better than the SZSL!
December 21, 2011

The Chillwave is better than my old (still in use) MH subzero SL. The Chillwave is waterproof,& the Airshield works as described. Bafflesjeave no cold spots. Coat has a lot of down but is still vey light. Good pockets, collar stays up & its a great hood if you don't wear hats. Fabric doesn't spit feathers. A nice step up from the HunkerDown. I can't see why the average guy would want/need AbsoluteZero ( no mountains in Ks) Altrec has great pricing, service & they put the customer first! Did I mention the Chillwave is extremely WARM? Bought Red,shiny with dull contrast. Color is as good as the blue. Thanks Altrec & MH.

Excellent jacket
August 15, 2011

I actually bought this jacket at the height of summer, so a proper test of its capabilities has yet to take place. I live in Northern Colorado, so a warm, water-resistant jacket is a must in the depths of winter. Mountain Hardwear is a brand that I've come to trust over the years, and judging by putting it on, I'd say this one will be no exception.

Pros: Great design, Build quality

Perfect Warm Jacket
October 23, 2011

Last year I made the mistake of not bringing a good jacket on my hunting trip. As I sat there in 20 degree temp waiting for the sun to come up, my body continued to loose heat. The first shots started going off and the adrenaline started to flow. After a while the adrenaline went away but I remained cold and I found myself shivering quite badly. I had been sitting in sub freezing temps for three hours now and I was miserable. I doubt I would have placed a good shot as badly as I was shivering. As soon as I came home from that trip I began the search for a new jacket and found the Sub Zero SL Hooded Down Jacket. I got one from altrec because they had the size/color I wanted and had it for a good price. I was eager to put it to the test on this year’s hunting trip. Opening day, 4:30 AM, ….18 degrees and windy. Perfect. I had stuffed the jacket into the stuff sack (which is a very small & light package) and placed it in my hunting pack along with the other essentials. After a 2 mile hike to my stand and changing into some dry clothes, I donned the new jacket and sat down to wait. I sat there hunkered down in the wind and 20 degree temps for over three hours and never once felt uncomfortable. I had not even put on the extra layer of thermal under garments I had in my pack. This jacket is perfect. It compresses down into an incredibly tight package and weights nothing compared to a comparable non-down jacket. It’s wind proof and the lined pockets are fantastic. Best purchase I made all year!!

Great Jacket
December 25, 2010

Excellent build quality and fit. This jacket is definitely built with an outdoors person in mind. Heavy duty zipper, armored shoulders and elastic cuffs with Velcro fasteners are great. I also like the provided stuff sack for stowing while hiking or traveling. This jacket also looks great! This could be the last cold weather jacket I ever buy. I am 5'10" and 195 and the Large fits just right. I will also add that Altrec was the only place online that had a large sapphire color in stock and at the best price!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Great Hooded Jacket
February 04, 2008

Sizing note holds true, I ordered one size down and it fit the way I like it to. This jacket is worm and made well. I like the way they make their products a little shorter. I will be ordering more of their jackets, when the one I want becomes available.

Perfect winter parka
November 16, 2010

Jacket lenth means light weight. Saphire color very nice. Hood is well designed.

It doesn't get better than this!
November 12, 2009

First let me say that this parka is ridiculous in a good way. I have never in my life had such a warm jacket. I have yet to test it on any mountains worth noting however, I have used it extensively this winter while outside. I live in Michigan so I'll let you in on the average weather we've been having when I busted this jacket out. It was snowing at least a foot a day as well as peek daily temperatures being below zero with the wind chill added in. Now on to the part you're probably reading for... despite the cold weather all I would wear is a t-shirt and the Absolute Zero Parka and that would be more than enough to stay perfectly warm. This jacket is intense. I once made the mistake of shoveling snow in this Bad Jackson and that was a terrible mistake, by the time I was finished I had the jacket all the way unzipped with sweat collecting on my forehead. I'll say it once again, this jacket is intense. If your looking for the ultimate parka to combat intense cold and wind this is it. Zipper is huge and easy to use when wearing mittens as well as the draw cords at the bottom for blocking out the wind does its job very well.

