While many waterproof trail running shoes emphasize weather protection, Montrail's Hurricane Ridge XCR takes comfort a step further with optimal breathability through a lightweight double-ply GORE-TEX® XCR lining. Above the lining you'll also find a special Stretch-Fit GTX® tongue that eliminates the pressure usually encountered by conventional folded gusset tongues. The dual density midsole features medial posting for pronation control--something you and possibly your orthopedic surgeon will appreciate after extended runs.
great except in heat
great trail shoe........run very hot in summer
Very Pleased
I have been trying different shoes in preparation for a JMT hike in August. I got these because of the rainy and wet weather we have here in PA and so far they have kept my feet dry and not too sweaty. They also have a roomy toebox which is nice. They also accepted a pair of superfeet green insoles which adds a bit of cushion. I have a pair of Hardrock Wides on order now and hope they work out for the JMT. Don't want to use Goretex shoes there but I may.
Very Comfortable
I was worried my feet would get really sweaty in Goretex shoes, but so far they have been very comfortable. They look great, feel great, and fit well.

Niceeee
They throw back what ever you can dish out at them. Very comfortable, waterproof, and breathable shoe. AMAZING:)
Great shoes!
Bought these as a fall/winter all-round type of shoe. I do a lot of walking, some running, and the weather where I live is decidedly on the cold and rainy side.
Spent a few days breaking these in with some light walking, and am really happy with how they fit. I wear a size twelve and often have a hard time finding a shoe with the right proportions. These feel custom made.
The tongue design can be troublesome though. You can't step into these, you have to pull them on. However once on your feet this same feature really ensures that the shoe stays put.
Comfort in Simplicity
The Hurricanes are built just like the Leona Divides in the respect of one-piece tongue and sole construction. It a solid, simple shoe that breathes well for being water proof. I am a heavy runner with low arches and these things rock! I got them to run in wet snow/rain but now I'm running in snow/ice in Alaska. Good grip and motion control are key features.
versatile, low weight, durable
Great trail shoe. Very breathable, to the point of almost being cold in the winter. Lack of traditional tongue may bother people with a high instep.
Comfortable, grippy trail shoe
Excellent shoe, wore very well right out of the box. Size ran very large for me though, i usually wear a 10-1/2, but had to drop down to a 10 which was very comfortable. These shoes fit extremely well, feeling roomy without giving the shoe a loose or sloppy feeling. One thing i noticed, which my friend who has the same shoes confirmed it that my feet seem to sweat more. Perhaps it's just more noticable because of the gortex breathability. Tread is great, really digs in and is at home running on the street as well
poor performance
I switched from Salomon to these Montrails after hearing good feedback from an adventure racer. However, these shoes have had only marginal performances at best (and these were ideal conditions). Positives: I did not feel very many rocks while running with these, and feet were not completely soaked after going through slop and mud. Negatives: Twice the weight, has not been "broken in" after 50+ miles of running trails, overbuilt for most racing, gives me more blisters than any other shoe I own. Bottomline: This shoe is more for hiking than running. If you are going to be going through a lot of slop or creeks on your runs just get a quick drying shoe b/c these will get just as wet once you get past ankle deep and will hold WAY more water once your out of it. Just too plain heavy and uncomfortable. So if you hate blisters or get further than ankle deep on your runs, get Salomons.
not worth it
I hike the Appalachian trail two summers ago. I switched to these shoes in Va, and two weeks later, the sides, next to the toe, where the shoe creases, busted out completely through to the foot. Needless to say, the G-tex didn't work after that, and barely worked before that. Montrail was nice enough to send me a new pair, which I strapped on and kept hiking in. Same thing happened again. I ditched these shoes and was lucky enough to find the Solomon XA Pro XCR's, which lasted me the remaining 500 miles of trail I had left. The solomon's are far superior to these.
Terrible
I feel like I'm running on concrete with these shoes. I ran twice with these shoes and have developed sore knees and a tender forefoot. I run nothing but dirt, i.e., fire roads and single track. These are, without a doubt, the worst trail running shoes I've ever used.
