Great shoe. These have become what i wear daily. I have not complaints with this shoe other then the laces. They come undone if you do not tie them tightly.

Comfortable and sturdy
August 15, 2013

These Merrell shoes are very comfortable, sturdy and look great. They are a little heavier than a regular casual shoes but for outdoor activity they are just fine. The Gore-tex does make them a little warm. For sizing I went with 1/2 a size up and wide. They do loosen up quite a after the first day of wearing them and if I ordered again I might stay with my regular length in the wide.

Pros: waterproof, appearance, comfort, Cons: heavy, warm

Waterproof ventilators
December 27, 2010

I loved my old Moab Ventilators, but was upset that I could not wear them during Mud Season. The Moab GTX are fantastic! Still the phenomenal fit, comfort and quality that I loved about my old pair, but with the additional waterproof feature. Gore-tex also allows my feet to breathe, which cuts down on the stink-factor. This is greatly appreciated by the wifey :-) Overall, HIGHLY recommended!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

Great outdoor shoe
August 16, 2013

My first hiking shoes and as my daily walking shoe. The Ortholite sole definitely provides the comfort especially during long walks and hikes. The only con is the sizing. I bought large size 10 and it feels I'm wearing size 11. My advice is to wear medium to large socks. Overall, this shoe is very versatile, you can wear it casually and wear it as a hiking or walking shoe. Just make sure clean the shoes regularly:)

Great Fit!
June 27, 2013

I generally wear Keen's because I have a wider foot, however these Merrell's fit great! The Gore-Tex liner keeps them super dry on the trail and they're comfortable enough to wear all day hiking as well as around the campfire at night.

These are the best casual shoes I have purchased. I wear them almost every day. Perfect fit and comfort level. I live in the city and rarely take out on the trail. But they are excellent on sidewalks and other hard surfaces. I ordered 9.5 wide. My weight is 170 lbs and am 5'7". Since I live in S. Calif and it doesn't rain much I haven't been able to test out the water proofing aspect. But I assume the GoreTex will be adequate for my needs. I've had them for two months now without any problems. I expect them to last for years.

would rate a little higher but the insoles were horrid and would slide up the side and be all bunched up. I bought these shoe for playing disc golf. They lasted 6 months and i was fairly impressed. Most shoes don't last me that long. i wore them as an everyday shoe too. They kept my feet dry when i wasn't walking under water. very comfy and seem true to size(13 wide) traction is unbeatable now what happens in 6 months 100s of rounds of disc golf dragging the toe on 1000s of throws( on concrete dirt grass) walking into ponds and rivers with them on 100s of miles of diverse terrain dozens of trees climbed no cleaning no drying no love awesome shoe

Pros: Build quality, Performance, traction, water proof, Cons: insoles

Men's GORE-TEX Hiking Shoe
May 04, 2012

I wear these shoes daily. I really like the wide sizes that are available and find these shoes to be very comfortable for hiking. The waterproofing on the shoes were not as good as other merrell shoes I have purchased. I would say that they are water resistant but not necessarily water-proof. They are good for walking in the rain, but if you step into a large puddle, the water will soak through. Also, the sole of the shoe is seperating from the toe after having them for only seven months. For the price of these shoes, I think they should have lasted a little longer.

These shoes were extremely light and comfortable and the Gore-Tex worked perfectly, keeping my feet cool and dry. Based upon just that, they deserve a 5 star rating. However, I gave them a 4 star rating because they barely lasted a single summer of light hiking.

Nice Shoes - Warm and Dry
February 14, 2011

These are some of the more durable everyday shoes I've worn. They are comfy walking all day and good for short trail runs, a bit heavy for longer distances. I've been wearing them for everyday for over a month now and they show almost no signs of wear on the sole or upper. Very pleased and impressed. Fit seems to be a roomy. My only minor complaint is styling... they could look better.