A keeper.
December 16, 2005

I tested my new jacket yesterday during the ice storm here in the mountains of Va. The roads were bad, so I had to hike several miles to work in horizontal sleet, snow and freezing rain. The jacket kept me very warm, and shed all of the water and ice like a champ! The neck protection is especially nice. I feel very confident taking it out for serious outdoor trips this winter.

Hot stuff
December 17, 2005

I bought this jacket for sedentary activities like watching football games. I was always freezing and wanted something to keep me warm. The jacket is like a sub-zero sleeping bag. I bought the jacket instead of the parka in case I ever decide to use it for winter climbing/mountaineering. A good addition to any jacket collection.

Exceptional Gear That Keeps You Warm.
January 06, 2010

This jacket has developed an outstanding reputation over the years by not only being a warm jacket, but by being manufactured by a company that strives on being the best in the industry. The conduit shell is rugged and practically waterproof. The quality of down is excellent. The personal features are practical and functional. Sizing is great or at least it is for my build. I am 6' and weigh around 165-170, have a 21.5" Osprey sized torso and have long arms. My size in this jacket is a large that fits perfect. I can raise my arms over my head without the sleeves leaving my wrist. Also, there is ample room for layers in the chest and waist area. Remember, this is a jacket and folks should not expect it to cover more than a couple of inches below your waist. If you want anything lower than that, you may consider the Sub-Zero Parka which is designed for more coverage below the waist area. Altrec is also a great online company to deal with. The shipping is super fast and customer support is super.

Purchased for my son. He usually takes a Medium in Mountain Hardwear, and this jacket (Medium) fit him well. He is 5'10" with a slight build. He is very particular about how clothes "feel" to him-ie-seams rubbing against him are irritating. He finds this jacket to be extremely comfortable. He has worn it to walk around campus and has been warm and toasty. Purchased it in black as the other colors were too bright for his style.

Pros: Build quality, Ease of use

5 for features 1 for sizing
October 24, 2007

I'm 5'4" and it's too short and I am a female and I should be able to get a small but it is too short. Of course, the medium is too large in the shoulders. Most women don't like the women design coat.

The light and strong jacket!
December 14, 2009

This jacket is the gift I bought for my friends. We are in northeastern china. When we are in the cold wind of this winter, the jacket made my friends warm enough. It is so light that my friends said that it's just like a softshell.

Awesome Jacket
October 22, 2009

Weighs next to nothing, the hood is SO much better than any other down jacket out there, and has Conduit SL which is way more burly than the regular Sub Zero. Depending on what you are going to be using it for, you might want to go with the parka version for the few inches longer on the bottom. But seriously, I can't complain. I would recommend this to anyone that needs serious warmth and excellent quality. Definitely a higher end Mountain Hardwear product.

Aptly Named
February 12, 2006

This is an excellent addition to my cold-weather gear. The construction seems to be quite good overall and the zippers (the detail I always examine first) are first-rate. The hood is well designed and keeps you toasty without obscuring your vision; it zips on and off easily. Be warned, this jacket is aptly named; this is a VERY warm jacket. For serious hiking, I would not even consider wearing this jacket until the temps hover around 0 degrees as I find it too warm when the temps are higher. However, it is teriffic for everyday, non-athletic activities around town. All in all, a great value.

great parka, a little short
March 06, 2006

This is a fantastic parka. It compressed down to a very small size, and the hood is very comfortable. This kept me very warm at the summit of kilimanjaro and in freezing weather in the mountains of north carolina. My one complaint is that its a bit short and if you have a long torso you may be disappointed; for me it reached to a few inches below my waist. Its warm enough that on a cold night with some fleece pants and underwear I could sleep outside my bag if I wanted to.

