4.6 out of 5

This are great for trail running short distances (say 10-15 mi). The shoe surface is somewhat hard, which is great for highly technical trails. Also good for hiking!

I loved the feel of the shoe. It is so lightweight and snug on my foot. It felt great to feel the trail and they taught me how to run softer. It makes you feel like your are more one with nature. Highly recommended item.
Hopeful that the shoes improve with age
March 30, 2011
I wore these around the house to make sure they fit and were comfy before going outside (in case they had to be returned). They felt great, very flexible, super lightweight, and my toes were able to spread out comfortably. Then, I wore them outside on a few neighborhood walks with the dog. After just a few blocks they started to rub the back of my heels/achilles. After two short distance wears, I had blisters on both of my heels. I hope my achilles "toughen up". I'll wait a few days and then try wearing them again. For me, these ran a bit small in the length, but it's not a big deal, I just ordered up a half size. If I get used to the elastic rubbing on my achilles, I will absolutely love these shoes and purchase additional pairs. If not, I will have some close-to-perfect but practically unwearable shoes.
New Favorite Pair of Shoes!
November 05, 2011
I just started looking into the barefoot running trend, but am completely not interested in the Five Fingers. These "normal-looking" shoes were the perfect compromise! I have been wearing them everyday, all day since they arrived. I haven't tried running in them yet - don't want to change anything until after my last race of the year. Even if I don't like running in them, I will continue to wear them as everyday shoes. I am a solid size 8 but had to go up to an 8.5 in this shoe.Pros: comfortable, Cons: cold weather = cold feet
March 04, 2012
It is a worthwhile purchase as the shoes is very light and comfortable even without socks on! It is more stable to run with it than a normal track shoe which might end up causing ankle sprain!
Excellent all-around shoe
June 27, 2011
I needed a new athletic/casual shoe, but didn't want a bulky sneaker. These were an excellent alternative because they are super light, very flexible, and comfortable. I live in the southwest where temps are usually over 100 in the summer, and these are more pleasant to wear because they have great air ventilation and can be comfortably worn without socks. The soles provide a surprising amount of protection from sharp rocks, etc. considering how thin the material is. I have narrow feet, and these mold to the contour of my foot perfectly. I have a high arch, and these had ample arch support. I also had no issues with the stretchy elastic in the back rubbing my heel. I'm not sure if these would be the best for wide feet due to the contour of the foot bed seeming more narrow. However, the toe box is very roomy and is what gives the "barefoot" feel. I bought these in black so I can try and sneak them into my work wardrobe, and it has worked out great. The only thing I wish they had were bungee type laces to make them more of a slip-on shoe. Other than that, I highly recommend these for style, comfort, and versatility.Pros: lightweight, flexible, durable construction

I purchased these for general walking around town and light hiking on smooth trails. I don't find anything special about these. They're really nothing more than thin sneakers, with no cushion. I find wearing these without a thin sock uncomfortable, as the inside toe area is somewhat rough. I don't subscribe to the barefoot running trend, as there is only a small number of the population that is actually good for, so I cannot speak for that. But as a general walking shoe they are just OK.
Comfortable and sturdy for a minimalistic shoe
August 15, 2011
I do not do much running but i enjoy hiking - especially when the weather turns nice. I like feeling the ground i hike one - be it rocks, grass etc. So i decided to purchase either a Merrel or a five finger. I settled on the merrel glove as it hugs my feet nicely and i do not look like Big foot :) Jokes aside, this shoes took me on several uphill hikes (including reaching a mountain peak) - no blisters or sliding (the vibram sole has great traction) One recommendation: break them in as on my first trip i got blisters because i was stepping differently in them - however i do feel my calves working out in these. Highly recommend trying them out. Good quality.Pros: good sole, nice color variety
Good place to start
March 07, 2011
I've been wanting to try the toe shoes for awhile, but I haven't. Thought these would be a good place to start and a little more versatile. Wore them today on a 4-mile walk. My left heel is a little sore, but I know one needs to become accustomed to them. While wearing them, my joints through my legs felt free and fluid. The fit may be a little long for my foot, but the lacing enables a snug fit transversely around the foot. Overall, I think the fit is fairly true to size.
A great option for every outdoor activity!
June 19, 2011
I love this shoe. They are amazing for helping me learn to run more naturally! I plan on using these exclusively for any outdoor activity from now on!Pros: glove-like fit, barefoot feel, great for running, great for hiking, super lightweight

