Lightweight and breathable, the Merrell Men's Moab Mid GORE-TEX XCR Hiking Boots are a mid-height boot that will keep your feet dry hiking in summer downpours and crossing mountain creeks. Based on the already popular Merrell Moab Boots, these hiking shoes have been enhanced with a premium Gore-Tex® membrane and an Aegis® Antimicrobial mesh lining to keep the water out and still maintain a high level of odor-fighting breathability. Even after a few seasons of tough use, your feet will be dry and comfy. A breathable mesh upper is reinforced with durable leather overlays and toe and heel caps in high abrasion areas.

An Ortholite® insole can be removed to accommodate custom orthotics or replaced with a softer insert after it wears out while the long-lasting EVA midsole cushions and supports your foot throughout the life of the boot. These trail shoes provide arch support, heel cushion and stability while maintaining flexibility to let your foot move naturally. The Vibram® Multi-Sport Outsole has aggressive lugs to grip any terrain on or off the trail.

Used in a wide range of environments from serving in Afghanistan to hiking in Morocco to everyday use at home or at work, this hiking footwear from Merrell will not disappoint. Customers are reviewing that these Merrell hiking shoes fit as expected for the most part, but keep in mind that if you plan on wearing thick socks it's always best to size up. Available in regular and wide widths, the Merrell Moab Mid GORE-TEX XCR Hiking Boots for men need no breaking in and are ready to roll right out of the box.

Great hiking boot!
November 10, 2010

Bought these boots for my first trip to the AT...extremely comfortable, light-weight and durable! Highly recommended! Even for my first trip, I was suprised after the miles and miles of hiking, my feet were not more sore.

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great value

Great - For colder climates
February 23, 2012

This shoe is extremely comfortable. It seems well made and durable. My only complaint is I live in Hawaii, where it is hot and humid. My feet get hot and sweat when I wear this shoe for any sort of activity. I am going to return this shoe and try the Moab "Ventilator". The waterproof Gore-Tex is not gonna cut it here, its too hot!

Merrill Moab Mid Gore-Tex XCR Hiking Boot
May 29, 2011

Like all other Merrill products I own, I am very happy with the way the shoes fit. I ordered 1/2 larger than I typically do for a better fit. The shoes appear to be well made, are extremely comfortable and very supportive. I also own a pair of Merrill hiking shoes that are not Gore-Tex and I can say it is worth spending the extra money to purchase the shoes with Gore-Tex as they are much cooler particularly after hiking for extending periods of time. These boots are excellent for long walks in the woods. Would probably get a heavier duty pair if rock/mountain climbing was the primary use.

Love this boot- this is my second pair
June 03, 2011

This is my "go to" hiking boot for most of my hikes. I hike in the mountains of New England almost every weekend. I find these boots to work for most of my hiking needs except back packing hikes. I have owned 3 pairs of the shoe version of this boot. Since I bought my first mid level Moab hiking boot I rarely wear my shoes. These are just as comfortable and light weight but give good ankle support. The best features of the boot are out of the box comfort with no break in period and their weight. The waterproofing meets most of my hiking needs but is not adequate for really wet conditions. The durability is average, the same as the shoe version. The tread is very good and provides great traction on the steep trails in New England. I used my first pair for 2-years before purchasing this pair. My first pair is still in good condition but the tread is starting to show some wear after many hikes. I would definitely recommend this boot

Excellent water proof hiking boots
February 23, 2012

My Merrell Chameleon boots were no longer waterproof, so I returned them to Altrec and purchased these as replacements. They are lighter and more comfortable. They are intended to be my primary boots for hiking and camping, but I've been wearing them every day! One thing I really like is that the laces have a loop high up on the tongue that eliminates the need for 2 cleats. So just one cleat on each side makes them MUCH easier to get on and off. I found the sizing to be spot on. I highly recommend these boots.

Pros: good value, lightweight, waterproof, warm, breathable, Cons: none!

Merrell rocks
December 29, 2010

I have used Merrell boots for years and cannot find a fault with any Merrell I've owned. Out of the box, the Moabs are comfortable and flexible and I doubt very little break in time will be necessary. The gore tex will be well tested on our next Smoky Mountains hiking trip soon. Highly recommended.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever

Premium Boots
December 22, 2011

Fantastic pair of boots!! The Gore-tex is unbelievable, you can walk through puddles of water up past your ankle without even thinking about it. Highly durable material is great for the more rugged terrain. Very comfortable even on the first use, no problems at all, not even blisters on my heels, it was awesome. Most people say you have to order a half size up for hiking socks but that wasn't necessary for me. The arch support is really great as well, considering I have flat feet I thought I would need to use my own orthopedic insert, but again the comfort level was incredible! Highly recommend even for daily use. The outsole on this shoe will never allow you to slip. Truly unbelievable!