Reliable, Water Proof, Warm...
October 25, 2006

This has been my cold weather ice climbing/belay/at camp parka. Ive used it in sub zero temperatures and I've lived to tell the tale. The waterproof Conduit SL shell is what sold me on this jacket in the first place. In a total downpour the water beads up, but eventually makes the jacket sloppy and heavy. In snow, sleet and freezing rain (the most common precipitation you are bound to encounter in this jacket) I have never had a problem, nor have I been worried that the integrity and warmth of the jacket could become compromised. For the price, the jacket is a solid piece of equipment. I've had the jacket for two years, worn it HARD and its still kicking. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks.

Excellent cold weather gear
July 14, 2008

Mountain Hardwear makes excellent cold weather clothing. This jacket is no exception - it is very light in weight, but will keep you warm in the coldest conditions. The hood and face protection do a great job as well.

Terrific Jacket!
January 11, 2010

Great Coat. Very Warm and fit was true to size.

Fantastic combination of form and function
February 06, 2007

When its cold enough to need a down coat, you may as well have the hood. This jacket insulates well and blocks wind. As I expect from Mountain Hardwear, the construction is sturdy. I expect I'll be wearing this for many more Montana winters.

Really warm and light
January 28, 2009

I bought this jacket few weeks ago. I am 6' 195 pounds and the large fits me perfectly. I do have space for layers in it. I am surprised how light and warm this jacket is. You barely feel it when wearing it but, wow, this jacket is warm. I went hiking last weekend in it and even if temperature was between -20 and -40 C I did not even felt the cold!!! The stuff sack that comes with it is really useful when you need to layer down!

Front Could be Better!
May 29, 2009

Front is too short--could use AT LEAST 1-1.5" and still maintain its functionality for belaying. Ragalan sleeves are great. Pockets are all fleece. Enough down to keep you warm to -5F. Baffled construction prevents cold going through the stitches. Hood has a good amount of down and is functional with different gear on your head.

awesome jacket
June 16, 2012

I got this jacket over the North Face ones due to the good reviews. I have not had EXTENSIVE time to test out the jacket but it is definitely comfortable, well-made, and warm as heck. I cannot attest to the waterproofing or the water-resistance yet but it will definitely do the job in terms of keeping you warm and safe from the wind. It is not the most expensive jacket but it is a good quality, especially for the price. I recommend it for anyone who wandered around looking at so many different jackets like I did without being able to make up their mind. If you have an opportunity, try and go into a local store for fitting. If you cannot, I would probably go with the larger of the two sizes that might fit, just because you will most likely be layering and, even if not, bigger doesn't hurt as much as smaller does. **Will report more on rain after more severe testing

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value

Great Jacket! Poor Zipper.
January 26, 2009

Great lightweight Jacket! Would buy again but I have to agree that the zipper is hard to start and will prematurely unzip if you tighten the lower drawcords at the bottom of the jacket.

A great bargain that doesn't look like one!
December 03, 2005

Got the jacket a couple weeks ago and I was impressed with its water resistent shell right out of the box. Tap water just rolled right off of it, and it also looks great compared with non-laminated nylon. The genreal design and worksmanship detail that went into this jacket appeared excellent, much better than other brand name jackets in this price range that I checked out at various sports stores in Toronto, which don't even come with a hood. Haven't had a chance to really test it out in the elements yet, but I fully expect it to perform as described in the other reviews. The one thing that kinda bothers me now is the shortness of the torso - the bottom of the front of this jacket only comes down to the top portion the sleeve cuff, and the back maybe an inch or so longer than that. I had to pull the botton drawstring tight to provent cold air from going up walking around town. However this may become an advantage for high exertion activities like hiking and snowboarding. I'll soon find out...

I found it to be very short. I have a Patagonia light "sweater" that is supposed to be the same length. It fits fine but the Sub Zero was very short so I returned it. Otherwise, the jacket was fantastic. I plan to buy the parka version instead.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: Bad design

Perfect for Canadian winters!
December 30, 2005

This is a great bomber style down jacket. It looks good enough to wear around town with the hood zipped off and warm enough to handle the coldest Canadian winters with the hood up. The hood is wonderful and I wouldn't be wihout it. The jacket is well constructed with many well thought out features. Mountain Hardwear impresses me once again with their quality and attention to detail.