Great all around shoes
December 26, 2010

I have been wearing my Moab shoes for two weeks now and am quite pleased with the purchase. First, they are very attractive hiking shoes, far more stylish than previous ones I have owned. I ordered a size 10.5 and they seem true to size with plenty of room for those with wide feet like myself. I have tested the shoes once in a significant rainstorm and my feet were completely dry. Also, just because, I poured some water on the shoes and they repelled it nicely. I cannot comment on durability yet, but that is my only concern. I like the shoes so much I just hope they last. I have no reason to believe they won't be durable, but won't know for a few months.

December 26, 2010

I had previously purchased a pair of Vasque Goretex from another site. Most uncomfortable shoes I've ever owned. Found these at a local store and loved them and then found them on Altrec for 1/2 of what they were in the store. My only regret is I didn't buy 3 or 4 pair to keep for the future. The BEST pair of hiking shoes I've ever owned. Went outside today in 4 inches of snow (a blizzard in SC) and my feet never got wet. I LOVE GORTEX now. I'm sold on Goretex and sold on Merrells. I ordered a size 11 and they fit perfect - no break-in needed.

very comfortable
February 17, 2011

This shoe is very comfortable, light-weight, and has kept my feet dry. I am hard to fit, with a size 12EE and high instep, so need a high-volume shoe. I ordered 12W, which, depending on the make/model does not often work out. However, if you have a high volume foot, the wide is likely to fit. I have not used them extensively, but have stayed dry stepping in 1"-2" puddles and through several inches of snow. Traction is fine. One concern is support, but probably only because I am accustomed to backpacking boots.

I bought these shoes for walking my dog during the wet Nebraska winters. I have trouble finding shoes that provide good support without irritating my achilles tendon, these shoes do both. They walk like no other shoes! There is a solid stability to every step. The tread pattern gives excellent traction but is not so aggressive that it gets packed with mud and dirt. I have looked for a while for a wider width shoe and AT LAST I have found it.

Climb Mt. Whitney yesterday with these shoes, they were excellent, providing great comfort and water proofing across the streams. The shoe has a great fit and are true to size. The only thing about these shoes is that you do need a small break-in period before taking any long serious hike, I believe its due to the gore tex lining. Once that is done the shoes are excellent and a great value. My feet where the only thing that didn't hurt after climb.

Pros: fit and comfort, water proofing, price for what you get, Cons: none

Excellent all round casual hiking shoe
July 16, 2011

After wearing my last pair of Merrells into the ground, I have just bought two new pairs including the MOAB GTX and the Intercept - which I have been eyeing off for some time. Both are very different shoes, but I am extremely happy with both choices. As soon as I tried on the MOABs I knew these are going to be my preferred choice of all round casual hiking shoe for many years to come. The air cushion soles are an absolute winner, the construction is solid, and the shoe looks great with a pair of jeans on as well - it is not a stretch to wear them out on the town as well as on the trail. I bought the Beluga colour and am very happy with my choice. After you've worn and been converted to Merrells, is there really any other shoe you would buy? The only slight annoyance, as some others have noted, is the laces which easily come undone if not double tied.

Pros: air cushion sole, comfort, sturdy contstruction, stylish, Cons: laces

January 19, 2010

I have three pairs of the regular Moabs but now that I've tried the Merrell Men's Moab GORE-TEX XCR I've found a new Merrell to rave about. During the recent cold and snow here in Manhattan they kept me warm, comfortable and drier than I suspected and I wore only thin socks every day they were worn. If you should make a purchase, you'll be very happy and comfortable with your shoes.

Very light but they do not lock the foot properly
June 10, 2010

It's a very light and enjoyable shoe for easy walks. If you are thinking about something more rough you may want to consider a shoe that exercise a better containment on you foot. Picked up these new wheels after scouring the market for the best option. Having owned many pairs of Merrells in the past, i put the brand as top of my list. Then i found the Moabs. Great shoes, especially with the wider fit for my big hoofs. Super comfortable to wear all day on the weekends. Waterproof and with excellent tread means I could take these bad boys on a relatively rough mountain trek. Highly recommend you get yourself a set of these shoes.

