Excellent trail shoe
March 24, 2012
This is my first pair of Montrail shoes and I purchased them because of user-submitted reviews, so I figured I'd do my part by adding to the community. I like to try my gear out for several months before writing a review, since longevity is a crucial factor in determining overall performance and quality. I've beaten these shoes up on rocky, steep terrain in the Cleveland National Forest, the San Gabriel Mountains, the San Bernardino Mountains, and the Sierra Nevadas. I've logged hundreds of miles using them as both a running shoe and a hiking shoe. I'm not sure about the prevailing wisdom on this, but I've used them for overnight hikes and week-long backpacking trips and loved the grip. These shoes give me confidence when I'm hiking straight up a rocky mountainside or when I'm sliding down on my backside. They also fit true to size. I wear a size eleven and these shoes are perfect for me. I wore them straight out of the box on a 14-mile dayhike in Cleveland NF. I highly recommend this product to anybody!
Outstanding Shoe

Fits true to size. I often wear a shoe one-half size too large for adequate toe room, but the Masochist has the roomy toe box my foot demands. On the trail, traction is excellent. I run single-track trails in Cleveland NF where the terrain is often steep with lots of granite; I'm impressed with the excellent footing. I can lace the shoes to conform to my feet so they stay firmly seated but comfortable. Another must-have for my foot is cushion, and the Masochist has plenty of it. In fact, because of the cushion, I'd recommend breaking the shoes in somewhat as the friction created by the cushion can be a source of blisters if one is to run a half marathon with these shoes right out of the box. The insoles need a little time to compress before going with hard and long runs.
Pros: generous toe box, cushion, traction, fitLove at first lace

These are reasonably light, very breathable, and I love the color. The toebox is fairly wide, which makes them comfortable all day. They have a bit of stability for mild overpronaters that is pretty nice too. I will wear these spring-fall and hope they don't change them like they did the old Hardrocks!

Fits true to size. Good cushion to get pass those roots. These are my first pair of trail runners and I am very pleased with the support it provides. Will invest in another once this one dies.
Great shoe, Highly Recommend!

Great shoe. Fit was great right out of the box, and I am usually a difficult fit (Size 15, 6'8'' 275 lbs). They did not need any break-in time. Also noticed that they are very comfortable. Initial thoughts were a great look, and the appearance of very quality construction and high quality materials. The toe is rugged enough for the trails I run, tongue was cushy for protection, and the heel cap felt good and snug. Also, the lacing system allows you to ratchet down for looser surfaces or ease up if need be. I cannot speak to durability as I have only had them for a week. Took them for their first run the following day, and was blown away. Stable and responsive enough for gravel and debris covered trails, yet also with enough protection for bigger obstacles. Sole has yet to slip, even on wet leaves! Also took them out on the road just as a test, and they are cushioned enough for the occasional trek on a paved surface. Great look, great fit, great shoe. I highly recommend; if you are a trail runner, you will love this shoe.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, great lookgood shoe

These are great trail shoes. They are very light and comfortable. They have a moderate amount of toe box protection. I would recommend these shoes for any trail runner.
A must have trail running shoe!

These are one of the best Montrail running shoes I've ever had. They are very durable and tough. I've used them in a couple of ultras and most of my training runs. They'll adjust to your feet almost immediately after a couple of runs. I just started using my 3rd pair a couple of weeks ago. An essential item in my running gear, definitely.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, PerformanceFavorite Trail Runners

Fantastic Shoes, the fit is great, runs true to size and no break in required.
Great Performance

Ran a 50 mile trail race this past weekend in the shoe with only 20 previous miles on them before race day. Performed brilliantly! Snug and comfortable fit on my average width foot. I like to wear my footwear a little longer than most so plenty of toe room but not a lot of unneeded width. Solid ride, not as cushy as say the Brooks Cascadia, but more then enough impact protection for longer runs. Great underfoot protection from roots and rocks and good traction on slick surfaces. I really dig the lightweight balanced feel of the shoe the most. Have a 100 coming up and might get a fresh pair for the later miles.
Extremely comfortable shoes
March 12, 2010
These are possibly the most comfortable running shoes I have ever worn. They fit very well (seems to run slightly small) and the cushioning seems perfect. They provide excellent traction on all surfaces; I originally bought these for just trail running but I am using them for road running as well. I am going to order a second pair for when these wear out.
Comfortable, Supportive, Light, & Well Constructed

I have been an asics person for years but after running in the Masochist, I have found a new favorite brand. The shoes seem really well made and are very comfortable. A Good buy
I'll buy another pair

These shoes breath well and drain well. Although stable and relatively low profile, they're plush enough to mix the asphalt into the run when you have to.
GREAT SHOES

This was my first purchase with montrial. Shoes fit like a glove right out of the box. Very light weight and have good grip. I already want to get another pair.
Great Shoes

Great shoes. Great arch support and cushioning. Initially I was just going to use these for trail running, but have now begun using them as my shoe for running or working out anywhere. And because of the materials they don't stain or look haggard after all the wear so I wear them out too. Getting a lot of mileage out of these.
Good shoes

I have been using them for running in Afghanistan for 1 months now with no problems, comfortable with good support for running on trails. The lace material tends to come untied if not double knotted.
A+

Great shoes, they fit snug and to size. What I really like about these shoes is that they aren't clunky. They are trim and to the point without being flashy. They have great arch support and the tongue cushion supports. Can't get enough of 'em.
