Great initial comfort and fit!
June 26, 2010
Having worn other hikers, this had the best initial feel and fit but after a few hours on pavement, I felt arch discomfort in my right foot which I've not felt before. I might not take them on my trip in August.
Fantastic Shoe

I own the moab ventilator low hiking show but at times my ankles ache so I thought I would try this. I have had now for about two weeks and they are just as comfortable as the low show but lots of extra support at the ankle. Adjusting to the new show has been no problem - no blisters, sore spots, etc. I'm preparing for my hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and I know I have found the shoe!
Another solid boot from Merrell
August 04, 2012
Solid boot, quality materials, durable, and light weight. Excellent for summer hiking. I find merrell runs a bit small. Only half a size, esp if you prefer thicker socks. I normally wear a 10, but in Merrell I take a 10.5. If you like thin socks, then it might run true for you. I wore my last pair of merrell boots for 10 years and I am expecting these will be on my feet just as long.
Pros: quality, durable, breathable, lightweightAlready own the Merrell Moab Ventilator Mid Hiking Shoe? Tell us your thoughts.
Lighweight

Lightweight and comfortable these are the best boots I have ever owned. Perfect!
super!!!

First i would like to say that Altrec is a very good company to deal with. Their shipping is stated clearly, the customer service is very helpful and polite, and their return policy is easy and they actually follow through with what they state. As for the Moab Hiker...love it! Very comfortable. I wore them right out of the box on a long walk to test them out. There is no breaking them in like other boots I have had. It is like wearing a slipper like someone else had said, yet great support and comfort with walking. I can't wait to test them in the Smokies. Thanks!
Like wearing slippers!

I removed these boots from the box and went hiking in the white mountains for 5 days......not a single blister nor rubbing or soreness. I highly recommend these boots. They feel like you are wearing slippers!

Very comfortable

I just bought these shoes and have only worn them around the house so far but after a couple of hours I decided I don't have to "break them in" for my hiking trip next week. They don't require it. Great boot!
Great support

I received these boots for Christmas. I loved them as soon as I put them on. They are very comfortable and lightweight. They feel great because they provide great support to my arch and my ankles. I have used them for everyday as well as light hiking already and they are faaabulous!

Third Pair - Another Charm!
March 15, 2012
Merrell really has a hit with the Moab Ventilator shoes. This is my third pair - mostly because I've been wearing them for years, ever since they first came to market. These shoes are comfortable, almost like slippers. And living in the high desert mountains (southern Rockies) of NM, these shoes are well ventilated so that my feet do not get too overheated (or the rest of me). They don't wear out readily. I've just had several occasions of moving very heavy loads that caused the midsoles to crimp. So I just keep replacing one pair with another as needed. Love 'em!
Pros: light enough, cool, comfortableI'm picky & these are comfy

I wore these around the house for an evening and after an hour, I forgot I had them on (and I'm one of those people who takes my shoes off as soon as I get in the house). The next day I wore them for a 7 mile 2,000' elevation gain hike and they were awesome. Fit is true to size. Good arch support. Toes were comfortable going down steep inclines for long periods of time. My old boots were good, but no matter how well I had them laced up, they weren't as kind to my feet when going downhill. Worth the money.
light and comfortable

Great for moderate hiking. Have better grip then the hard sole boots. Love the mid-length as it gives me enough support but does not compromise my mobility.

Very Comfortable

I bought these last minute before a hiking/camping trip and wore them for the first time out of the box. They were great, felt comfortable, not heavy or bulky and my feet stayed cool on a hot July summer day.

Excellent Boot
August 04, 2009
This is my third pair of these, I wear them for walking miles every day with my dogs. Lightweight, comfortable, never need to break them in. Right out of the box, and out the door I go!
DEFINITELY my favorite!

I have both styles of this shoe and love them. The only problem I've had with them at all is my toes get pushed forward if I don't wear the right socks when I'm on mountainous terrain. I didn't have to break this pair in either and will probably stick with these boots! I love Merrills though because I've never had problems with them.
Very comfortable.