Remarkable jacket
February 09, 2009

I haven't bought a down coat in 30 years. That is how long my old North Face lasted. I bought this on a recommendation. It is even nicer than my old coat. At -30F it feels like nothing but is so warm. The hood is roomy and fits well. At warmer temps, it is not too warm. It is even water resistant. And I can stuff it in its included stuff sack. It is just about perfect in my estimation. I'm 6 ft and 180 lbs with slightly longer arms. Medium fit me very well. Large is not that much larger though.

Warmth for Really Cold Weather

My first use of this jacket was on a winter climb of one of Colorado's 14,000 peaks. It was -5 degrees and I was toasty. I'm 5'8" and 170 lbs.; the medium is a perfect fit.

GREAT Jacket!!!!
December 04, 2009

Let em get to the point. This jacket will keep you warm in arctic temperatures. Here in Colorado, we just had an arctic front come through with temps topping at 20 and hitting -8 in the LOW COUNTRY!! For those of you that know this is coooooooold for these parts. Luckily I had just picked up this amazing coat a month earlier in preparation. The only thing I would say even remotely negatively is that it could stand to be even one inch longer, but I hear there is a parka. It would be worth it. Buy this coat if you have the chance!

December 28, 2005

Outstanding in every respect. Very light, very warm, etc with lots of nice extra details/features I've discovered over time. Nicely water resistant, yet breathable, shell for a down jacket and not it's too puffy for driving. Good length for active use but I'd also consider the longer MH SubZero SL parka as well for more casual wearing.

Great Jacket & Excellent Service from Altrec
January 08, 2010

This is a WARM jacket. The finish is a bit shiny, but I suppose it repels moisture well. Haven't had it out in any precip yet. Hood is functional and detaches if not needed. Also, this is a jacket, not a parka. Be aware of that if you want coat that comes down below your belt. I am 6' and wear a 44R sport coat. The large fits just right, save for the bottom of the jacket coming down to just at my belt buckle. Would give this jacket a 9/10. Only complaint, and it is minor one, is it could come down about an inch longer. I guess I could have sent it back to get an XL, but then I would have longer sleeves. I would definitely purchase this jacket again. Don't hesitate to deal with Altrec. Service was lightning fast.

Great Jacket!
January 20, 2011

First, as a disclaimer, I got this coat for use mainly while biking and walking around Boston on the coldest of cold days, so I can't speak to its use for actual mountaineering or climbing. I've also only had it for about 2 weeks, so it's sort of an early review. Fit: I'm about 170 lbs and 6'0" and the Medium was the correct fit for me. However, as the description and the reviews suggest, it does fall a little shorter than I would like (top of my pants) considering I don't need to wear a harness with it. This does let some cold air in, but that is remedied with the elastic cords that can be cinched in at the waist. Other than that the fit is pretty good, although because I'm a pretty thin guy, I have a little extra space in the chest/stomach which I suppose I could use for layering, but it's so warm I don't foresee really needing to. However, in the end, it's not a deal breaker for me, so I still enjoy/recommend it. Additionally, it is a little bulky, so I felt odd walking around the mall with it, but obviously that's sort of out of its designed environment, so I won't fault it for that. Warmth: Obviously, the main reason to buy this jacket is for its warmth, and I'd say it delivers pretty solidly. I was biking in about 18* weather with a light dress shirt on underneath and I wasn't cold in the slightest. The insulated hood is one of the main reasons I picked this coat, and I absolutely love it. It's amazing what a difference it makes in the overall sensation of warmth (and not just heat lost through the head as I expected, but the back of the neck as well, which I hadn't realized). Overall the jacket is very warm and easily matches the cold/windy Boston winters. Fabric/Waterproof: Between shoveling my car out while it was still snowing, and walking for about 10 minutes in the rain, I did get to test the water repelling abilities of the fabric somewhat. The good news is that it never seemed to get wet enough so that it actually affected the warmth, the bad news is that the outer fabric did start to feel a little saturated, so I'm not sure if prolonged exposure would start to be an issue. But again, I didn't buy this expecting it to be a raincoat, so I'd say its behavior has been adequate. Other than that the fabric seems durable enough that I haven't been petrified of walking by shrubs in fear that they'd rip the fabric. Other Features/Comments: I love the hood, and I love the pieces that velcro in front, it sealed my head and face perfectly, without being obnoxious. I don't love the zipper, it's a little chunky and doesn't come together/apart as smoothly as I'd like, but again, not a deal breaker. The pockets are excellent, as not only are they fleece lined, but they're on the inside of the down, as opposed to other jackets where the pockets have practically no insulation. However, because they are designed to be warn with a harness, the pockets are slightly high up, but not in a ridiculous way. Overall: I'm very happy with this jacket, it's almost a perfect match for what I wanted. My only major gripe is that it does fit shorter than I'd like, but I knew that going into it, and it's not significant enough to outweigh the positives. I would recommend this jacket to anyone that wants a no-excuses, really freakin' warm jacket and isn't afraid of always looking like they just came down from Everest.

