like this barefoot shoe
November 17, 2011
I have worn these just a few times so far - just walking around, not running yet. I bought them for winter running - primarily because they have Gortex to keep my feet dry during my runs. I have been doing minimalist thing with Vibram 5 fingers Bikilas , but my toes and feet get cold and wet running outside in cooler weather. I had to return the first pair I ordered because of a defective seam on the inside. So far, I like the replacement pair that I received. This pair doesn't have the seam problem, making them more comfortable right away. Since they are leather, they are definitely stiffer than the Pace Glove (which I also have). So, I found they need a little break in time, which is what I am doing right now - before I run in them. I have a wide foot and these felt a little narrow at first, but they have already stretched and conformed to my foot in just a couple of wearings. I like how these shoes look for just wearing around for everyday things, too. I think the barefoot technology does help my posture and has strengthened my legs. I want to wear barefoot shoes as much as I can (not just for running) for that reason. And the Merrells give that barefoot feel without the 'monkey toes' so I feel comfortable wearing them everyday. As far as size goes, they seem to run pretty true to size, but they definitely fit like a glove If you wear more than a thin sock, you might want to size up a half size. I like them without socks, so I bought my regular size. Once I start running in them, I will see how warm and dry they keep my feet.