Pros: feet stay warm and dry through any weather, never slip grip soles

Light and Comfy
May 22, 2012

This is a pretty decent set of boots. Haven't done much hiking with them so no comment on how effective they are in the backcountry. It may seem silly but they were purchased mainly as a pair of light, water-resistant boots for casual wear around the town. Vibram soles found on most Merrell boots are a definite plus. As with most GoreTex footwear, there was a fair amount of stiffness in the beginning. They did become more comfortable after several months of wear.

Very comfortable for someone with flat feet
August 15, 2012

Due to having flat feet I tend to be very picky when choosing footwear. It usually has to have a flat footbed with minimal arch support for me to be comfortable and it's usually really hard to find those kinds of hiking boots. These Merrells fit the bill. They have the right amount of arch support for my mangled feet to comfortable hike all day without foot pain. They are very breathable when combined with a good pair of merino wool socks. The gore-tex has held up so far after a couple wet hikes through Franconia Ridge and Madison/Adams in NH. Having owned Merrell footwear before I knew what I was getting before I bought them and am completely happy.

Pros: true fit, comforable, waterproof, breatheable, Cons: soles slip on wet rock

Great boots
January 26, 2010

Over all, I'm very happy with them, comfort wise. I can't comment on the waterproof or breathable factors as they have not been subjected to those yet. They are a good looking boot without the screaming meme, "pants on the ground", colors that so much sports gear is plagued with.

The boots are sturdy and comfortable. I go to hiking frequently and these boots did not make my feet tired so far. I am in California and now it is winter. I am not sure if my feet are going to sweat or not in California summer in these boots. We will see.

Pros: good fit, waterproof, durable, Cons: nothing

So far better than good
July 04, 2010

I recently purchased these boots for use while I work. I own my own lawn maintenance business in Central Florida where the rains are heavy, the sand is plentiful and where it gets miserably hot. I am on my feet a good 4-6 hours a day, and I do contend with high heat and humidity. They are true to fit, they are surprisingly breathable and thus far waterproof. I do work in extreme conditions and have yet to get caught in any heavy downpours with them on but as far as minor showers, puddles and wet grass these boots are doing a great job.

Hike Away!
May 17, 2011

My husband LOVES these boots. They are perfect for the mountains and hills of Afghanistan. Light with good grip to help you keep and maintain your footing. They are durable and long lasting. When soldier are on their feet hours and hours at a time, roughing it thru such a treacerous and hot and cold climate. PERFECT! Get these if your command approves

Good boot. Not always waterproof.
June 03, 2010

Despite being made of GTX, this boot is not *always* waterproof - or water resistant. I had to send the first pair back to Merrel, and they promptly exchanged it against a new pair, that is waterproof!

These are very durable and comfortable shoes. We had a terrible winter here last year with winter precipitation that went well into spring and these carried me all winter, spring and summer. My feet were warm and dry and I work outside a lot so in cold months that is very important. I would not hesitate to purchase these again.

Floating like a Butterfly
November 26, 2010

Concerned about fit (9W) so double socked for first hike (5 miles). Found myself fading from thoughts about the boots after a short time. Didn't think about boots again until nighttime. Removed the boots and had found no residual affects (foot blisters or soreness) from wearing in 90* weather all day. For shorter hike (2.5 miles) I tried the boot with single sock. Because of the boots breathable an lightweight construction I found them to be more comfortable than the previous day. Looking forward to a longer hike (10+ miles).

I took my new Merrells out of the box and went on a 5 mile hike with my pack. My family is planning to do a lot of hiking an backpacking this summer so I was thrilled to discover how comfortable and supporting these boots are. Man are these seriously comfortable. I bought 2 pairs that is how much I liked them. I love the fact that they are super light and the bottoms are soft like wearing running shoes. This is the first pair of Merrell shoes I have purchased. From a heavy hiking boot to these lighter shoes. So far they have been what I thought they would be. I haven't had much experience with waterproof capability yet. And you need a double knot so the thicker laces don't keep coming untied.

Great Comfortable Hiking Boot
May 03, 2012

I tried on a few boots before settling with these, and I'm very happy I did. They run true to size and for a mid height boot, they fit the best out of all the rest I had tried on in the Mid category. I haven't had the chance to take them out in the rain yet, but I have a feeling they will hold up just fine and keep my feet dry.

