great shoe, watch sizing on '06 models
I'll reiterate the good comments above, with one exception: watch your sizing. I normally wear size 9 Montrail Hurricane Ridges (the gore tex model, another great shoe!) but in this particular year's Hardrock the sizing falls short in the toe box. My toe now is touching the tip of the box in the size 9 that I would normally wear. Nutshell: you might either order a half size larger or, better yet, try it on for size elsewhere if you can before ordering here (at this good price). According to an employee at another gear store, the Montrails, in general, have inconsistencies with fit among different models and even among yearly editions within the same model. Frustrating, but once you find your right size, I have to contend that this model and the Hurricane Ridge (if you feel like having waterproof protection and a socklike fit) are both bang for the buck. I've logged miles over months in these and they hold their own, offering superb fit and resistance to rugged terrain.

solid, stable and stylish
Breaking in my new Montrails here on the back trails of Honduras. Shoes fits extremely well, no side to side motion. I need a little extra arch support and have inserts. Good hiking sock for ball of foot makes everything perfect.

A great overall supportive shoe!
The extra support this shoe has gives me an added support that I have never felt in another running shoe. I have not worn them on trails yet, but anticipate they will be awesome.

Great shoes, comfy right out of the box
I love these shoes. I hike on dirty uneven & rough surfaces. I have had problems with my feet in the past. These shoes make my feet quit hurting. Great support.

I've used these at the Hardrock 100
During the 2005 race when a majority of the course was wet or covered with snow. I never changed socks never once even considered taking the shoes off. After 47 hours and 51 minutes of running, I didn't have one blister. Best trail shoe going.

My Favorite!!
This is a great shoe! I'm on my third pair and still love them the most even after trying other shoes "just in case" there was something else better out there. They have great protection against rocks and a lot of solid cushioning, both of which are very much appreciated after long trail runs. They are also ready to take abuse right out of the box - the inaugural run for the pair I just bought was a 25 mile trail run over pretty rugged terrain and I didn't have any blisters or issues. They also drain water pretty well if you find that you end up running through puddles or shallow creeks. I agree with the other review on the fit - good room in the toe box and nice & snug in the heel & arch (without being too tight). Bottom line - I LOVE the Hardrocks and highly recommend them!

Best Sports Shoe
It doesn't matter whether you're a mall walker or an outdoor runner, if you have a pronation problem that is causing shin splints, lower back pain and/or weak ankles--this is the only shoe you will EVER want to wear again.

Comfy and stable.
I run exclusively on the fabulous trails here in Germany, and these shoes are by far the best ones I've had. I suffer from multiple over-use injuries, and the Hard Rocks offered INSTANT relief from plantar fasciitis. These are really stable shoes with excellent cushioning. Sort of a "does it all" shoe as far as I can see. I bought 4 pairs so that ought to tell you how much I liked them. I'm very happy that Montrail finally offers a true wide width too. Now if this shoe only came in Gore-Tex XCR, I'd be really happy.

Awesome shoe
I've always been a fan of Salomon shoes for trail runs, but I read the review of this in Outside Mag, and decided to give it a try. What a great shoe! It's amazingly comfortable, fits snug where it should (heel and arch) and roomy where it should (in the toe). I'm pregnant now so I won't be running in these for a while, but they're great for hikes and walking. I did a 2 mile hike right out of the box without any problems. For those of you in Alaska or Hawaii... I bought mine from Campmor instead of Altrec. Same price on the shoe, but Campmor charged a normal shipping price ($6) not the usual Alaska sized shipping prices that Altrec wanted ($11). I also got the shoes within 3 bus. days!

Amazing fit
I'm so happy I found this shoe! I brought them on a trip and had to use them for every athletic activity I had. They proved to have better stability on the tennis court than my actual tennis shoes, and had great traction for golf! Talk about getting your money's worth! They're the best hiking shoe I've ever had.

Awwwesome
The Hardrocks rock! I was skeptical about deviating from the Leona Divides, because of my Achilles injury. However one run in the Hardrocks has made me a converter..... From the moment I put them on I was awed by the fit. Montrail, did you make these shoes based on my foot anatomy?? Well maybe I am not that lucky, but it sure does feel like it! The arch hits in the right spot, actually it offers so much support I am very reluctant to add my orthodics (may cause over correction) to the hardrocks. I also love the straight lasted bottom, on the trails it offered great support and a superb strike plate, staying rigid and solid on the uneven rooty ground. Have I mentioned the traction the Hardrocks have?..........Most excellent similar to the Leona Divides. The only downside that I have noticed is the weight. They are not as heavy as the vitesse's but not as light as the Leona's. However for the stability I will accept the few ounces. You will not go wrong with the NEW HARDROCKS!!!