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great value, toasty awesome hood!, Cons: fits short

Great Jacket
January 12, 2010

This jacket is the best purchase I have made. I usually buy cheaper bards of jacket and always regret it. I did not want to spend that much for a coat but my wife has a similar coat and loves her. Now that I have the jacket it was well worth the price. If you want quality you pay for it. You will get many years out of this jacket.

too short for a 6 footer
January 23, 2008

i recieved this jacket as a gift. it is very warm, and wind proof. -20 degrees and i wear a t-shirt underneath. however this garment needs to be longer. they should not even sell the jacket, only the parka. it also should have a powder skirt for extra protection. should have gotten a parka!!

very lightweight and very warm
January 21, 2008

Make sure you get one size larger than your regular sizing. I got a M for my husband and the inseam was just too short. If you bent down, the back area would be exposed to elements. I had to sent it back for an exchange for a L size. Otherwise, the jacket is extremely well made. I would suggest this MH company to improve on the design by elongating the waist length to at least one-two inch longer to a parka length. Then the jacket would be perfect. Five stars for the warmth factor. Four stars to the design.

October 26, 2009

Very warm for the first winter snowfall. Well tailored and the hood should be extremely cozy. Like the reverseable zipper and the sapphire color is quite catchy.

a good but not great piece of colthing/equipment.
February 08, 2007

this coat has the worst zipper of any piece of gear i have ever owned. i do believe that if i were in the outdoors for several days of single digit temps i would possibly freeze my fingers trying to get the zipper started. the collar stands up nicely however there is a seam at the collar top which, in the scheme of things, should be eliminated as several coats i have worn before have done. i like the body construction overall.

Great Quality

Great Quality Jacket. First Mountain Hardware item, very pleased. Great service, arrived early! Exceeded my expectations, normal for Altrec!

Great purchase

This jacket is very light but also warm. The zippers are high quality and don't seize up. The exterior pockets have zippers and are deep so that even without the zippers closed, things won't fall out. A great investment!

Very Good Jacket
January 10, 2010

Fits true to size, warm, perfect fit, comfortable. goes good with Eddie Bauer Pants.

Not good for the tall and skinny
May 17, 2007

First of all, I don't doubt that this is a great coat. I had never bought a down coat before (didn't need one in MD, but I'm going to college in VT this fall) and several different people recommended this specific coat. I got the jacket today (size L) and it's way too short. I'm 6'3" and 155 pounds (tall and skinny) and it just doesn't work. It's a little bit big around on me, which is how it should be, and the sleeves are a good length (past my wrists) but it's much too short. When I'm standing up, arms down, it barely goes down to the top of my butt, as in it would hardly cover my beltline. Raising my arm above my head pulls the bottom of the coat above the top of my hips. It's too short. I would not consider ordering an XL because the L works perfectly other than length. I may order the parka. To this jacket's credit, it does seem to be really high quality, it's very lightweight, and it made me extremely hot on wearing it just for a minute on a 70 degree day...I'm sure it would give me no problems well below freezing. So, it's still a darn good jacket, but it's not for the tall and skinny. Better for those who are more evenly proportioned, and best for those who are short for their build. Anyway, kudos to Altrec on their return policy, I'll be doing that today and it seems fairly painless. Quick note: the coat in the photo is the Parka, not the Jacket.