September 06, 2011

It's been a whole year since I bought these boots to replace my fiance's grungy Merrel's he's had for years. While he felt they were a bit clunky at first, it is his go-to footwear for anything active/outdoorsy that we do. The quality of this product is like no other. Whether we're treking through the woods back in New England, camping in Flagstaff, or doing yardwork in Phoenix these hiking boots can handle it all. Would buy these all over again, he just loves them.

Light Hiking Boot
April 10, 2011

I bought a pair of these to replace some older Dannon hiking boots. I wanted something lighter to go on summer hikes when I'm not backpacking, These boots were a logical choice. If anything they are too light to provide a lot of support in the ankle areas. But they are extremely light weight, and they support much better than low tops. The goretex makes them cooler while still being waterproof. I also ordered them in 13 wide, and that gave me lots of room for tows and my high instep. I would not recommend them for carrying a pack over rough terrain, but they work well for my easy trails.

Merrell Moab-Value, Comfort, Features
May 07, 2010

Moab is a great boot for hikes without backpack weight. Waterproof, comfort of a tennis shoe and good tread, purchase. It is NOT a backpacking boot and does not have a heavy duty toe guard, leather sidings which protect against rock jams etc.. This is what allows it be such a comfortable lightweight boot. For its intended purpose as a hiking boot vs. a backpacking boot it is ideal. Ordering a pair for my wife today!

They are not lying
October 02, 2011

I've had quite a few hiking shoes. Almost all of them suffer from either water-resistance, ventilation, or durability. These Moab are the first pair that aren't a letdown. These shoes ARE water resistant, as far as I can tell. I've been walking in the rain and wet tall grass without getting any moisture in the shoes (not sure about water-proof though, since I haven't really worn them in streams or rivers). Besides, they go well with my jeans and cargo pants, making them suitable for everyday ware. Btw I have the Beluga color scheme. Pricey, yes; but I do expect many more years out of them. Highly recommended if you are looking for water-resistant/water-proof shoes that also have good breath-ability. It's my first Gore-Tex product, so guess I'll see how the water-resistance holds up. There is a Wikipedia article about this fabric, along with some good maintenance info. Definitely worth checking that out.

Pros: durable, good-looking, water resistant, Cons: a little expensive

Gore Tex and Chex Mix
February 02, 2011

Gore Tex and Chex mix are two main components of a great hiking trip. The local store supplied me with the chex mix and Altrec with the Gore Tex, and boy did they do it with style and ease! Before I talk about the shoe I must say that Altrec is my #1 site to buy the kind of equipment that can keep me happy and keep me active. Now the boots...the Merrell Moab XCR's are the ultimate hiking/trekking boot. They are mid height which gives needed support to the ankles, they are vented enough to keep your feet cool but at the same time these boots are water proof. I stuck my feet in a water puddle while caving over Fall break, totally submerged up to the tongue and my feet were as dry as the splash zone at SeaWorld after Willy died (RIP Free Willy)

Men's Moab Mid Gore tex XCR Hiking Boot
February 11, 2013

This is my second pair of these boots. I am replacing a pair I bought a couple years ago that I wore out. All of my hiking is in the mountains in Utah and these are great because they are light weight so they don't wear you out. The soles have good traction even when wet which is key when you are crossing snow and streams and on slippery rocks in the spring and fall. I have a very wide foot at the front which makes it hard to find shoes but these have lots of room up front for my 4E width (I bought the wide width). The only thing I don't like is the lack of arch support in the foot liner. I bought a pair of inserts for the last pair and that solved the problem.

Pros: light, not slippery when wet, nice and wide in the front, Cons: not much arch support in footliner

Exceptional comfort with great ankle support.

Merrell products rock! Ready for a long hike straight out of the box. So comfortable, I wear them almost every day, all day.

Good Support, good tread
December 12, 2011

Pretty good on loose or slippery terrain, but it takes some time to break these in. Laces hold up well and do not fray easily. QR eyelets have a pretty smooth action. You need to wear good socks with these if you top wrap your laces, as the top cuff transmits the tight wrap to your legs. Wide sizes are roomy w/o losing support (@ 2E). Had these out on a jetty as well as on a riverbank, and did better than my old pair of mendocinos.

Pros: good ankle support, Cons: tough to clean treads

Good support and excellent traction
December 13, 2012

As a member of Gore MountainTechs, I have the opportunity to field test GORE-TEX gear in some of the harshest conditions. I purchased these boots many years ago and they have been my go-to boot for backpacking and long day hikes. They have not disappointed. The fit was excellent out of the box, honestly almost no break in period for me. The traction is superb on steep and even loose terrain, but I have had toe pain after long steep descents...probably not the boots fault though. They're certainly waterproof, no issues there. The only complaint is that after years of use (getting wet, warming by a campfire, etc.) they have shrunk about a half size and now fit very snug. Overall, awesome boot and I'll absolutely be purchased Merrells again in the future!