These were for a hiking trip down and up the Grand Canyon. Super, super COMFORTABLE!!! Did over 16 miles that day with and without socks and not a blister to report!
GOOD RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX
May 09, 2011
I have tried many specialty shoes for triathalons and it seems they all have given me blisters or lost toe nails. I do a lot of trail running and this is by far the best shoe so far, might even replace my salomons. I laced them up a little tight the first run and my feet felt it about a mile into the run. Very secure fit with the way the laces tie and the sole is great for the trails. Took the dog for a walk around the block and they felt even better as my foot and ankle are getting used to the shoes. I would recommend to all.

The Pace Glove was my first pair of barefoot shoes, but it won't be my last. Very comfy right out of the box, with great traction and perfect fit: lace up snugly and have a roomy toe box. I haven't run in them yet but walked miles every day on vacation (after my feet and leg muscles had adjusted to the barefoot thing) and only after one 12-hour day on my feet did my dogs get tired. I always wear ped-socks with these because my feet are kind of bony, and have no trouble with sore spots. I'm a size 7.5 M but wear an 8 in the Pace Glove because I like room for my toes, and these tend to run a little snug, as they are meant to fit.
Nice, mulitpurpose shoes
June 23, 2011
I bought these to go hiking in Arizona. We ended up not going, but I've found a lot of uses for them since. They're great for river-tubing. They dry out really fast and don't hold a lot of water. They're comfortable without socks and really lightweight. They work well for everyday wear; even though support is minimal, my feet didn't hurt after walking around all day. I have pretty narrow feet and I have to cinch them all the way when I tie them, but that's my only complaint. They run true to size.
Best trail running shoe!
June 06, 2011
A totally different running experience on non-paved surfaces. My calves were sore after running the first two times, but never again. My customary knee pain also never appeared whenever I wore these shoes. I'm sticking to trails and Pace Gloves (I bought three pairs, afraid that Merrell might quit making them).
A fast yet comfortable "all terrain" running shoe
February 18, 2011
This shoe is reminiscent of a cross country racing shoe but way better. What makes this shoe similar to a cross country shoe is its minimalist features such as an ultra-light, super soft upper, a feet-hugging fit and a thin outsole that allows for better "ground feel" than most other racing "all-terrain" running shoes. However, this is where the similarities stop and the differences begin. Unlike the stiff sole of the cross country shoe comprised of rubber spikes and small knobs, the Merrel Women's Pace Glove Vibram outsole is like no other. It is significantly more flexible but yet provides more cushioning, particularly in the arch and heel; it is more versatile in that it that provides more traction on various terrains. Furthermore, the roomier toe box provides plenty of toe space too prevent shafing and blisters. Together, these features make the Pace Glove the fastest and most comfortable thing your feet will ever experience.
Barefoot Shoe. Period.
May 11, 2011
You get exactly what you pay for w/this shoe. It's a barefoot style, which means it's mostly there to protect your skin from abrasion - it is not designed to have cushion. I'm not able to run in a barefoot shoe (I have really high arches) but I do use this shoe for walking around at work. The minimal shoe forces me to balance and focus on how I place my foot. It would not be a good shoe if you're up on your feet all day but works for me as I'm only up running errands a few times each hour. The shoe is true to size - I have one foot that is an 8.5 and one that is a 9 - the size 9 shoes fit me perfectly. I do wear thin wool socks in these shoes since my feet sweat a LOT, so I can't comment on the chaffing issue another person mentioned - I don't have any issues while wearing a thin sock. All in all, they're probably a little overpriced for what you get - see if you can find them on sale.