Great Deal

Amazingly light jacket and yet it is still incredibly warm. Cuts the wind like no other. Great price for such a quality jacket.

Phat and warm
December 05, 2005

Teriffically warm jacket -- performs well in New England winter climate. I'm warm! Tough, sheds water, light, stuffs down to a small package. I'm 5'2", 120 lbs, female, and the men's XS fits well. I can get away with a size S also. A baselayer plus another jacket (softshell) fits underneath if needed and doesn't hinder movement. Shopping at Altrec is easy, the deals are good, and returns are not a hassle.

Excellent Jacket
May 25, 2010

I bought this jacket for my husband to wear while watching our boys Nordic ski race. He loves it because it is very warm, comfortable and has a hood that keeps the wind out! Also, great service from ALTREC. Thanks.

Light, warm, very resistent, extremely wind proof.
January 17, 2007

It is an outstanding jacket. Very light, extremely warm and plenty of space for store things. I have used for riding my motorcycle, the temperature was 29 degrees Fahrenheit and I was riding at 80 miles per hour and the jacket is 100% wind proof. One feature that I like a lot is the very well designed and warm detachable hood. The jacket is superb in any respect.

Great jacket
March 26, 2008

Have only used it a couple of times but winter in the north of Norway is COLD. I havent been cold once using this jacket. Its ultra lightweight and a great purchase.

Unless you are going to Everest this is the jacket.
February 16, 2007

I just spent the weekend watching ski jumping in Wisconsin and was standing in all afternoon in 10 F. and was very comfortable without using the hood yet. I could jump into a car and drive for an hour and not over heat. It is very warm and comfortable with a great look. I normally wear size large in non-down jackets and X-large in down to prevent compaction. With this jacket I definitely recommend going up one size for layering and a little added length in the torso. It is puffy but has a nice tailored cut that forms nicely to the body. It has baffels, DWR, wear reinforcements, and great bang for the buck value. It is my go to jacket for cold weather.

Warm, light, zip off hood, rugged, fit true to size, looks great also. Can not go wrong with this jacket.

Warm and compact with great hood
April 20, 2007

This jacket is very nice. It's warm, with no cold spots. I use it with my backpack, and the down on the back gets squeezed out to the sides, but its no problem getting the down back into place. The hood is awesome, and the fleece in the hand warmer pockets is really comfortable. Shopping at Altrec is very easy, even for a Norwegian.

This is what it is advertised - plus the repellant nature is an advantage though I did not trust it in downpour. It is down and warm. The cut is not athletic but is true to size. I got the medium and it is on the upper edge of medium so layering is easy. There is a bit of room - but there are adjustments that make it snug without layering. Sleeve length was true. Light and easily compressed to a small size. I was surprised at the small size of the compression sack provided. Used for a Rainier summit. There is an issue with the zipper in that it is hard to get it started with gloves. Not sure how they would fix that other than a bigger zipper - which might leak. It was not a big problem for me.

Excellent Cold Weather Jacket
September 17, 2011

I was looking for a cold weather jacket that was great quality, very warm and easy to pack. This jacket met all those criteria. It comes with a stuff sack which this jacket (I did not think would fit into it) actually did. It is compact and will pack nicely in my backpack. I have to agree with the only flaw in design I could come up with and that is: if you are long waisted, this jacket will appear short. For me, I am slightly long waisted and it just covers up my belt on my waist. If you like the ability to reach your pockets and not have to lift or open your jacket, then this is not a negative issue. Overall, I am very pleased and love this jacket!!!