Pros: waterproof, comfortable, great traction, Cons: shrunk over time

Traction and comfort
May 02, 2010

I play a lot of disc golf and was looking for a good shoe with dependable traction on a variety of surfaces in wet or dry conditions. I was also very concerned about break in time with an upcoming tournament. I could not be more pleased with the Moab. They were more comfortable in the first round out of the box than my 'broken ins.' And with plenty of wet weather at the tourney, they provided the traction (and dry feet) I had been looking for in wet conditions. The comfort in the walks between shots along with the grip in the twisting and turning of the throw make this a great disc golf boot. I honestly feel they've cut a couple of strokes off my game--my feet aren't tired and aching in the closing holes anymore. I'll be getting a second pair.

Loves em!

Pros: comfort, weight, Cons: average durability

I love Merrell
November 23, 2009

All Merrell size 11's fit me perfectly. I used these on a recent 13 mile hike and they felt broken in from the start. I also own the non-Gore-tex version of these boots. If you know how these fit from trying them on in a store, they are a best buy here. They have a lot of heel cushion and the sole is made of a harder rubber than other shoes I have worn. Seem like they will last a long time.

I love these boots

I love these boots. They are so nice and feel sturdy, yet comfortable. I love the padding on the sides too for slipping on rocks. These are the best all around boots.

Absolutley a great hiking boot.....

First time on I thought I had put on my oldest and most favorite boot on. The fit and comfort was a total surprise for a new boot. Just order another pair of low cut ventilator boots. Fully expect the same great fit and comfort.

Highly recommended!

I bought Merrel size 11, the best hiking boots I have so far. I went on a hike, here in California, recently and I found them very light, and comfortable. They are waterproof and give good traction. I'm heading to the Basque country this holiday and I'm pretty sure they are going to do a pretty good job.

Great for extended hikes
March 26, 2012

I was looking for a "extended hike" boot for rocky terrain in Texas heat. These boots breath well and the can be submerged directly in water without a worry. They grip to surfaces great when dry. When wet they are OK at traction control. I felt really secure in my boots and did not feel any ankle fatigue after my trip. Break in period is basically nothing. I hiked 7 miles out the box with no problem. The only problems I had with the sboots were the packaging. The right sole was pinched under the boot former. This caused it to have a irregular protrusion which hurt the side of my foot. I replaced the soles regardless so no problem there. Secondly my boots had a piece of bottom rubber sticking out of the middle that gave my boot a titer totter effect. I shaved it down and all was well. Overall, for the price it is a great shoe to have.

Superior Boot
November 07, 2010

Over the past two years I have worn out two pairs of water proof hiking boots by another manufaturer with the soles separating. After a month of hard , everyday use , these Merrell Mid Moabs are superior in every way. Light weight, superior support and waterproof; tremendous improvements... I hate to take them off! Try them & you will love them too.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, light weight

Excelent buy for the price.

I am a 50+ urban dweller from LA. I purchased these boots 6 weeks ago with the intent to use them exclusively for hiking/backpacking on my trips to Switzerland in preparation for a hiking trip, I began wearing the boots three to four days a week anywhere from 10 to 12 hours a day just to make sure there were no break-in or fit issues. To date, I have found these boots to be extraordinally comfortable with plenty of room in the toe box even after having worn them all day. These shoes are what I can only describe as an easy and comfortable heel to toe motion when walking. After having spent the day hiking in these shoes, I noticed there was much less stress on my knees and ankles I find these my boot of choice when taking extended walks or hikes. The quality, construction and workmanship of the boot is outstanding. I have no doubt these boots will perform to my expectations when I hit the Jung Frau circuit trail this fall.

Good, light weight boot
September 08, 2010

This seems to be a good, light weight boot. I had them for about a week. I only wore them around the house in order to make sure they fit me right. I had to return them because they didn't fit me right, but there really wasn't anything wrong with the boot. I have an extremely difficult foot to fit because of Morton's Nueroma and the surgeries I have had to alleviate the pain. I usually have to try at least 8 - 10 different pairs of shoes before I find something that causes the least pain.

I took these boots fresh out of the mail on a 22 mile hike through the Yellowstone backcountry. Never leaked an ounce (was wading through streams and had my boots in the lake part of the time). Very comfortable. I was the only adult in the group who didn't have blisters when it was done.

Excellent boot
March 09, 2010

very comfortable, very good support, thick sole (vibram), a little warm with synthetic socks. I have narrow feet and I could tighten it up for a snug fit. High quality. Ordering a second pair. Lowest matching price.
