The boot is a quality boot; however, I have a special need on one foot and this particular boot did not work with that need. The boot would work well for hiking or general use for someone without an injured foot.
Pros: well madebest purchase the peak

the merrell phaser peak is a well constructed , well designed light hiking boot . once i got it's closure system down they fit like a glove . i wear smartwool brand socks year 'round and the sizing is spot-on . the toe protection is real nice and should help these boots last . the heel cup and merrell air cushion make them step right . the vibram sole is contoured and stick really nice on slippery rocks . i'm glad i chose these boots , ro buyers remorse here , great value .
Truely, an exceptional boot!

Merrell`s Phaser Peak is an excellent cool/cold weather hiking boot. I first discovered this boot in `08, in Seattle, before going on to Alaska on a hunting trip. This boot is extremely comfortable, waterproof and warm. I always wear a half size up in Merrell footwear. For example, I wear a 10.5 Cole Haan and with Merrell, I wear an 11. If you wear a midweight or heavyweight sock you may need to think about ordering a whole size larger boot. I have two pairs of Phaser Peaks for this purpose. This boot is durable and will quickly become a hiking/hunting favorite. Truely, an exceptional boot!
Pros: durable, waterproof, comfortableGreat All-Around Boot

I traded in a pair of Keen Kalamath boots for the Merrell Phaser and I am happy I did so. These boots are stiff, supportive, waterproof and warm. I have had them out snowshoeing with a pair of Smartwool midweight hiking socks and my feet were toasty but not sweating. Can't really speak to the durability yet, but the constructions seems to be much better than the Keen's. The fit is much preferred to the Keen boots, I find the Keen to be too wide and my feet slip around no matter how tight the laces are.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, fit, warmthNew Purchase

My job on a camera crew requires me to be on my feet for long hours in all weather conditions. This shoe gives good support and is waterproof. The season determines how thick of a wool sock to wear. It can be hot in the summer, so I use it for fall, early winter and spring.