I like the way it feels on my feet. It is so comfy and non-restrictive. I am planning on purchasing another pair for work since I do a lot of walking as a nurse.
I am finally running again!
July 02, 2011
After 15 years of not running due to knee injuries and surgery, I began working with a personal trainer who convinced me to sign up for the Warriors Dash. It must have been a weak moment. After a month of weight training, we added running. I was using those "old school" bulky running shoes and my knees were killing me. My trainer suggested to run barefoot and it was the first time I ever felt free. My knees stopped hurting and I was able to better adjust to the uneven terrain. He did suggest I buy the Vibram 5 finger shoes, but I am a bit of princess and refused to have monkey toes. I went to Merrell, my go to place for great shoes, and researched the barefoot series. My first thought when I put on my shoes, did I just buy slippers? Second thought, pure foot happiness. Next day I was out on my running training session. Instantly was in love. The thinner soles allows me to grip the uneven terrain and helps me stop heal striking. Half way through the session, my trainer had me switch to my "old school" shoes to give my calves a break. After 5 minutes I was back in my Merrells thanking the heavens. I also wore these shoes while on vacation. They felt great while tourist walking, hiking, rock hoping, and climbing a waterfall. I am not an elite runner or a somewhat runner, but if I can run after years of pain, you can too! Free your feet and buy these shoes!

In searching for an alternative to the usual fare of trail shoes, the Merrell Pace Glove Barefoot Running Shoe crossed my shopping path. I have found many uses for these shoes including hiking, cycling, approach shoe and as an everyday work shoe. I would advise not to wear in situations were you might encounter cactus spines or large thorns, as the soles are not very dense. Sizing is accurate, I usually have to order a larger size/width but not with these shoes because the soft structure of the shoe makes the width comfortable even for my wide foot.Pros: comfortable, lightweight, ventilated
Great minimalist shoe
March 24, 2011
I've been on the minimalist bandwagon for about three years, starting with a pair of Vibram KSOs and more recently the Vibram Trek Sports. I'd compare the Merrell Pace Glove to the Trek Sports, in that they provide good ground feel while still offering protection from rocks and other debris. There's a bit more arch support than I'd prefer, but it's fairly minor, and I really appreciate the wide toe box. I don't think that my toes splay as much as they do in the Vibrams, but it's worlds better than a "regular" pair of shoes. The soles are very flexible and you can actually roll up or twist the shoes. The elastic at the back could be an issue for someone who is accustomed to open-backed shoes or shoes with a very soft, wide Achilles area, but I got used to it after the first few wears. Overall a great minimalist option when VFFs aren't appropriate!Pros: good ground feel, wide toe box, flexible and light
Great light shoe!
July 24, 2011
I bought a pair to use for running and it was fantastic! Very light. It does use different muscles in your leg, so I was really sore after running the first few times but got used to it. It makes running a bit more fun because of the movement it allows. I bought another one in a lighter color to wear around town, as I do a lot of walking on a college campus and they are super comfortable. I can't wait to get back to campus to start wearing them everywhere!Pros: light, comfortable
March 03, 2011
Fair warning: I am not a barefoot runner or even a runner. But I walk a lot and have been drawn towards 'barefoot' technology in various forms for years; MBT's and then several models of Nike Free's, and finally these. I think the pair I got ended up being a half size too small, but it's hard to tell. They adjust to the width of your foot easily though, and the laces and quality of the overall shoe are excellent. My only complaint with wearing them for several full days of running errands and walking 5-10 miles around Manhattan is the stiffness of the area between the arch and the toe box. My feet can't adjust to it so these haven't become my default sneakers the way I'd hoped. They are well made, great shoes though, so I am hoping that warmer weather might soften the stiffness of that part of the sole.Pros: very light, very adjustable, Cons: overly stiff sole
Light as air

Wonderful shoe -- comfortable, light, and attractive, especially for those of us with rather big feet (actually makes feet look smaller than most running shoes). Will order more!