I love this shoe. First of all, wide sizes are available which can be a challenge to find. They fit perfectly out of the box and there was no break in period. They felt comfortable from day 1. I have taken them hiking in northern Arizona, Rocky Mountain NP, and wandering through villages in West Africa. I use them mainly for day hiking, but have hiked some with my 35 lb son in the kiddie backpack. The traction is great for for rock scrambling as well. They have held up very well and look good too after a couple years. I would get another pair but they have held up so well, I don't need to yet. So, I got a pair for my wife, and she loves them as well.

Merrell Moab GoreTex
December 28, 2010

I purchased these shoes for my Dad because he lives in NYC; walks everywhere. Also, he often picks up at the last minute to go on a camping trip. I wanted to find him something versatile and waterproof to keep him comfortable in all instances. He absolutely loves them and pretty much refuses to wear anything else on his feet anymore. Another note, prior to purchasing these shoes, we had attended an event where Gore-Tex had a booth set up so you can test their shoes in the water. We put on their Gore-Tex shoes, stepped into a deep puddle of water and were blown away that our feet didn't get even a little wet. It was amazing, and these shoes perform the same way.

Pros: Great design, Great value, water proof

I bought these for a trip to Costa Rica. I didn't get to wear them for more than a day before I left for my trip, so I was a little concerned that my feet would blister. But they were comfortable from the very start. My feet did NOT blister! The shoes were very comfortable and they were great for hiking in the rain forests of Costa Rica!

My first Merrell...and second pair is on its way...

So far so good. It's everything described on the site as well as from others. The only thing I'd say is it might run a tiny bit smaller than norm. I usually buy everything size 10.5, but going to try size 11 in a different style. That's right, I'm sticking to Merrell!

They are light weight, comfortable, they keep my feet dry, they have great traction and the fit is super. My feet and body is not as tired like they were when I wore my running shoes. When I'm done with my work outs I wear these shoes for the rest of my day activities, they are very attractive. When I wear these shoes out I will definately buy my 4Th pair. Recently tried Merrell's for the first time. Bought a pair of gorges bikers and they were sensational. At the time I was trying on these little numbers as well and was finding it hard to decide. Sized a tad bit small, had to exchange for the next half size larger. Very stable on uneven surfaces. Midsole stiffer in comparison to a trail 'running' shoe, but that adds to the stability. Have not yet tested the effectiveness of the Gore-tex.

Great wearing shoes!
April 27, 2011

Originally purchased the Moab ventilators about a year ago and loved them. Decided to go with the Gore Tex so they'd be waterproof and like them even better. Very durable, comfortable shoes.

Pros: very comfortable, waterproof, comes in wide width, Cons: ?????

My Second Pair
December 01, 2010

These are my 2nd pair of Merrell's I have purchased in a year. The fit is perfect & you can wear them right out of the box, all day long with no break in period. I use them hiking, camping, doing work outside or just running errands. They are what I would consider great feet therapy.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use

Best wide width waterproof shoe
January 10, 2010

I bought these for my husband and he LOVES them. He said they are super comfortable and I think they are quite stylish too. Availability in a wide width was important. Great purchase from a great site.

great shoe!

One of the best pairs of shoes I have ever owned. Goretex lining is the best for keeping you dry and comfortable as well. These are the second pair I have bought!

Love Merrell Moabs
April 29, 2011

I have become really fond of my Merrell Moab hiking shoes. They are extremely comfortable and light weight, while providing the support that I need on hikes. My only complaint is that the GTX versions seem uneven in their protection from water. One pair that I have continues to be reliable in this regard, while another one really provides little protection. Perhaps it's a question of age, as the latter one is much older and more used.

Superb Golf Shoe
May 06, 2013

The Moab Gore-Tex hiker is a dry, comfortable, and stable shoe that I use as a golf shoe. In damp and wet conditions my feet stay dry. Since this model is available in a wide width my feet have enjoyed comfort while walking that no golf shoe has provided me. The hiking tread is very stable when playing golf.

Pros: altrec fast shipping, altrec in stock, available in wide width

Great Shoes
February 22, 2012

This is a replacement pair for me. Very comfortable and wear well. I wear them everyday. Last pair I owned lasted a couple of good years. I recommend these shoes.

