Mountain Hardwear's waterproof/breathable Ascent Vision Jacket provides extra torso coverage for added protection for a wide range of snow sports and casual winter activities. Extended pit zips along the sleeves enhance venting and cooling comfort during prolonged ascents or late spring skiing. Inset reinforcements under and along the arms, elbows and cuffs help protect the garment from the abrasive wear associated with snowboarding and snow sliding. This is a do-it-all cold weather piece that works and plays exceptionally well with other breathable inner layers. The internal mesh water bottle--a feature usually only found on high-end mountaineering outerwear--is a nice added touch that potentially eliminates the need for carrying a bulky hydration pack.

Just returned from two weeks in Europe and the Alps. This jacket worked great when the wind , cold and rains came. It is comfortable to wear and the handwarmer pockets feel great.

I got this jacket for a two week trip to Yellowstone. It worked great, it kept me dry in the rain, the hood stays on to my head with two straps it has, and it's breathable.

I have been looking for a replacement for my 5 year old Patagonia Triolet Jacket, which served me well and is now serving someone else well. I wanted a closer fitting jacket, was considering soft shell, and was sceptical of waterprrof zippers, mainly because it looked like they would break down quickly and would be hard to manage with gloves on. This jacket is simple in design - not a lot of extra stuff on it, which is good. it has a higher cut around the waist, which I was also looking for - so it should fit nicely with a harness. it has a nicely integrated powder skirt which does not seem to get in the way when not in use. there is a mesh lining, which i was indifferent about, but which should make it more comfortable on spring days with just a t-shirt. the zip-off hood looks well engineered to me. the fleece lining around the collar makes it comfortable on a bare neck. it seems to wear well when i move actively - it does not ride up when my hands are over my head, and i feel like i have a full range of motion with a piece that does NOT have stretch panels like many other new jackets. i will report more after some more usage outside. overall, it seems like a good multi sport piece that will work well skiing/snowboarding, but also serve well as a good, lightweight shell for summer backpacking use if it gets a little moist or windy.
