots, I'm not sure if they should fit a tad more snug, but I would recommend to others to start with your normal shoe size. I don't feel my foot sliding around at all, but then again I'm not on rough terrain with a weighted pack. At worst I will wear a liner/thicker sock to compensate. Thus far I am pleased with my purchase.
