Hammerhead 2 tent and Hammerhead 2 Footprint
This was my first tent purchase, and the customer service and chat was great in the decision making. It was used in a recent 4 day hunting trip, night time temp was 22 degree's with light rain. The hammerhead held up and stood its ground, and since it was a two man tent I was able to keep all my gear dry and out of the weather. I was also impressed with the weight, no big issues of packing it in. A two thumbs up.

Liked the original so well that I bought the recent model also.
This tent is a little heavy but it is a three season tent with four season capability. Works perfectly for late fall and early winter where you can expect thunderstorms or early snow with wind and be a perfect haven for two. I bought the updated version with vented doors for a little more air movement in warm weather.

Weather worthy tent
I've had the MHW hammerhead 2 tent for about three years and it's been in countless heavy wind(20-35mph+winds) and in heavy rain storms. I also use it in winter and have had no problems with it in winter conditions. The hammerhead tent has performed when I've needed it the most. The inside of the tent is roomy even with two 6ft. persons in it. The tent has great ventilation and is roomy inside.

Mountain Hardwear: Hammerhead 2 Tent
Altrec shipped and delivered as promised. Thanks! I've only used this tent once so far. It is easy to set up and the fly makes the tent bomb proof in the wind. I used the tent at 12,000 feet in gusty winds with temps overnight into the low 40's. Stayed warm inside and didn't flap very much in the wind. I did pin the fly tight to the ground which made the vestibule area pretty small. With all 2 man tents these days it would be a tight squeeze with two. For one lots of room for pack and boots inside. Good interior height. A little heavy if your going to pack it (~9 pounds w/footprint). Also need to pick up some extra stakes. It is supposed to come with 10,either I lost one or it came with 9. Either way you need more, maybe 14 or so for a full install. May try the footprint - fly option for summer backpacking to save a few pounds.

amazing tent.*
I bought the 3 person version of the hammerhead. I can't say one bad thing about it. I've used it on 4 trips so far with my boyfriend and our 2 dogs. It's ventilation was the key factor for us purchasing it. It also has tons of room and is fast to put up/take down. Id definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone. 'mel

Hammerhead 2 Paradigm
Mountain Hardware did their homework. This tent offers exceptional "V to the 3rd Power" (views, ventilation, versatility). It is comfortable, with enough length (98"!) and width to easily accomodate my 6'2", 195lb frame. Headroom is exceptionally high and sidewalls are steep and unobtrusive. What you have is a greenhouse-like SPACE for two - unlike some two person ultralights. Set up is a snap, weight is low, fabrics and hardware are beautiful, well designed, and high quality. Frustrated with many tent designs, I began to contact the major tent manufacturers with detailed suggestions. During the process I ran across the Hammerhead 2 in an ad in the Backpacker Magazine 2002 Gear Guide. Two weeks later we saw it and bought it at Galyan's for $147.90 (wholesale). After use we sent the tent body back to Mountain Hardware for a minor modification: zippored mesh doors added to the inside of the solid panel doors already included (total cost still below retail). Now it's a true convertible but better than my previous favorite tent - a Moss Titan GT. The 36x8x8 sq. ft. Hammerhead 2 is superior to the Titan (now MSR Superfusion). It is lighter, has two doors (easy in-out for two), two vestibules (more gear storage options) and more overhead mesh for stargazing. In fact, it has more viewing versatility period. The windowed rainfly folds back over the roof with no vestibule hoop to contend with. This yields an awesome 270 degree spherical view of the stars and ground area around the tent. Pitch the Hammerhead away from trees and with the front facing your chosen view. You'll be inspired. You'll wonder why the Hammerhead took so long to get here. My wife loves it. My kids love it. I have to hump it and since its has all the features we appreciate and is in a relatively small packaged size - I love it.

Wicked small and wet vestibule
Just got back from a trip in Canada. We have the Hammerhead 3, very spacious inside, and held up to 20-25 mph sustained winds with higher gusts well. Great ventilation and versatility in dry weather. The tent performed quite well with the exception of the tiny vestibule. Unzipping it tended to dump water in the tent entrance door. I would rate the tent as a 5 star for most condiitons except entering and exiting during rain and mist

Enjoy outview in tent
You can see stars in the sky when you lie in the tent. It's wonderful camping experience. If it's cool or rainy you use fly to keep warming. I recommand you buy footprint togrther when you order tent. It will be very useful when ground camping.

Great tent
Very well built tent. Set up is easy and fast, tent has great ventilation. Plenty of head room and easy entrace and exit with two door. Vestibules have plenty of room for gear. First night I stayed in tent we had some heavy hail and the tent held up great, not one problem.

great tent -- packs too big
I mostly liked the two doors, the two vestibules, the huge mesh area, its length, I' stand 6' foot 4", and above all the roll--- up fly. But I did not like the length of the poles when packed up. The crooked pole packs to as much as 60cm/ 23.5") unless put under tension (51cm/ 20''"). Btw the MHW specs claim it' packs to 17''", no way. Bottom line: It fit my pack rather awkwardly. I ended up buying a different tent.