These are the best hiking boots I have ever owned. They were very comfortable from the first time I put them on and have never given me any blisters. I ordered a half size up and that's a perfect fit. I can highly recommend these boots.
Love them!

I've worn these boots for about a week now and they're amazing, as Merrell's always are!

Worth every Penny
July 16, 2008
Used new out of box to cover river rock trails for a week, water crossings, and walking in knee deep water for hours at a a time, while prospecting for gold on the Mockelume river in California. Water drained out quickly, mud fell away, didn't built up in boot. In a warm, humid climate, they dried out after 8 hours max, to use next morning. I wore them with old-school heavy Norwegian ragg-wool socks. Ankle support was excellent, no problems at all, very comfortable, rugged, light weight,'ventilator' is 100% true. Since I was in and out of water, going over all of the round river rock and bolders, with no dirt trail, this was a better choice for stability, than the Waterpro Maipo, but that one is good for other situations.
These boots are made for Walking !!

... like wearing clouds... the most comfortable protective shoe without being too binding and hot! These are my third pair. I hope they never stop making them.
Not for me
June 24, 2009
I love Merrell's - I hiked part of the Kalalau trail (Kauai) a couple years ago in a pair of low profile "siren" shoes that held up remarkably well in the mud. I'm now looking for a new pair of lightweight mid-hiking boots so decided to try the Moab Ventilators. I've never had high-top shoes before and didn't particularly care for these. They're a bit on the sporty side - like wearing a high-top tennis shoe with vibram soles! They're also bulkier than they appear in the photo, with way too much padding around the ankle. I wear a 9 1/2 and these shoes made my feet look giant! Comfort wise, they seem like they'd work for long day trips but I'm still returning them for something with less bulk.
Love this shoe!

I love Merrell boots. My previous pair last 7 years. I hope these hold up as well. True to size and let my feet breath.
OK hikers but not great
June 26, 2011
Got these on clearance as a set of backups for my wife's Patagonias. They fit right size-wise (she wears a 6) but her heal was a little loose so in one day of hiking it moved around enough to blister up. She can't really blame the shoes, she has weird feet which led to the specific Patagoias she wears anyway, but she was a little dissapointed. Overall, these should be fine for most women, though, just not her thing.
Terrific Hiking Shoe!
July 27, 2010
I was having trouble with my new expensive leather hiking boots, in that they pinch after a few hours of walking and cause my feet to ache. I wanted a boot that would be light and airy for summer wear, yet sturdy enough, and thought the Moab Ventilator would be a good choice. I followed the advice of others who have reviewed this boot and ordered a half-size larger than my normal size. Boy, am I glad I did that! These boots needed no breaking-in period and I had no trouble with the blister spot caused by the leather boots. I would definitely buy these again and I'm thinking maybe I will order some now just to make sure I don't get caught without them. It's nice to concentrate on the hike and not on my aching feet.

Merrell Hiking Shoes Experience
March 11, 2008
Very comfortable with no problems the very first time I wore them hiking. Had some rugged terrain with lots of rocks and dry stream beds. Cactus and thorn-infested flora so no problems there either. Good support

Best hiking boots I've had!
March 25, 2009
Very comfortable! I switched to these after attempting a long distance in my running shoes and had so many blisters. These shoes made me forget I had blisters, and served me so well on my last 2 hikes. I am so glad I bought these.
poor fit
July 02, 2009
Received today and will have to return. I did read the review that said to purchase a 1/2 size larger. I did and my big toe is jambed into the front of the shoe. I campared my other Merrell's shoes in length to this one and this shoe is much shorter. I am a repeat Merrell customer -I currently own 5 pairs of Merrell hiking shoes. I have been noticing that the shoes are getting smaller and the fit is not as good. I don't know in which country Merrell is getting the shoes made but they must have short feet. I have been a loyal Merrell customer becuase in the past I've never had problems with their shoes.
These run just a tad small
February 18, 2009
These shoes are beautiful and I must admit that they feel great as soon as you slip them on. However, I ordered a 6.5 (my normal size) and they were way too small. I am going to have to go a 1/2 size up.