Very comfortable
May 25, 2010

I bought this shoe because my feet sweat and need something very breathable. This shoes is comfortable and airy. I look forward to wearing them for my trip to Yellowstone.

OK Shoes; Not great
April 17, 2010

Seem to run a little bit small. Gore-tex is a bit hot for everyday use. Cheesy foam insole. I'd rate them average; would probably get something else next time. Might try the Moab Ventilators in a half size bigger.

Great shoe for light hiking
December 05, 2010

This is my third pair of Merrell shoes and second pair of the same kind. These shoes are very comfortable (though I did buy a 1/2 size bigger). I have worn them all day long without any discomfort. These shoes last forever (had to get a new pair as my dog chewed on the earlier pair; really!!!) The only minor issue I have is with the lace. They don't seem to stay tied (could be my way of tying the lace too). But otherwise, a great product and with excellent service from Altrec, a no-brainer purchase decision.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance

Amazing Boots!
July 11, 2010

This is the best pair of boots I have ever bought. I would strongly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a good comfortable pair of boots. The only minor problem I had with them is that they run a little on the small side, so be sure to get a size bigger than what you normally wear.

GORE-TEX XCR Hiking Shoe -Can you say SWEET!
January 20, 2011

I purchased these shoes over 6 months ago. They soon became my favorite shoe. These shoes are ultra light and still look new after 50+ days of use. I use them for trail running as well as freedom Fridays at work because they are stylish with a pair of jeans. I can’t say enough about this shoe. They are waterproof yet cool as can be. I can say SWEET!!!!! Highly recommended.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever

Great, light hiking shoe
July 01, 2012

Have had my new Merrell's for 6 weeks or so. A little stiff for the first few steps, but they have become my main hiking shoes. Park City, Utah, Cibola Forest outside Albuquerque, and later this summer Denali Park in AK. Good fit, lightweight. Have not had to test the Gore Text yet.

Pros: light, comfortable

light, waterproof, breathes well
February 17, 2013

The Moab Goretex boot is one of the lightest Merrel waterproof boot. It's has Goretex and has been very waterproof so far. Breathes well. Not insulated so winter use is only light duty. Like many Merrell's, the Vibram sole seem to last and last. Would definitely purchase again.

Good water protection
February 13, 2011

I wore the Moab XCR on a hike to the Subway in Zion National Park and was pleased with the XCR fabric in keeping my feet dry. This hike is along and through a shallow stream. I could feel the cold of the water around my feet, but my feet stayed dry. The XCR fabric is noticeably cooler than the regular Gore-tex fabric that I've worn for years. My impression is that the XCR is as good and will actually provide greater comfort as my my feet tend to get a little overheated inside Gore-tex boots. XCR is also good at keeping the dust from going through the fabric. I wear sand gators along with the Moab XCR, and even on very sandy hikes, my feet are complete clean and dirt free at the end of the day. Good shoes, good fit.

good shoe- but overpriced for quality of product
May 05, 2010

compared to hiking in my Adidas sneakers , these shoes are an upgrade. I walk pronate, this has caused the shoes to wear quickly. get these shoes but only if on sale.

A bit snug at first, but very comfy.
April 20, 2010

Very satisfied with this shoe though it appeared a bit snug with rag wool socks. So I am using thinner socks while I break them in. They are really comfortable on my feet.

Great Shoe
January 14, 2010

I have heard of Merrell shoes before but when i got my pair it was something truly remarkable. The shoe is super comfortable and my feet never hurt or get tired. This is a brand that I highly recommend.

so far so good but yet to reall try out
April 16, 2010

I plan on using these on the JMT this summer carrying about 30-35lb at the start. While I am yet to really test them out they feel like they have good support for a low cut but more importantly they feel snug around the heel while loose enough around the toe box.

excellent versatile shoe
March 17, 2010

I've had these shoes for over 2 years with heavy trail wear. I've never been disappointed - feet happy and dry.