This jacket is warm, overall it is kind of bulky but that is what you expect with a baffle coat.It is Very packable very strong built. All Mountain Hardwear products are the BEST.I would recommend this coat to anyone climbing to 7000 meters. Great coat!

very nice, warm, comfy jacket. i live in taos, nm. gets cold here. i am 5'5" woman. i ordered woman's mountain hardware down jacket with hood first. it was wimpy. flimsy plastic zipper, cuffs with no adjustment, just elastic, few pockets. stylish, but not useful for my ultra cold winter needs here. i looked at men's MH down jackets with hoods. they looked substantial and warm. so i ordered a small in men's size. it is perfect. little large, which is perfect for layering and roomy to move around in. the collar is super great. comes way up to my ears and the hood is good size and fits well. can be snugged down to keep cold air out. lots of good pockets. heavy duty zipper. i love the jacket! glad i crossed genders in the jacket world!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use

Another fantastic product from Mountain Hardwear
December 03, 2005

I bought this jacket for my husband and he loves it! It arrived just in time for our -20C cold snap this week. Keeps you very warm but is extremely lightweight. The only complaint he had was they should have put a soft fabric inner collar on it as the nylon gets rather cold against the skin if you aren't wearing a shirt with a neck or a scarf. Other than that it was a hit. Sizing was consistent with other Mountain Hardwear products we have bought. Definately worth the money.

Great jacket, just not as good as the 800 fill
February 18, 2008

This jacket is incredibly warm and confortable. Pockets are great and plentiful. Hood is excellent. I wouldn't call it a complaint, but the 650 fill is a bit bulkier then their 800 fill jacket, but I knew that comming in, and the 650 fill down is less the half the price. This jacket represents a better value, but for those where price is no object I'd go for the 800 fill.

awsome jacket
January 26, 2010

I wore my jacket for the first time two nights it is warm warm warm!!!!!! I waited for a cold evening to try it out the wind was gusting to 35 plus and the temp was 9 degrees the jacket was more than I expected..I had back surgery a while back and I need to walk at least two miles a day so I needed to find a warm jacket and this is it!!!!! This is my first Mountain Hardware garment and so far I'm impressed I'm 6'2" and weigh about 220 lbs so the XL fit great The quality is good Its light weight and has plenty adjustments to get the fit just right. I'm happy with this purchase. The customer service rep was very helpful also....yup I'm happy

Great jacket for the cold canadian weather. Extremely warm and very light for it's size.

Great storm coat
May 21, 2007

Just back from a Mount Shasta summit attempt. At 13,000 feet we got hammered by a whiteout snow storm and gale force winds. The SubZero SL kept hypothermia at bay. Although it got a little damp, the jacket kept its warmth well even lower on the mountain when the snow turned to rain. This jacket is heavier and bulkier than some, but it's a great coat when the weather turns really bad.

a long parka
November 08, 2011

If you like mountain hardwear sub zero down jacket, but seeking for a long parka. It is here, this chillwave parka can absolutely wrap your hips, and also warm. The only regret is this parka is a little heavy.

Pros: Great design

Light yet incredibly warm
August 17, 2010

This jacket can be compacted down into a small bag, weighs little to nothing and keeps you warm in some of the coldest climates. Great jacket

Excellent Jacket & Great Service
December 16, 2009

What a warm jacket. The Montana winters go well below zero and I got to use this jacket at -25 and I was nice and warm. I ordered an XL mainly to be able to layer up under the jacket but I am not so sure that extra layers are needed. It is lightweight and of excellent construction. I am glad I ordered the parka instead of the jacket because the weight of this parka is a non factor. This parka is well worth the money I paid. And lastly the service is outstanding!!!

Great jacket
January 01, 2007

I just bought this jacket and find that I love all the features that are included. It is definitely is much more puffy than the pictures reveal, and is crazy warm. Can't wait to head out this winter in it.

Super warm and comfortable...Size is true.
