Superb
May 26, 2012

I'm a huge fan of Merrell products (esp boots and shoes) for their quality, durability, details, comfort and style, and this jacket is typical Merrell greatness. Thin, fitted and lightweight (so no bulk on or off) but it seems very warm, as warm as my current, 10-year old more puffy down jacket which it will replace. I got the Darbie jacket at the end of the cold season so only had a chance to wear it in chilly windy 40-42 F temps but it was plenty warm for that so I think it will fare well in the colder temps with layers under. The fit is great: I'm 5'4", 125 lbs, normally wear a 4-6 S and got the S in this--perfect fit, and my heaviest merino fleece fits excellently underneath and it still looks streamlined. The zippers are great, and there are lined pockets on the outside, a mesh zippered pocket on the inside and also inside stash pockets for sunglasses, energy bars, etc. The collar is high and provides good coverage. As for color, I think the matte black finish is supremely stylish (I prefer it over shiny fabric) and the fabric feels as soft as silk. Am really looking forward to putting this on when the cold weather comes back! And Altrec shipping was super fast and efficient, as always.

Love, Love this coat!

This coat is great, light weight but warm! It is very stylish and neither tight nor "boxy". The pockets are lined so provide warmth for the hands. I am 5'3", 112 and the small fits perfectly and goes well over a sweater.

Best Down jacket for my job
April 03, 2012

This is my first down jacket by Merrell and I thinks it fits perfectly for my job on location. It is light to carry and it allows all kinds of movement while we are filming around freezing areas of Tahoe. I would reccomend it 100%.. Now I want to look for merrell snow boots.

Good Transitional Jacket
January 27, 2012

This is my second Merrill Darbie Down Jacket. I love the comfort that much, and now own one in Sangria, and Black. It is soft, comfortable, not at all bulky. The soft collar is what I like the best as it folds down easily or sits straight up if you want to keep chill from your neck. I would not wear the jacket in extreme cold. At 800 fill power goosedown, seems extremely thin. Yes, as prior reviewers have mentioned, a feather now and then works it way out, but no big deal. I snip it off where it protrudes. That's the nature of all goosedown jackets. All in all, this jacket is perfect for the transition between really cold and chilly early spring. I wear a size 10-12, and got the large so I can wear a bulky sweater underneath, but if you're on the small side of 10, a medium might work best.
