Pockets way to small
September 23, 2012

I was very disappointed that the new pair of shorts I ordered had pockets barely half the size of my old pair, making it almost impossible to carry the few items I usually have in my pockets when hiking. Stuffing anything in the pockets makes them uncomfortable to wear, especially if scrambling on boulders or talking high steps on a steep trail. I'll stick to my old pair for now.

Great Shorts for Hiking
January 02, 2012

I bought these as my primary hiking shorts and they have not disappointed. Climbed Half Dome in these (20 miles round-trip) with no issues. They are very comfortable and are highly flexible. When you put these shorts on, you'll just want to explore! Haven't done any canyoneering with them, but it seems they'd be perfect for it given the flexibility. The material claims to be fast drying. I have not fully submerged these shorts but I have gotten them wet and the material did dry fast... Also, there is a small zipper on the bottom side of the short which is useful for storing keys, IDs, etc. And the belt does what it's supposed to do. I bought a Large and I'm a 34 waist. Just a tad big on me but nothing that couldn't be fixed with the belt. There's not much to dislike about these shorts. If there's one thing it's the pockets. They are wide but not deep. This is a trade-off for the shorts flexibility features, and something that I can live with. Overall, definitely suffice for hiking!

Perfect everyday short
July 17, 2012

Shorts are perfect. Very light weight material, but does not feel cheap. Slightly larger than I expected, but fit fine due to adjustable waist cinch. Smooth appearance (i.e. "hidden" pockets) make the shorts appropriate for a dressier occasion, too, as long as I keep them clean!

Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Great value

Stellar
July 25, 2011

These shorts are stellar! Light, comfortable, fit great (true to size) and the fabric drys super fast. I'm 6'2" 185 lbs wear a 32 in shorts and the medium fit perfect. Only bad thing about the shorts in my opinion is the pockets directly in the front are a tad awkward.

Nice updated design
August 03, 2011

I have been buying Canyon shorts and pants for many years. This is my first with the new design and longer inseam. The sizing fits like the older design. I wear a medium, 5-9 and 155 lbs. The longer inseam is a nice change ... my teenage kids don't tease me with the longer version. The zippered side pocket is only on the right side and has a key holder strap which works well. The pocket is long enough to hold my reading glasses case. I wish the pocket below the zipper was 2 inches instead of 1 so coins and other small stuff would stay in better when I reach in to get something. The belt has a tendency to rotate inside the long belt loop (not sure when this happens), but I notice it when I'm putting them on. Old version of the shorts this never happens. There is a single belt loop on the front left where the belt exits which is great to hang my Leatherman. The 'new' front pockets take a little time getting used to. They are not there to stuff your hands in, but to carry small things (shorter than my reading glasses!). Best part about the front pockets is stuff does not fall out when you sit down (like the old model) because the waist crease closes off the pocket opening. I like the inside waist lining. My wife's version of these shorts have had this feature for many years. I wore them for a week long trip canoeing, hiking, biking, sailing and swims in the lake during the day and family reunions at night. Fit well for all these activities. Washed them a few times in between and just hung them up (by the key strap in the pocket) to air dry. Even my in-laws made positive comments about how good they looked.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Great value

I love Mountain Hardware Shorts
October 03, 2011

I love Mountain Hardware Shorts Waist belt, and some are my favorite shorts. Length is adequate. I hope the price is cheaper if you can. Is comfortable to wear. Color is conservative. Mareupnida wet easily. The North Face shorts and even better comparison I would like to give a good score.

Great Fitting Short
August 09, 2011

Looks great, fits great, wears great. My husband loves 'em for wearing on the trail and around town. They are neat enough for a casual dinner out, yet stretch and move freely when hiking. He's taking them on a month long backpack as his primary shorts.

Happy Hiker
August 11, 2011

These Canyon Shorts arrived just in time for a warm weather hike in the Catskills. They are comfortable, lightweight yet sturdy with lots of secure pockets. Nice looking too! Dried out pretty quickly when we got rained out. This was a good buy.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Cons: few color choices
